Once upon a time when the city of Florence was the Italian Capital, Hotel Regency served as a retreat to high government officials and ministers of the State. Today, the nineteenth century villa located in the heart of Florence is a five star property and a long time member of the prestigious "The Small Luxury Hotels". The hotel overlooks pristine Piazza D'Azeglio, framed by monasteries, ancient cloisters, famous museums, the Synagogue and, even more impressive, maintains the private villa-like air, ensuring travellers a memorable experience.

We had a wonderful time at the Hotel Regency in Florence. The hotel and rooms are very much as pictured – elegant and refined. Clear difference was the service, which was just exceptional.

The hotel is located on a quiet street, across from the Piazza D'Azeglio, a beautiful neighborhood park. The hotel is about a block from the Four Seasons Florence and a block from the Great Synagogue. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the Academia, Doumo and most of the other tourist attractions. That was a real positive for us as we felt we were in a local neighborhood and not in tourist central.

We changed our booking from another hotel to the Hotel Regency and were only able to book the superior sized rooms. Despite them being the smallest room category, we still found them to be quite comfortable. There was more than enough room to open up two large sized suitcases, plenty of space to walk around the beds and still there was a small side table with two chairs. While the bathrooms seem to have original fixtures (looked to be 50-75 years old), they are remarkedly well maintained. The marble is beautiful and it’s clear the hotel emphasizes maintenance and upkeep.

Breakfast is served each morning in a small sitting room or can be taken in the beautiful garden. The garden is quiet and gorgeous, but beware the birds are aggressive. The hotel staff is very active in trying to shoo away the birds, but it’s often with limited success. Instead, we preferred to eat inside most mornings. The food is a typical Italian continental breakfast (fruits, pastries, cured meats, cheeses, breads, juices) and then the additional scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon. Coffee, tea and juice are brought directly to the table. Everything is very high quality and tasty. I will note that over our 4 days at the hotel there wasn’t any change to the buffett, so I could see it getting boring after a while.

I would be remiss if I didn’t point out the excellent service we received at the hotel. The concierge (doubles as front desk) helped arrange tickets for art galleries, tours, restaurants and Manuel at breakfast was always very helpful.

Considerations:
There is no gym at the hotel. The hotel did offer use (I believe it was at a small nominal charge) at a nearby facility. Additionally, there is no pool at the hotel, which given the scorching heat, would have been welcome.

All in all, we would absolutely return to the hotel. It was a lovely location while totally accessible to any part of Florence. The service was impeccable and we had no complaints over our 4 days at the hotel.

This has to be the best luxury hotel to see Firenze from. Firstly it's location on a beautiful park square just outside the hot spots of the city is ideal. It also has its own courtyard garden which adds to the tranquilty. We initially booked for 2 nights as part of our 12 day cycle tour of Tuscany but loved the hotel and Firenze so much that we changed plans to stay 3 nights. If you have a bike it is an even better location as just beyond the square there is a cycleway direct to the central train station which we used to leave the city and for a day trip to Luca/Pisa. The hotel is relatively small but that means you really get excellent care from all the staff. We loved the way they greeted us as we entered the courtyad and took our bikes for storage and then brought them out ready for us after breakfast. The hotel may not think of themselves this way but for us this is the perfect hotel to visit and explore Firenze by bike. The room and breakfast were exceptional and just what we would expect.

The hotel is located outside the downtown city center, but an easy 15 minute walk to the Duomo Plaza. Located near nice restaurants. We enjoyed the location as it was outside the tourist locations, but all were accessible by walking. The breakfast buffet was outstanding with excellent choices. Overall the service was wonderful.

We had a first floor room and the bed was extremely comfortable. Room was nicely appointed, and most importantly, clean. We truly enjoyed our stay.

We had a big family reunion in Florence and chose the Regency for it. We thought a boutique hotel would feel more at home. The hotel is cute. But far from 5 star. Firstly, they have a serious issue with the doormen. They are just never there. U came with a stroller and our of the 3 days not once was there someone at the door to help me. Since there are several steps to enter the hotel, its quite complicated. The location is about 20-25 min walk from the center of Florence. The breakfast is not bad, for Italy. And the staff at breakfast was quite nice and friendly. But i would not stay the next time there.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback of your visit to the Hotel Regency. I am delighted to read your appreciation for our team members at breakfast, however we are sorry to hear that aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. We truly value all feedback as it allows us to see where we are going right and most importantly the areas that need improvement. Please, kindly note that as per a boutique hotel and as per Small Luxury hotel standards we do not provide a doorman service but our luggage porter and reception team is always glad to help all the family and all people requesting some help carrying heavy equipment anytime. Concerning the Hotel location, you could check it online while reserving your room. We are located just fifteen minutes walking distance from the Duomo, which is the main cathedral of the city. Looking forward to serving you better in the nearest future Warmest regards, Claudia Gallo General Manager

