We came for a few days to see Florence. Great locations. 5 mins from the train station and 2 mins from the glorious Del Duomo! The hotel was clean and well kept. The owner and his son were very friendly and helpful! It also has a wonderful roof terrace for all guests where you can gaze upon the Cathedral up...

Location and staff were perfect. The room is not too big but more than enough for a few days, comfortable bed, very good A/C, bathroom, bed, Wi-Fi, fridge in the room for water/wine. Highly recommend.

Staying at The Balcony turned out to be one of the best things that happened to my mom and I while in Florence. You know what you are getting into since the hotel description and photos correspond to what it is in reality. Location is excellent, breakfast is decent and rooms are super clean but it was the staff that...

The room was great and confortable, with a very old-fashioned style. The best shower we had in Italy. Breakfast was great too, and the staff were very, very nice to us. Perfect location near the station and all the points of interest. They don't have an elevator but the stairs were short, so not a huge problem for us. We...

Quite enjoyable place for reasonable price with very friendly owners. As other travelers noted the place is situated in short walking distance from main station and main Florence historical sites. Only disadvantage of the room is one wall socket, so if you have more than one gadget, you’ll need adapter or hub with several nests.

Whilst holidaying in Tuscany we needed an overnight stay in Florence to give us time to really enjoy the city. We chose the Balcony Hotel for its ideal location within walking distance of the railway and the centre of Florence. Theoretically the hotel had everything we needed and the room was clean and the bed and linen were fresh and...

This is a small family-run hotel, run by a friendly couple (the wife is more fluent in English) and located about 5 minutes away from the Duomo. Candidly, this wasn’t our first choice – a neighbouring hotel where the rest of our family was boarded ran out of rooms, so we settled for this given its proximity and favourable reviews...

The hotel Balcony is unfortunately quite overrated on the internet, especially the breakfast :/ . The rooms are very small and just medium clean, so the price is not reasonable - maybe 60% of it makes the location. It was already quite cold in Italy and we just got a very old and not nice spread - the heater didn't...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
