Montechiaro Estate is located 10 km from Siena. It lies on 160 Ha of land, 10 of which are vineyards surrounded by 2000 olive trees. On the edge of a small 17th century village centered around the Griccioli family Villa, all the farmhouses have been lovingly restored in a simple, authentic style. These houses were renovated and furnished with special care to preserve the wooden beamed ceilings and tiled floors. The views are outstanding, particularly of Siena in the distance and of the Chianti rolling hills with vineyards and olive groves.Guests enjoy use of their own private pool in the garden, while tennis, horse riding and mountain bike hire are available nearby. Home-produced organic wine and olive oil can be purchased from the Cantinetta di Monteriggioni in the Monteriggioni Castle and at the main Montechiaro estate, were Alessandro, wine producer and sommelier, will let you experience his "Montechiaro wine experience", sharing his wine and passions in a unforgettable winery tour and tasting. Available also for external clients who want to discover organic Chianti wines, extra-virgin Tuscan olive oil and other genuine local produces.

We are currently spending 2 weeks in this beautiful part of the world. We are staying at four bedroom, three bath house which is administered by the Griccioli family. We can see astounding views of the Tuscany countryside. The weather at this time of the year is very nice.

We had a large party and stayed at the Torre property for our visit to Siena. The location was wonderful. It was nice to have a quiet property with a cool pool to dip into, after spending a day sightseeing in Tuscany.

The staff was friendly and very helpful.

The highlight of our stay was a photo session with Alessandro and then a catered dinner at the property. Alessandro was very friendly and charming. The meal was sublime. Our best meal on our stay in Italy, which lasted over two weeks.

A few friends and I had planned a trip to Siena on the occasion of a wedding. Arriving to the Montechiato Estate was such a pleasant surprise. Within an extremely easy reach from Florence we all gathered in a place where time seems to have stopped centuries back. No rush here. Great food, oil and wine (produced on site!). Lovely cellar and walks. Amazing views and sunset, elegant orchid garden and spectacular "limonaia", tennis court (with private tennis coach) and swimming pool. All that just 10 minutes from Siena and 2 hours from Milan and Rome. We will be certainly going back soon!

Lovely new rooms with an aristocratic understated twist and postcard-like views over the rolling hills of Chianti. Lovely new bathroom with top quality appliances, which we would have not expected from a country retreat. Loved also the HUGE parklands and olive groves, and the walks that were suggested to us. Soo much better than our Siena hotel and so close to town! Even internet was working perfectly from our bedroom suite. We felt like in an Italian movie meeting with some members of the family to hear stories... They treated us as their own family guests. Very helpful staff accommodating all our needs: they booked for us the two remaining seats on their new Wine and Pairing tour course at the Monteriggioni castle (best wine course I have ever attended) followed by a visit to the family Castelglion Ginibaldi which was the icing on the cake together with Monte Chiaro organic wines. Not to be missed. Great restaurant recommendations too. Can't wait to go back with friends for a full week next autumn. Make sure you book at least three nights to make the most of the grounds and the surrounding areas, and breath in its peace. Val d'Orcia, Bagno Vignoni thermae and Crete senese all offered mesmerising sceneries at less than 15-30 minute drive. We stayed four nights and we wished we could have stayed for longer.

Just got back from a great family holiday at La Capannina. A really beautiful spot in the hills around Siena, and the Griccioli family were extremely welcoming, friendly and did all they could to make sure our stay was as enjoyable as possible. Only regret is that we were a little too early in the season for the swimming pool. Next time! We particularly enjoyed playing tennis in the cool of the evening with stunning views of Siena in the distance. Fabulous.

