Just spent 5 nights at the Hotel Balcony. It's 5 minutes walk from the Santa Maria Novella railway station and 10 minutes from the Pisa Airport bus stop. 3 minutes from the famous Duomo, 10 minutes from the Uffizi Gallery, 15 minutes from the Vecchio bridge. San Lorenzo church and street market are 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The...

It wouldn't be entirely fair to give Hotel Balcony a 5, since it is in a noisy part of town in an old building--but I almost did just the same. Hotel Balcony's founders found pretty much the ideal location for tourists (like us), who want to see the main sites in a comfortable, convenient location, on a budget. It's near...

The staff was friendly and helpful and the rooms were clean. They let you leave your bags there after checkout and offer breakfast and dinner. The hotel is near the train station and close to all of the major sites.

Nice stay in Hotel Balcony with a very good staff. The Hotel is clean and very well located, five minutes from Santa Maria Novella train station and five minute ago from the Duomo. If I come back to Firenze, it'll probably be there.

Booked this as it was meant to be nice and have a number of facilities including air conditioning. On arrival and check in, the mini bar was empty, the room has a kettle and 2 cups, no coffee, no tea, no milk, no sugar and apparently, once you get through the translation, the owners think that in March (when it's...

Hi. We have the air conditioned but is off in march because the heating system is on. I think all the hotels in florence are with the AC off in march. You was the only guest with this problem, for all the others guests was ok. Douring the night some people was with the jacket. My hotel is in the...

I had the best overnight stay in Florence in this hotel! We booked the small double room (I was with my sister). But the room was still adequate in size, and the bathroom was huge and clean. They have 2 water closets (one which you use for toileting, and one for just washing up). The bed and the pillows were...

Location and staff were perfect. The room is not too big but more than enough for a few days, comfortable bed, very good A/C, bathroom, bed, Wi-Fi, fridge in the room for water/wine. Highly recommend.

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
