Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The room was dusty when we arrived. It seemed they cleaned it after the last guests departed, but forgot to check before we arrived. My husband is asthmatic and had a bad reaction. After the room was cleaned next morning, it was OK, but they should really check if there is a few days’ gap between one set of guests leaving and another set arriving.

The facilities are very basic - there is no fridge or tea/coffee making facilities in the room, although we managed to borrow a kettle from the reception (and later had to go back to borrow some cups).

The area around the hotel is quiet. The tram stop is very close, so it was easy to get around once we got to know the system. Having said that, I’d probably book somewhere closer to the old town as it’s not quite as central as it seemed from the map. The receptionist who greeted us when we arrived was friendly and helpful.

Taking the hotel at face value and considering the price we paid (I think quite a good deal from hotels.com) we were really pleased with our stay.

La Pergola isn’t in the middle of the city centre, but it’s quite close and well connected by public transport (which they give you a free pass for)! We parked our car there and got around on busses. The man at reception kindly didn’t charge us for parking as there was almost no demand for it that night. The service staff in general were really nice.

The hallways and common spaces are a bit bleak, but functional - it’s clear they’ve saved money here. The sound isolation isn’t the best either.

But the room itself is actually great! Big enough for suitcases and stuff to be strewn around because of a clever use fo space. Proper outdoor blinds for a good night’s sleep on the comfy king size bed. Body wash available, nothing fancy but does the job.

Honestly, for what we expected, it surpassed, so we were happy with our stay. Is it the best hotel in the world, no. Do you get what you pay for in expensive but beautiful Bern, yes. Good for those on budget!

We stayed at this hotel just one night so we could get up early to visit Bern's annual onion market. The hotel itself is small and in a residential area. It was an easy walk into the old town and there was plenty of public transport options (free with the Bern Welcome ticket). We had a room on the third floor which had a comfortable double bed, desk area and a second adjoining room with sofa and second television! Limited but adequate space for clothes storage but that was okay for us given a one-night stay. The bathroom was small but good shower. We had a fridge too. Like other reviews we found all the staff really efficient and welcoming.

The only reason I am putting an extra star It’s because the staff is nice and the room is clean..

But €90 a night this hotel can do much better, Hotel is so depressingI thought I was going into a hospital.

Location is not far from the old town but you need five minutes by tram so it’s fine.

But for a little bit more you can get a decent hotel in the center and much better quality.

The building is dead the reception let’s not talk about it..

The room so dark has no view nothing positive you leave this hotel feeling distressed

I stayed one night and then we booked another hotel right in the center for a little bit more but it was such an different experience

Avoid It

Very professional and friendly stuff, sadly this can't be sayed about management. Way to overpriced for what is giving. Very first shock was the terrible smell on the 2nd floor and after in the room. It has that old and humid smell when pipes are leaking in the walls. The rooms furnitures are very used, the pictures were taken somewhere in the past several years ago...
When in the famous Zermatt you get modern 3* spa hotel for the same price, I think there is an ethical problem with pricing...

Nice small clean hotel with parking. Outside or covered parking. Nice clean large rooms. In the city centre so not that cheap, and breakfast at 15 CHF was a little expensive. Free public transport ticket as part of the booking.

La Pergola is in a quiet residential neighbourhood and close to several trams and buses. There’s a Co-op supermarket nearby, and a few restaurants. I was pretty downcast initially by how small and basic the room is. There’s just a fan (and it’s been a hot summer), no kettle (there’s one on the first floor), no iron (ditto), no safe, no fridge, and inadequate bedside reading lights. The bedding is decent, the metal blackout blinds are highly effective, the shower water pressure was superb (but bring your own shampoo and conditioner), and the staff are friendly. The window opens—a big plus; so many hotel windows do not. My room rate didn’t include breakfast. All in all, it did the job, and at a good price for Bern, but I can’t say that returning to my room ever lifted my spirits.

The Service was PHENOMENAL !! The receptionist Felix is a real credit to this hotel as he provided above and beyond support as I lost my passport . He made the stay much more easy during this stressful time. The cost was extremely reasonable for the nice accommodations. The location is excellent to downtown and to the American Embassy.

We stayed at the Hotel LaPergola, booking through the hotel web site, for a one-night vacations tay passing through the city. The price was good for a night, and included breakfast. The hotel is located several blocks from the Old City, in a quiet residential neighborhood. It's a bit tricky to find: the sign for the hotel is actually located past the street where you turn, and it has a funny backward arrow to let you know you've gone too far. There is surface parking next to the hotel, and underground parking shared with nearby offices for a small additional fee. The underground parking has a flight of steps that you have to navigate with luggage to get up from it and it is not well lit.

The hotel is clean and modern, with a nice lobby and friendly reception. Check-in was efficient, and the receptionist offered a map and directions to several dinner spots within walking distance. The streets meet at odd angles as you walk towards the city, so be sure to check street names as you go. There are about three blocks of lonely walking between the hotel and the old city through street construction near the station: you might consider a cab later at night if you are uncomfortable with that. The walk to the old city is probably 15 minutes each way.

The rooms are small and somewhat tight, but have all the amenities and are crisp and comfortable. The room looked out onto a short street: there was no problem with lights or noise. The double bed was a genuine queen-size, and the shower was superb for both pressure and temperature.

The hotel serves a generous buffet breakfast that was included in the price: they had a pot of coffee, and a full range of cheese, meats, breads, boiled eggs, juices, cereals, yogurt, and fruit.

Overall, ithis is a well-run and attractive hotel with excellent food and a quiet and unobtrusive atmosphere in a good location.

Bed size is the main difference. Queen or twin. Email the reception to ask for room details, they're good about replying quickly.
