We had a wonderful stay with Carmel and Pino at Hotel Il Bargelino when we visited with our family in January '08. We found carmel through tripadvisor, and it turns out that she grew up about 4 blocks from where we live in Boston! She happened to be in town visiting her parents that week, so we met up and...

After having read the reviews about this hotel, I had higher expectations and I must say after my stay at this hotel this weekend I was disappointed. I am VERY unclear about where the good reviews are coming from! I would say that I am a very reasonable person, widely travelled, having stayed at a range of accomodations from hostels...

My sister and I spent three nights at Il Bargellino. Carmel and Pino made us feel so welcome! Pino even gave me an umbrella which I used throughout our days in Firenze and later in Venice! The hotel was so comfortable, very comfy bed and pillows and a snuggly down comforter made us feel right at home! I highly recommend...

My husband and I spent three nights at Hotel Il Bargellino. Carmel's directions led us right to the door with an easy walk from the train station. Our room was very pleasant and furnished with interesting antiques. We had what must be largest bathroom in all of Europe. We walked to all the sights and found nice restaurants in the...

Staying in San Lorenzo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo’s lively merchants shout out from behind stalls with an array of products in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Florence. Different ethnic groups join together in the large outdoor market of San Lorenzo and in the Central Market, a vast multi-floored building. Visitors are bound to fall in love with this area and in particular, with its variety of food, especially those focusing on Florentine dishes as well as international selections. Nobody leaves San Lorenzo without a shopping bag in hand or with an empty stomach.
