The hotel and staff were excellent here, especially for the very reasonable price they charge. All staff were friendly and amenable and always happy to help with directions and recommendations. We took the Terravision coach from the airport at €10 return pp, then a short bus ride from the Santa Maria Novella railway station was €1.20 pp and took us...

If you are looking for a perfect but small hotel, close to downtown, I urge you to give the San Gallo Palace a try. We have never stayed in Florence before and we were looking for something that is reasonably priced, yet within walking distance of the old city. The room was large and clean with a recently upgraded bathroom....

Nice clean, quiet hotel with fairly large rooms.. AC works great, wifi was fast, and about a 10-15 walk to the Duomo / train station. The breakfast was good, typical European breakfast with pastries, fruit and meats. Expect a 15 euro cab ride for only a 5 min ride from the train station. Not really anything around the hotel for...

If you want to just sleepover then this hotel is ok. Unfortunately we stayed for four nights and didn't have a comfortable experience. This hotel is about 25 mins walk to the cathedral but at night you will have to careful returning back because of the homeless people sleeping by the parking lot which is unsafe. Also the bed is...

We stayed at San Gallo Palace hotel for three nights at the start of September. We found all the staff to be welcoming and helpful but Tanya from the restaurant made our stay particularly memorable. She was friendly and helped us with something to eat (we are vegetarian) at well past lunchtime when much of the menu was made up...

We stayed here for 4 days and loved this hotel! The rooms are large and spacious, the beds comfortable, the room had air con and wifi and a nice bathroom. The hotel is a little further out of the city but only a 15-20 min walk which was pleasant - we happily walked in and out of the city daily....

I stayed here in August with my partner and this was honestly one of the cheapest hotels I've stayed in during my Europe trip and one of the best! All the other european hotels I have stayed in dont provided you much for breakfast, abs generally much you pay extra. This hotel includes breakfast and you get a beautiful buffet;...

This hotel is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the centre of town, or 6 minutes from the fringe of the shopping - restaurant area. There is also a bus stop 100m away for the number 7 for Fiesole. Breakfast is simple with bacon, eggs, sausage plus an array of pastries and cold meats with cheese. We were happy...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
