Cosa Rovai is a basic bed and breakfast, a 10/15 minute walk from the train station and close to many areas of interest. My room was very old fashioned (in a nice, acceptable way) but clean and quite spacious. The one member of staff I met was friendly and helpful and breakfast (€7 extra) was basic and reasonably satisfactory. My room had a separate bathroom that was located alongside the reception. This was a bit of a nuisance but I knew about this when booking the room. Overall a basic B&B in a good location.

This is a very unique hotel. The location is great as very central and has lots of bars and restaurants nearby. It is very traditional building, which is very pretty but also means a lack of light and plugs. I had a good night sleep and it wasn't too noisy A negative is the outside bathroom. I was aware of this before I arrive but our room was next to reception and bathroom in entrance hallway which was quite uncomfortable. However for a few days it was fine.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights during August 2019. We were so happy with our visit! We walked from the train station upon arrival in Florence. The walk to the BB was about 15-20 min with luggage. It wasn’t too difficult but wasn’t easy either. Luckily we packed light and each only had carry on suitcase. The BB was quite easy to find. It is on the third floor (for US) so be aware if you overpack since there’s no elevator. The BB is lovely! We were greeted by one of the employees who was very kind and helpful-all the staff is bilingual. They provided us with everything we needed- a map of the city, WiFi, and any other questions we may have about our stay. We had the BB book the half day wine tour and was very happy with it. We stayed in the studio room so we had an external private bathroom. However we were aware of the external bathroom upon booking the room. So we were not surprised. The room was supplied with robes for us to wear when we needed to walk to the WC. The room was very lovely with a window overlooking the courtyard. There was plenty of space for our luggage. The room even had a sink in it! There is a wardrobe in the room with a safe and to hang items. The room was plenty big. When one visits Florence they are not spending too much time in the room except to sleep. So for us it was plenty spacious. The room did have an AC unit which worked fine. We were never hot in the room even for August! Please take advantage of the water fountain in the main room. We filled our reusable water bottle many times with it. I would highly recommend Casa Rovai! They even kept our luggage the day we checked out and helped arrange a taxi when we needed one. They also suggested a wonderful restaurant for Florentine steak! You cannot beat the location. A short walk to duomo and via de Benci with plenty of restaurants and nightlife.

First off I can say that the location of the hotel is amazing but thats the only nice thing about it. The rooms are ridiculously small, barely any room to walk or put any of your luggage. The bathroom is inconveniently outside the hotel room, so you have to walk in front of the reception just to go to the bathroom or take a shower. The worst thing about this place is there is zero peace and quiet. When on vacation you want to relax but nope not at Casa Rovai the room is located right next to the reception but it might as well be in the reception because you can hear every single word that is spoken, it's so annoying to be woken up every time a new guest arrives or is checking out. There was also an incident at 5:00am one morning a new guest arrived and to enter the hotel you must ring the buzzer so someone can buzz you in, the customer rang the buzzer for over ten minutes and proceeded to wake everyone up before being buzzed in. I will never come back here.

Response from Stefania B, Front Office Manager at Casa Rovai Guest House
Responded 17 Jun 2019
Dear Guest, We regret to read that your stay was not good at Casa Rovai. We will certainly take into account your complaints to improve our service. I would like to stress, however, that the rooms of our Guest House have different dimensions and that according to this the prices are very different. That only two rooms have a private external bathroom and this is amply highlighted in the description found on our site and is clearly repeated at the time of the proposal to be sure that our client is perfectly aware of what he buys and if the offer is not of his liking can refuse it. Finally about the incident, which we are very sorry about, it was an extraordinary event because a guest had forgotten the supplied keys and repeatedly rang the bell (not ten minutes as you say, but actually more than one time) without showing any respect for the other guests of the house. Although not our direct responsibility we apologized to all the guests, including you. We hope, however, to have other opportunities to host you and make you change your mind about staying at Casa Rovai.

One important thing to alarm any prospect tenant is about the height of the stairs. This is not for elderlies with heavy luggages. I am Asian and when the reviews said that the reception is on the 1st floor, I imagine it is on a 1st floor but reality is it is equivalent to my 2nd floor. A flight of very high stairs..Oh my! We were staying in Italy for 14 days and this is our 1st stop in Italy, Florence so you can imagine the amount of clothing I brought with me... It is in the outskirt of the town about 20 mins walk but it is not too far from all attractions. It is a good distance from everything that you should see in Florence city. Facilities are adequate but the breakfast can be more variety. It is everyday the same... so very boring! We stayed there for 10 days and we decided not to go with the breakfast for the last 2 days. You can do without the breakfast as you can get good breakfast very early around the place and nicer croissants and all. Rooms on the 2nd floor are new and I would think more comfortable than the old settings on the 1st floor. Toiletries were very basic but adequate enough. Staffs were very helpful but I am not comfortable asking them to help me with my heave luggages. No ironing facilities, no hot water for your drinks so very basic. There is a self-laundry service nearby but it only opens between 8am to 10pm. Be warned! I would be careful walking to and from the place but nothing bad happen while we were there. Can walk from the train station although it was tough as the road was from hard gravel - old time... bringing your luggage was hard. There is no proper luggage storage but we did leave our luggages under their care while we went somewhere else.

