We selected this hotel after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. Lovely, quiet hotel in a great location, we walked everywhere, to tourist locations, restaurants, museums and the train. Our room was small but beautiful looking out on the side street. It was very clean and comfortable with a desk, mini-bar, hair dryer, and make-up mirror. So well insulated were the...

We chose this hotel because of the great reviews on Tripadvisor and for it's close proximty to the train station. We walked from the train station to our hotel with lots of luggage with no problem. This is great hotel, ideally located on Piazza Santa Maria Novella and about 10 minutes walk from the Duomo and the other main city attractions. Staff were really friendly, hospitable and very helpful in all our requests. The room we stayed in was spacious very clean and very nicely decorated, with a view on Duomo. The price of the room...

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as in Florence for a wedding. What we liked Good location - just off centre from all the main sights so peaceful but everything within walking distance. Train station 5 minutes away. The train to and from Pisa is best forgotten - a dirty, hot and slow train. Decor - decor of hotel...

We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend at the start of August 2009. Despite the crowds and the heat Florence was lovely, and this hotel was close to the ideal place to stay. The location is excellent - it's on a lovely square and close enough to all the main sights without being on top of them (it's...

This hotel is a boutique hotel in the square behind a magnificent church and on the piazza. The location could not be better since it is a very short walk from the train, the Duomo and Santa Maria Novella Church. The rooms are beautiful and the bathrooms are marble. The hotel is elegant and clean. The staff is extremely helpful....

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
