Very Close to the train stations, approx 15 min walk. The rooms were o.k .... but the shared bathrooms were questionable. The bathroom originally indicated to us for use, had no lights, and the basin did not drain. The bathrooms also had a bit of musty smell.

Pluses: my private room was spacious and comfortable. Comfortable lounge and patios. Not far from train station. Minuses: Proximity to railway means exposure to screeching train wheels throughout the day. Had to complain about noisy people in the courtyard under my window after midnight. Shower door was broken and the water pressure was very poor.

So let's point out the pros: very close to be train station. The wifi was awesome and super fast. The price was low for the private rooms. Cons: The front desk people are not very nice or courteous and seemed bothered when we asked questions and never expect to be given change when you have a bill larger than $20euro.... More

We arrived latish on a Friday evening and the staff were pretty helpful on check in. The rooms were basic and maybe a bit dusty but fine and the doors locked. The bathrooms were old but clean enough. We were in an annex, not the main hostel but it was just across the road. Nothing to write home about but... More

The location is practical if you're moving by train, since it is within a walking distance to the train station. The room had a funny smell at the beginning, but it quickly went away. The owner is a very easy going dude, very helpful. But you get the impression that not a lot of effort is put into maintaining this... More

I was there in this hostel last year with my friends only for a night. The staff was not only unfriendly but also rude and acted as if the owned us. We were in a fix because we were short in cash and made the booking so we had to adjust to this unwelcoming and disgraceful behaviour. Don't even think... More

The location is great, just right next to the Santa Maria Novella train station (around 10 minutes walk if you're strolling around). It is also a very centralised location, with just 20 minutes walk to the Florence cathedral. When I saw the previous reviews I wasn't expecting much from this place but the thing that changed my mind was the... More

Beds are good and comfy Bathroom is fine and clean Staff is ok, compared to general customer satisfaction in Florence. Location is good, 10 minutes away from the main station SMN. No breakfast. Internet in some rooms is weak. If you don't expect much, it will be very good

I stayed for 2 nights as a solo traveller in a 4 bed dorm with a private bathroom. The beds were comfy and the rooms a decent size, I stayed in the main building. There were kitchen facilities and a vendor also. The staff were friendly and it was a good hostel for meeting new people! The a.c is controlled... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
