From the first to the last moment I throughly enjoyed my stay. The room (405) was great (location, bed, shower...) and the view is simply breathtaking. Can we talk about the breakfast? That alone is worth the stay. And if you are lucky enough to have some extra time, a drink on the terrace next to the Koi pool is mandatory. I'll be back!

Location and Access: Large modern hotel in a quiet, prosperous residential neighborhood that is an easy, safe walk across the Kornhaus bridge into the center of Bern’s beautiful historic area. Bern looks like a postcard from the Middle Ages so the modernity of the hotel is a nice contrast to that.

Quiet Level: Very quiet neighborhood and hotel.

Distances: The main Bern train station (which looks like a shopping mall rather than a train station) is about 20 minutes away by foot (easy walk but probably not if carrying luggage) or 5 minutes by taxi or city tram (stops right outside the hotel door).

Room: Mine was large, airy, and sunny with views to the Alps 80 miles away. The room décor is Swiss minimalist in neutral tones (which I prefer). Very comfortable bed, shower (plenty of hot water), and effective air cooling system. If the room ever feels stuffy, ask reception for a fan and that should solve the issue.

Breakfast: Good but expensive and I couldn’t identify alternatives right nearby.

Dinner: The hotel restaurant is good but the menu is oddly limited to 2-3 main course selections with no a la carte options that I could see.

Service: Professional and courteous. I would stay here again!

Minus:
Difficult getting more tea to our room when housekeeping didn't leave enough. Also a big issue I really only see at upscale hotels is the soap issue. Housekeeping not replacing empty soap bottles, so when you get to the room you have to ask for more every time, which got a little annoying after a long day. Ordered room service, wanted the receipt sent to my email when ordering from the tablet, never got it.

Plus:
I've heard about the Swiss hospitality and you can really feel it at this hotel. One of the best experiences I've ever had. At check-in we were offered an upgrade and I asked the lady what the difference was so she actually showed me the original room vs the upgraded one. Had to change duvet, from double to two single, service came fast and did a good job. Best breakfast during our Europe 2022 trip (but still a long way to Norwegian standard breakfast buffets in this class). Very friendly, didn't feel stiff when talking to staff. Very clean, nice design (better than the pictures), nice terrace and view. High-tech room, nice lighting in room, great outdoor spaces, nice view from the top floor. Tea and coffee making facilities, minibar, bathrobe and slippers. Room service was nice when they came, the best beef we've ever tasted, nice desserts too. Got a free ticket to public transport thru an app, free ticket to the casino and two free drinks. And last, the bed. The bed was heaven for both of us, it was like sleeping on a cloud. When I come back to Bern one day i hope the soap and tea issues are solved.

The hotel was recently renovated. We had a room with a balcony on the third floor with a partial view of the city. The room was perfect with comfy pillows. Parking for 26 fr per night is acceptable compared to others who can charge up to 50 francs. A smoked glass separates the bathroom and toilet from the room so you can still pretty see what’s your room partner doing in there, strange concept that is now fashionable in some other newer hotels. At least one can close a curtain which allows full privacy. The rooms are accessible through an inside gallery on every floor facing the inner closed off patio of the hotel. Our room was above the entrance to the Asian buffet restaurant on the ground floor patio and as a consequence the fumes of the Asian kitchen filled our room that smelled terribly in the evening. It’s like we were in the kitchen. Opening the windows didn’t help because it created a draft which amplifies the smell in the room. Once the restaurant closed they started to play some
music in that area and we could hear the music in our room. In the morning, woken up at 7am with a strong coffee smell from the buffet breakfast. When we left the hotel room around 11.30 am the Asian food smell started again. Compared to other hotels that we stayed in recently, this place does not respect the COVID social distancing rules at breakfast. The buffet is in a narrow corridor and there were too many people in there entering and leaving the narrow area from all sides. Also, tables in the breakfast room were too close to each other which left us with an insecure feeling. Small kids were running around the place but that’s a matter of parents’ education although staff should have intervened in my view.

The newly opened and renovated Swissôtel Kursaal in Bern is absolutely amazing! The rooms are spacious and neatly decorated with very comfortable beds, linens, towels, shower, seating area. It's nice that you can open the windows where we had a view over the city, magical! The staff is very professional, the Italian restaurant was great, and breakfast had a large selection of items.
The location of the hotel is perfect, only a few minutes walking from the city center yet in a quiet and peaceful area.

We had a wonderful stay at the Swissotel Kursaal Bern. From start to finish, the hotel and staff exceeded any and all expectations I had for this trip. The hotel is situated within a 5 minute walk from the city centre and has a car park (you pay for the parking but it’s great that there is one at the property). We met lovely staff who were so kind and couldn’t do enough for us. We had an amazing all you can eat buffet dinner in the restaurant and had a really nice waiter who again couldn’t do enough for us, the cocktails were amazing. Our bedroom was modern and comfortable, it had everything we could have needed. There was a mini bar, coffee machine and lots of cutlery & glasses. The shower was amazing. Over all we had a great stay, it is possibly one of the best hotels I have stayed in. I would highly recommend to anyone staying in bern. Thank you to the staff at the Swissotel Kurssal for a great experience

Nice Looking Hotel, Lacking Service

I had high expectations for this hotel because of the name and the price and felt it didn't live up to either. The room was small but very nice room features and esthetics were great. The view was awesome, the bed was comfy and I loved the pillow menu. The room service was also really great. Good food, amount of time for delivery was great as well. The not-so-good: Our "air system" in the room was not working the entire time and it was a constant fight with the hotel staff for them to even look at it. It was never addressed during our stay at all. When we brought it up to the lady at the front desk she told us we should open a window. I didn't pay $350 a night to be told to "open a window" and I'm not a fan of sleeping with bugs that fly into the room. We did manage to get a fan for the room and that did help a little but the attitude was not appreciated.

Also, we had a problem with housekeeping unplugging anything and EVERYTHING left to charge in our room while we were not there. One item was my electric toothbrush which was dead. They even when as far as removing our room key entirely from the wall. I found this very unacceptable. We are energy conscious but if I leave something to charge it's for a reason. Also on our checkout day housekeeping walked into our room at 8 am and saw my husband naked getting out of the shower.

The location is okay, not super convenient, overall beautiful hotel but staff need some major training in how to service and communicate with guests.

We arrived after a 27hour flight expecting to leave our bags as we were 4 hours before check in. They graciously let us have our room which was amazing. It was spacious with a stunning view and excellent layout and comfort. My husband likes a form pillow- no trouble they were delivered to our room. One of the few hotels I have stayed in where you don’t hear any noise from below , outside or from other rooms. Fabulous buffet breakfast with an array of choice. I could not fault this hotel or it’s location. Bus and tram right outside to get you to the old town

The hotel is located minutes from downtown Bern, and a great location. It's large, clean, and welcoming. The service is their real kicker - the front staff are gracious and kind. We had wonderful experiences with Selasi. She was welcoming and personalized everything in such a way that our expectations were exceeded. Both my fiance and I will stay again when we are in Bern next. Highly recommended!

I believe it was 20 CF per day which I thought was a bit steep given what i was paying for the suite i was in and there is nowhere to park otherwise. Notwithstanding, my wife and I really enjoyed this hotel.
