Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A small piece of paradise. Absolutely stunning surroundings with biodynamic olives and wines, a wonderful view of Lucca and Monte Serra, and a beautiful old hacienda. And a very warm welcome from the hosts.

We had originally thought about going to Montepulciano but stumbled across this hidden gem just outside of Lucca. Incredibly reasonable on pricing and got to meet Giuseppe who has pioneered new techniques in getting more than just organic wines. His biodynamic wines are full of heritage and flavour and tell a tale as interesting as Giuseppe himself as he shares his home with you. Everything was superb and standout. We’ll never forget this and can’t recommend highly enough.

What a delightful find, I am so glad we booked this and I already know we will return! The views of the vineyards, olive groves and mountains is exquisite. We stayed in Il Timo, a spacious ground floor apartment with high ceilings and large spacious rooms. The villa itself is very grand and is a delightful place to breakfast which we did every other morning. The family is friendly and welcoming, Giuseppe and Giovanna are good hosts, and Maria the daughter, is as passionate about wines as Giuseppe. This is a family that clearly loves what they do, food, wine and hospitality. We enjoyed eating out, often for lunch and then cooking ourselves in the evening or having something light. The facilities are all there if you like cooking. The apartment had a selection of their organic wines available, their own olive oil and their version of limoncello. We tried everything! It is very special to drink the wine that has been so carefully grown and produced on the very land that we were walking on! Lucca is a great city to visit as is nearby Pisa. We loved the peacefulness of Fabbrica di San Martino, we certainly made the most of our stay. It was more than a base, for us it was the essence of our holiday. Many thanks Satty

We stayed for three nights in a one bedroom apartment above the winery. The apartment was located in the old farmers quarters and was like stepping back in time. Breakfast was served every morning on the front terrace of the main Villa with views out across the vineyards and we were lucky enough to have a washing machine in our bathroom which came in very handy. The pool area was a lovely spot to relax under the Tuscan sun after a day out exploring. It is only a short drive to Lucca and not far to Florence and to Forte dei Marmi on the coast. Giovanna and her daughter Maria were very welcoming and helpful hosts, both grew up in this gorgeous home. The Hotel Fabbrica di San Martino is everything I had hoped for in a Villa in Tuscany and I would love to stay here again. One word of caution our Satellite Navigation in our car did not recognise the Villa's name but we had been supplied with coordinates that guided us there. On our first night we went into Lucca for dinner and on returning we went to previous destinations in the Sat Nav but found out that it does not remember coordinates only names. After a moment of panic we remembered we had an email we could access on our phone to get the coordinates. We had very stupidly left all the information Maria had given us back on the kitchen table in our apartment including a number to call if we needed help. We can highly recommend staying here you won't be disappointed.

We can’t recommend this stay more highly. Great location only a short drive from Lucca. The accommodation is spacious, private, clean and full of rustic charm. The breakfast was delicious and served with an awesome view of the Tuscan valley. The family who run the hotel are welcoming and very very helpful. They did everything we could have asked for and more. We are a family of four (children aged 3 and 5) and the accommodation was perfect and it comes with the most incredible pool. A great find, we’d recommend it to everyone.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and I really don't think words can describe how wonderful it was! We were staying in a suite on the top floor of the villa which dates back to 1735 and we felt like we were staying in a stately home, the rooms were well equipped and with modern facilities including air con and wifi but were full of gorgeous antique furniture, the bed was so big and comfortable we slept like babies! The view from the property over Lucca and the surrounding hills was absolutely stunning and the breakfast that was laid out for us every morning was an absolute treat. Guiseppe and Giovanna and their daughter Maria were the most welcoming and kind hosts we came across on our 14 day road trip especially when our car broke down and we had to leave it there. We really can't thank you enough for helping us to continue with our holiday. We will be back!

We stayed for three nights while visiting Lucca and could not have been more pleased. It is about a ten minute drive to Lucca, and it sits on a hill over looking the countryside above Lucca. It was build in 1735 and has had five generations of family members living there and tending to the property. The guest quarters are very large and include a bedroom, bath, and living room/kitchen. The owners are very friendly, speak excellent English, and provide a wonderful breakfast. It is very quiet at night, and the owners also operate a winery which provides very nice wines to sample. We highly recommend this property for a few days or much longer if you are traveling to Lucca.

What a beautiful and quiet place in the hills near Lucca!!! This beautiful old villa is full of original furniture and antiques and looks stunning. But the rooms have modern amenities such as an airconditioning, which was much needed during this warm Tuscan summer. Breakfast on the terras out front is superb, and my favorite is the home made fruit juice with fresh herbs. The host and hostess are wonderful people who take time to answer your questions, give you great suggestions on things to see and restaurants to choose. We loved our stay and highly recommend the place to others!

Oh my goodness, this is an amazing place! We arrived after a family wedding at lake Como and a night in Florence so we were ready for some peace and quiet and we certainly got it here. We had apartment 2 which was spacious, clean with a very comfortable bed. We were impressed with the modern shower in such an old property. The owners are very welcoming. The breakfast served on the terrace of the main house was a highlight, lovely fresh produce and great coffee. We spent a lot of time by the pool which is well equipped with more than enough sun beds, we had planned to visit Pisa but couldn't tear ourselves away from the idyllic setting! We did visit Lucca where we hired bikes and pedalled around the walled city but soon scuttled back in the afternoon not wanting to be away for too long!! Thank you, we will return!

We arrived very late, but the owners' son had waited for us. The fridge in the apartment had been filled with food, a bottle of wine was on the table --- it can't get much better. About 20 minutes away from Lucca in a wonderful Tuscany setting. The breakfast on the veranda is one of a kind.
