We (6 of us) stayed in a villa at Montechiaro for a week, and it could not have been better. The villa was built in the late 1700s and besides some necessary upgrades, it stayed true to its old world charm. The addition of a pool, overlooking a grand view of the countryside and Montechiaro's own vineyards was absolutely perfect. Alessandro was very kind and gave us a short tour of his tasting room. If you have a a large (or even small) group. The area is perfectly placed for easy access to Siena, and only 45 mins to an hour from Florence. This was the perfect place to spend a week in Tuscany.
Our stay at Montechiaro was more perfect than we had hoped for. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. The villa was beautiful and comfortable with so much room. The pool was magnificent. The property was expansive and picturesque. We had a historic tour of the winery and a wine tasting: the Chianti was delicious. Alessandro made dinner one night after our daughter’s wedding and the food, table and setting were magical. We all agreed that this was a one of a kind experience.
My wife and I came here on a tour,we were the only Australians on the 2 buses everybody else were Americans who were on the same criuise ship as us and we're great company.I mention this because my wife and I didn't think the wine was that great but the Americans loved it and bought tons of it.Having said that the hosts were great and very informative.
Our week at Montechiaro, hosted by Alessandro was a perfect taste of life in Tuscany. As a wine tasting group, we found it to be a perfect central location for day trips to Chianti, Florence, Montalcino, Montepulciano, San Gimignano, etc., plus, the wonderful city of Siena is only 10-15 minutes away. The accommodations are very nice and if there is anything else you need, Alessandro and his team will do all they can to make it happen. One thing i would HIGHLY recommend - let Alessandro prepare a meal for you at the Villa. You can eat on the terrace watching the sun set over the Tuscan hills and the city of Siena while enjoying a fantastic farm-to-table meal prepared by Alessandro and his assistant Lucia, washed down by some of Alessandro's own delicious wines. We had many great days in Tuscany, but for most of the group, this was the highlight of our trip. If you want to experience what it is like to be "Under the Tuscan Sun." Montechiaro fits the bill.…
Montechiaro Wine Estate is a lovely working wine estate on a hilltop overlooking the Tuscan countryside and Siena. We (three couples) stayed in the villa with a 13th Century tower. The decor was rustic (as one might expect) but well furnished and clean. The patio had a covered area as well as open-air. At night the Milky Way looked like a storm cloud and shooting stars were plentiful. We had a large private pool and a lawn that extended for several yards toward the valley. From the end of the yard was a magnificent view of Tuscany with it's beautiful villas strewn along the hilltops. Sunsets from there were spectacular. We had opted to have a welcome tray upon arrival, and it was excellent, especially the lemon tart. Also, one evening we had food catered by the estate who had Signora Beppina, a very sweet lady who lived next door, to prepare dinner from fresh ingredients including herbs and vegetables from her own garden. All six of us agreed that we had never (NEVER) tasted better lasagna. I would be tempted to return just to have it again. We had wine from the estate and the host/vintner Alessandro Griciolli. The Chianti was superb, You should know that this is not a standard hotel. Don't expect little shampoos and such. There is a supermarket just a few kilometers away where you can get food and toiletries should you need them, and there are some nice restaurants within a couple of kilometers but not walking distance. This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.…
We were lucky enough to spend 3 nights at this lovely estate and enjoyed our time in this stunning region. The view from our balcony was breathtaking. Alessandro was a gracious host who made us feel very welcomed. He invited us to join his private wine tasting and it was an exceptional experience and would highly recommend this experience. The organic wines in our opinion are the best in the region by far. One thing to point out - the bedrooms and villas aren't air conditioned and in June/July the weather is stifling hot and humid which makes sleeping almost unbearable. The small fans don't do much to add relief but apart from this, our stay was what we expected.
We had a faboulous dinner and tasting experience with Alessandro and Clarisse, tasting all their wonderful wines. Would absolutely recommend this estate for wines and lovely environment. They also have villas with pools for rent and does events such as weddings in this wonderful setting!
We rented a villa - La Cappanina - complete with a lovely private pool and gardens for one month mid-May to mid-June at Montechiaro, a beautiful family Chianti estate very convenient to Siena (10 km). We had various family members coming and going, and we all had a wonderful time. I will rent again next year. The views from the estate of the valley, the Chianti hills, and Siena in the distance are spectacular. Alessandro and his family members and staff are kind, supportive, great to work with. The estate wines are strongly recommended. Alessandro does special informative wine tours and tastings at the estate which is a 'must' experience. If you stay, be sure to order Beppina's delicious 'take-away' traditional Tuscan meals. This is a country villa experience - a rental car is a must for access to the many touring and sight opportunities, and for grocery shopping, dining out, and other activities. …
My self, my husband, my mother and aunt all stayed at the Montechiaro Estates in September and had the best time. The villa we rented was lovely and very big for the 4 of us. We order ahead of time a basked filled with fresh fruits and vegetables from their estate, which also had local meats, cheese and their wine - spectacular, we were so happy we order it. Montechiaro was very easy to drive to and a great homebase for our travelling around Tuscany. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay near Siena. We did the wine tour with Alessandro, and it far surpassed our expectations. The tour started with a quick walk around the property, getting to see their lovely estate. Alessandro walked us through his wine making process and his passion for wine really made the tour. Not to mention the 4 wines we tasted were all truly delicious - I only wish we were able to bring more bottles home to Canada with us!…
We've been visiting Montechiaro for 2 years now to plan our wedding that just took place. Thanks to Chiara and Alessandro our wedding was better than we could ever have imagined. Montechiaro is too beautiful to describe, it is beter than any picture we have seen. Our guests are still in awe of this place! Go there and be amazed by this gem!
