In Tuscany, 1 Km from Siena immersed in an uncontaminated countryside you find a XIV century Carthusian monastery, La Certosa di Maggiano turned into a Relais et Chateaux Hotel in 1978. An enchanting place, a light and natural luxury masterfully interpreted by the famous architect and interior designer, Renzo Mongiardino. A clear architecture with interiors rich in history dressed with impalpable silks and ornamental paintings & skillfully integrated within the natural and cultural environment. In line with this life born for silence and prayer, la Certosa di Maggiano offers today a set of services and activities aimed to improve your overall state of physical and spiritual wellness. A state of mind so well interpreted by the restaurant "Il Canto" and its Chef Paolo Lopriore, whose cuisine is another multi-sensorial journey which perfectly match our quest for life style, beauty & nature.

La Certosa Di Maggiano was the most spectacular step back in history with all the modern luxuries. Michelle was an incredible wealth of knowledge and helped us with our Tuscan trip so much from before we arrived with reservations in Siena to when we arrived with car issues. The resort is truly magnificent with every detail in absolute perfection. We loved just walking around visiting all the incredibly decorated rooms and the views…..ahhhhh….the views! Everything was so perfect, they even have a resident golden retriever. We long to go back to Italy and we will certainly be retuning.

OMG. This hotel was spectacular to us, with the history from the 13th century to the expansive suites and country setting very near downtown Siena. We loved the historical charm of the place, the furnishings, the siderooms (library, sitting area, bar), and the breakfast room with an amazing open fireplace. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly and we must say that Christiano makes the best Negroni we have ever tasted.

Going with the ancient history, there is no elevator so remember that when booking a room. But the staff will carry your bags for you. The front door, which is right on the street was not obvious as it was closed and looked like all the other closed small doors in stone walls in Siena, but charming as it led to a courtyard and another door into reception. Parking for cars was across the narrow street.

We only had one night, wished we had more, enjoyed a wonderful evening dinner, and an amazing complimentary breakfast.

Treat yourself and have a drink in the bar or sitting room, and I would recommend a Negroni.

We had an amazing week in this gorgeous hotel outside Siena. The location is perfect - you can walk into the centre in about half an hour or less than ten minutes in the car. The communal areas and the bedrooms have been beautifully decorated and furnished to a high quality. The breakfast was delicious and the dinner tasting menu was a culinary treat. The staff are excellent, always helpful, warm and relaxed - in particular Christiano and Ovid made our stay very comfortable. We absolutely loved it and would go back in a heartbeat.

Licated just outside Siena - but not walking distance, this place is very much an expensive has-been – it has long ago been surpassed by better renovated places. There are NO elevators so if you are on the 2nd floor make sure you don’t forget anything. There are weeds and rubbish everywhere, even in the courtyard. Breakfast is an adventure and coffee or some of what you order may turn up when you have finished everything else.
Restaurant OK but not special.

We stayed for a week and it was part of our honeymoon journey true Italy. This was the best place we went to! The hotel was beautifully equipped, the garden was so green and big. You hear the birds singing when you wake up, then there is a beautiful breakfast with a fireplace (so nice) and you can sit under the wistaria eating the fresh products of the breakfast. When you are done with chilling, the city is a few steps away. The location is really good, you can discover Siena and then relax by the pool when you are tired and satisfied of the beautiful city. It's not goodbye, but arrivederci!

We stayed here for 3 nights and were welcomed in a friendly and helpful manner.
Our interconnecting room was old, but clean and well looked after. Not super spacious but ok for 3 nights. I was disappointed that my kids had fold out beds but no mattress just lounge cushions whichl continually kept slipping in the night so they were sinking in whilst sleeping.

Staff were very accommodating and helpful. They loved to have a chat and be of service although sometimes it was a bit like an interrogation and I just wanted to relax.

The pool and outdoor pace was divine my kids loved it.
I think more could be done with the square outside the restaurant area. Most of the rooms wake up and walk out to this space and there is nothing, just wasted space.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner were lovely, over priced though and most of the cups I was given always had an eggy smell about them. I had to request a new cup about 4 times.

Music is played in the evenings which kept my children up.

Free Parking although whole experience was overpriced. It had a beautiful feel about it and I enjoyed my stay but after paying for accommodation then receiving the final bill I was shocked at how much it had cost us as a family of 5.

Service doesn’t come better and our whole family said the same making this a wonderful place to stay in Tuscany. Incredible recommendations for winery lunches and visits and dinners and even at breakfast- one more cappuccino or coffee with a spoonful of hot chocolate was always greeted with a warm smile and the buffet was excellent. Even with all the new covid rules it felt the most welcoming place. The lunches were brilliant and our two deluxe rooms perfect. Recommend hiring the electric bikes which are great models. We drove into sienna most nights ( a few minutes away) and came back for drinks under the magically lit trees to listen to music. We loved our stay here and thank you Michelle for your tireless energy it is fantastic to have such a team looking after you.

I spent a few days in this place, so close to Siena city center, at the end of 2019. I read older reviews and I have to say that new ownership has done this place right. Our room was very spacious, clean and very bright. We had a big bathroom with a hydromassage shower and any other facilities were in.
There are a lot of common areas where you can spend time alone reading a book or with other guests. The food was simple but very nice (like everywhere in Tuscany)
As I say Siena is very very close to the Certosa, but it seems like you are living in the countryside. The hotel is surrounded by olive trees and vineyard. A fantastic landscape.
I hope I will be able to come back in spring or summer to have the opportunity to enjoy
the swimming pool.
The owner is very friendly and she can help with your daily activities

While one expects the location and facilities to be remarkable in this stunning 14th century converted monastery, what really makes a stay a Certosa Di Maggiano exceptional is the customer service. The team are warm, friendly and accommodating. From providing umbrellas in the rain to upgrading our room at no extra charge to ensure we all had a good night sleep despite traveling with our 5 month old baby 🙂, the team could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable. It would also be remiss if I didn’t mention the food. The restaurant is definitely worth visiting in its own right! Some of the best food we have had in Italy!

This is a 10/10 hotel ! And this is coming from one of the fussiest and boujee women around.

From arriving to having our luggage taken to the room, both Michelle and Cristiano made us feel at home.

The hotel grounds were immaculate and breathtaking. It was a magical experience.

The bed was the most comfiest I’ve had in hotels. The extra care taken to ask before arriving if mum and I would like separate linen was above and beyond.

The room was large and spacious. The linen soft and lush. The bathroom accecories such as bath robe, slippers and amazing soap was a lovely touch.

Breakfast was a dream - hot log fire in the restaurant and ample food choices for both plant based and non.

Daniel in the restaurant took care of mum when she was cold from sight seeing and whisked her up a “real” hot chocolate.

It
Would be a shame if you visited Siena and didn’t stay in this hotel

10/10

The easiest way to reach our hotel is by car, so that you are welcome to move freely. However there is a bus every hour, and a taxi service to accomodate your every need. The time it would take to walk to the heart of the city is a lovely 25 minute stroll.