We have not checked out of the hotel yet but the initial negative experiences have made me write this review. We checked into a suite that has a bedroom and another room with a sofa bed, so meaning that at least 3-4 persons can stay in that suite. There were 2 TVs. On arrival both TVs were not working properly, I was surprised that the management did not check their TVs in their suites to ensure that everything functions properly. So I called for assistance, granted it was May 1 and a public holiday, so their technician was not working, so they sent up a porter. How can a porter know how to fix the 2 TVs? Certainly one cannot blame a porter. On the same evening, we asked for more coffee refills for the coffee machine because we like to drink a lot of coffee. We were given 5 refills. On May 2 after a day out, when we walked into the hotel, we would expect another apology for the malfunctioning TV, perhaps asked what they could do for us. Instead we got told that the coffee refills from yesterday were given FOC but from now onwards, they will charge us €3 for each coffee refill. It’s not the charge but this is supposedly a small luxury boutique hotel. We are staying in a suite that had malfunctioned TVs and they want to charge for a few extra coffee refills. This shows that Hotel Regency does not qualify to be a small luxury boutique hotel but more likely a 3* common tourist hotel.
Don’t expect small luxury hotel standards with small pleasant surprises. Instead Be prepared for unpleasant surprises if you are staying in this hotel.

This is an expensive but not luxury hotel. The rooms are old and floors in room feel cheaply done. The larger issue is the noise. We stayed 3 nights in 207 and on first and last night were woken by laundry and house keeping in smaller hours, 5:30 am on 1st night. I asked at reception and was told only time laundry could be delivered, received a Luke warm apology. On last night we were woken at 6:30 to housekeeping banging in press outside door and continuous use of service elevator, also outside door. It was outrageous. I feel bad for staff who were fun on our 3rd night. However I need to be honest and the noise and lack of sleep is not what you want on a holiday.

Dear Guest, I have to tell you that I was shocked to read your review. My Team and I are very sorry to read your unpleasant words about your experience at the Regency. Not a word about the problems experienced in your room during the stay. We should have moved you to another room or offered you a compensation if needed. You review is really unfair towards our daily commitment and work to satisfy our Guests. It would have been better for everyone to solve the problems at the beginning of your stay instead of slaughtering the Staff. Regards Claudia Gallo General Manager

I’m afraid we didn’t have a 5* experience here. The hotel is generally quite dated - but our room (which cost €800+) was filled with ants. They also have a mosquito problem in the garden. As we were all bitten alive when having drinks. They charge an additional €10 for avocado at breakfast. The very expensive Coca Cola I took from the minibar had a ‘peroni’ lid on it, which suggests it’s been rebottled somewhere.

The hotel is fine but it’s not 5*.

Dear Voyager53757892947, Thank you for sharing your opinion after your stay with us. We apologize if your room did not completely meet all your expectations, it is essential for us to receive Guest’s feedback in order to improve our services. We are sorry also about the ants issue, please note that the hotel is located in front of a big park and it is normal sometimes to find ants in the room, especially the one facing in front of the square like the Family Suite. For this issue we were able to remove from the room bill, the avocado toast charge and make a further discount for dinner. However, despite this, we really hope that you will consider returning to the Regency in the future, when we will do our very best to make amends and create some more meaningful and happier memories. I send you my best regards Claudia Gallo - General Manager

We had a very nice stay for 2 nights but as we paid 186 euros for a night in Tolomei which had all the comfort and more we could ask for the price for a room at Regency was quite a bit higher. Sure, room was good but it was rather small. The garden is nice but small too....Breakfast is nice but not that spectacular. The champagne is a nice touch but unless you are newly wed is not a thing you want to do in the morning. Staff is super attentive and all in all we had a nice stay but price is a bit heavy in comparison......

We stayed here for one week and we enjoyed it every day. First of all, all staff members were very friendly and professional, from management (Claudia), to the persons serving breakfast. Rooms are comfortable with very good beds and we had a large bathroom. We had every morning breakfast inside (very nice room), but it was also possible to enjoy it outside. Breakfast, by the way, is more than sufficient and you can choose a.o, fresh fruit, sandwiches, scrambled eggs, cakes, cheese, yogurt, et cetera. Hotel is max 15 minutes walk to the Duomo. So, if you like a small hotel, this is a very good option!

We stayed at the Hotel Regency for four days during our honeymoon. It was fabulous. We had a junior suite which was spacious with high ceilings, a large dressing area, and bathroom with whirlpool and water closet. The staff was kind and attentive. Breakfast was fantastic with lox, bacon, sausages, quiches, tarts, pretty much everything you could possibly want. We ate dinner at the hotel one night and it was delicious, albeit a bit expensive. The terrace is sublime. The only thing that I would recommend is they figure out a way to deal with the pigeons as it did make it hard to eat outside. The hotel is located in a quiet part of the town but a short walk from everything. We walked to the Duomo, San Spirito, the shopping district and didn't need a cab once. I would most definitely recommend this hotel and we look forward to staying there on our next trip to Florence.