We had a great time here, the B&B is conveniently placed only 5 min away from the cathedral and has nice rooms and super friendly helpful staff! Anything can be arranged, they were kind enough to wait up for us since our flight arrived late at night and we needed to check in at a late time. Thank you ladies, you were most kind and the B&B was very nice! Would definitely stay here again. One little tip though: if you are a light sleeper, ask for a room not directly next to the reception (aka the first room on the left). You will probably be a bit kept up by people on the streets, near the reception or in the hallways. And there is a small fusebox on the outisde of the rooms that ticks. However inside the room It’s more like pounding which can get very annoying at night or early in the morning. (my boyfriend slept through it mostly but it gave me some trouble)

This is not a swank hotel, but reasonably priced apartments on a quiet street, in a great location, just steps away from everything. Stefania was a terrific host who helped us with taxi and car rental.

Our family stayed in Casa Rovai during a long weekend visit to Florence. The hotel is more B&B than traditional hotel although it has all the amenities one expects. The staff, which are not on site 24/7, are helpful and friendly. The building, dating to the 16th century, is modernized with air conditioning, decent speed WiFi, comfortable furniture and individual modern bathrooms. Casa Rovai, however lacks an elevator and guests should expect to climb stairs to the 2nd or 3rd floor. The building is also shared with private homes. The hotel is located just a few minutes walk from Il Duomo and is next door to a parking garage. Local shops, including grocery stores and a pharmacy, are also nearby. Our only complaint was the ambient noise from the next door restaurant- easily solved by earplugs (never travel without them).

Stayed there for five days and it was amazing. Our room was spacious with freascoes from the 16th century on the walls. Loved the istoric vibe, really boosts the overall experience while exploring the beautiful Florence. Everything is close, the Doumo is just 2-3 minutes away on foot. Nice restaurants in neighborhood and is just off the very busy cetral area so a good nights sleep is garanteed. will definitely return if in Florence again.

Response from Stefania B, Manager at Casa Rovai Guest House
Responded 28 Sept 2018
Dear Benjamin M, Thank you for your review! I am delighted to read you had a nice stay with us. We are indeed conveniently located two blocks away from the Doumo which is busy enough to find nice restaurants (which we are happy to book for you, or stay with us on a half board basis for an even better deal), shops and of course gelaterias besides the famous attractions, still far enough from the busy streets to experience the authentic Florentine life as well. I hope to have you back with us again soon. Thank you and best regards, Stefania

I hate to be the only one writing a less than stellar review but after two nights of being locked out of the building because the key doesn't work and has to be 'fiddled' about to get us in, I was disappointed. There are also at least two flights of stairs without an elevator so not recommended for anyone with restricted mobility. The room was spacious, clean with a great bed and shower. The location is also excellent. The garage is ridiculously expensive so I would recommend that you park outside of the city in a cheaper/free option if possible. We paid 30Euros per night and did not use the car around florence at all. We didn't try the breakfast, and there was no receptionist to check us out when we left in the morning. This is probably best for a student or traveller not interested in frills or any additions. But they really need to fix the key issue.

Response from Stefania B, Manager at Casa Rovai Guest House
Responded 28 Sept 2018
Dear SuzeeoutoftheCity201, Thank you for your review. I am sorry to read you were not completely satisfied with your stay at Casa Rovai. We are indeed experiencing issues with the lock at the main gate, it unfortunately takes a little more time than usual as it is a special lock, we are on it to sort the problem out. We consider ourselves a suitable B&B for couples of all ages and families as well. We are a small bed and breakfast, who offer a lot of assistance to tailor the best holiday for its guests. We do encourage everyone to contact us prior to their arrival with all their requests so we can save you the hassle of making reservations and looking up activities in Florence and Tuscany. We are located on the first floor, unfortunately there is no lift, therefore it is indeed not the most suitable accommodation for people with mobility issues. Parking and using a car in general is quite a challenge in Florence. I personally recommend to use public transport and walk around the city as everything is within walking distance from us. I am glad that otherwise you had a nice stay with us, our breakfast is a great way to start the day, I hope there is a next time for you at Casa Rovai to try our homemade cake and croissant webserve at breakfast. Thank you and best regards, Stefania