In May 2011 I spent a magical week in one of the MonteChiaro Vacation Villas. I was greeted by the Griccioli brothers - Alesssandro and Pietro -- big smiles -- a bottle of wine -- a Villa on the hillside overlooking the MonteChiaro Vineyards and Olive Groves -- and a view of Siena in the foreground! Their sensitivity to my "first dream trip" to Italy elicited many ideas of ways to spend my holiday! Their family history from the 1300's was fascinating -- family crest - family estate - castle nearby!! -- Their grandfather who brought mastercard to the Bank of Italy -- real estate holdings/knowledge -- were a fascinating back drop to help me understand the "business community" in Italy! As a technology professional -- I was quite imipressed with the sophistication of their global technical "connection" which enhances their "community and brings the world to their doorsteps" - interesting visitors from near and far -- to enhance my over-all experience. I look forward to returning to the MonteChiaro Villas again -- and "reconnecting" with the Griccioli family -- who EXCEL in hospitality "customized" to their guests needs!!~
Thank you Alesssandro and Pietro

We rented a villa - La Cappanina - complete with a lovely private pool and gardens for one month mid-May to mid-June at Montechiaro, a beautiful family Chianti estate very convenient to Siena (10 km). We had various family members coming and going, and we all had a wonderful time. I will rent again next year. The views from the estate of the valley, the Chianti hills, and Siena in the distance are spectacular. Alessandro and his family members and staff are kind, supportive, great to work with. The estate wines are strongly recommended. Alessandro does special informative wine tours and tastings at the estate which is a 'must' experience. If you stay, be sure to order Beppina's delicious 'take-away' traditional Tuscan meals. This is a country villa experience - a rental car is a must for access to the many touring and sight opportunities, and for grocery shopping, dining out, and other activities.

We've been visiting Montechiaro for 2 years now to plan our wedding that just took place. Thanks to Chiara and Alessandro our wedding was better than we could ever have imagined. Montechiaro is too beautiful to describe, it is beter than any picture we have seen. Our guests are still in awe of this place! Go there and be amazed by this gem!

We enjoyed three nights at La Campana. The view was fabulous! Rooms comfortable each with a full bath. We were with friends from the Netherlands who spoke some Italian and more German so they were able to communicate with Eugenia. Alessandro treated us to a grand organic wine tasting - simply the highlight.
We explored Siena and the Chianti country side. Would have appreciated detailed maps to show us restaurants and wineries. You are pretty secluded!

Well, if anyone ever wants to fall in love with Tuscany then just head right to the Montechiaro Estates. The views of the valley are exquisite. The food is magnificent. The Griccioli family is elegant and kind, and the wine! Have I yet mentioned the wine? Superb. In fact, our whole group already started placing orders. I just cannot imagine any more beautiful spot to spend a few days soaking in the Italian sunshine while inhaling the sweet smell of lemon blossoms. I want to go back, NOW!

Dear Ian, we are just 12-15 minutes from Siena and do offer organic tasting lunches or dinners from EUR49pp including generous tasting of 4 of our organic Chianti wines. You can reach us by cab from Siena or the Siena train station for some EUR16-18. We also have two fantastic organic restaurants nearby: one offers mouth-watering organic Chianina beef stakes and is at 450m from us, the other is at less than 1.5 miles across the lovely Tuscan rolling hills and has a varied menu, excellent also for vegetarians! We normally send a full list of recommended restaurants upon booking. Please do not hesitate to contact us directly from our website Terre della Grigia should you have any additional question or request. We look forward to hopefully welcoming you. Warm regards, Ale

We are at an easy 16 minute drive from the Siena train station (5.8 miles). A taxi ride from and to the train station should cost no more than EUR18-20 as of 2015. You can easily get a taxis from the taxi rank in front of the station. We would also be delighted to arrange a private pick-up for you. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have any additional question or request. We look forward to hopefully sharing our beautiful peace soon. Warm regards

"Our barn was surrounded by the rolling hills and we could also see Siena's lit-up towers at the distance, so would strongly recommend asking for it. On our estate tour, we passed by a very charming medieval viewpoint which we were told can accommodate guests. From the top of the new sangiovesi vineyard a third cottage stands out. They all seemed lovely!"
