Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spent three nights at the Hotel Sclussel. It is located in the Old Town in a square with a fountain, church, restaurants and just blocks from the river and bridges. Very comfortable room and the breakfast is very good. Would definitely stay here again.

Hotel's Favourite
Rick Steve's travel book on Switzerland recommends this hotel and for good reason. It is clean, comfortable, convenient and you can tell the owner cares. Our room (# 404) was a good size for a building that is 300 years old but feels brand new. We had a private bathroom, sitting and bedroom areas. All were very clean and the bed and pillows were absolutely the best we slept on in our travels this summer (France and Switzerland). Breakfast is held in a bright room overlooking the nearby courtyard with easy listening music (soft jazz) playing in the background. The difference with this hotel is that you are served your breakfast options rather than a help yourself buffet. All of the staff are very friendly which helps add to the old world charm of this hotel. We plan on coming back to Luzern one day and the hotel Schlussel will be our first choice!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Schlussel. It is conveniently located to everything we wanted to see and do in Lucerne. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel does not have A/C but at night we were able to keep cool with opening the windows and using a large fan they supplied.

Very pleasant stay. Conveniently located. The woman ( owner?) staffing the front desk was quite helpful. Great location in pedestrian and bike friendly area. Close to all four bridges. Has an elevator.

A good stay in a great location. The staff was very friendly, the room very clean and comfortable with a balcony and a great view of the plaza and church. The dining room upstairs has a long history and it is beautiful, we had breakfast there daily. We did have dinner one night in the hotel and the food was very good. We had trouble finding a laundry mat opened because of a holiday weekend and the hotel was able to help us with this service for a fee.

Beautiful hotel, it looks out over a church and small square in the small old town of Lucerne. Very well located, close to the river, train station and all the main sites. We stayed in a superior double room, it was a good size and very comfortable. The bed was one of the best we’ve stayed in recently, it was heavenly! The breakfast was thoroughly enjoyable, it was served at the table which was lovely. Thank you for a lovely stay!

What a great stay we had at this lovely old boutique hotel. Room was just right for my wife and I and the hotel is situated in a nice part of town. Easy to walk to see the sites of Lucerne. 10 minutes walk from the station too. Great service and nice breakfast as well.

Wow, what a lovely stay. Absolutely beautiful hotel. I lucked out and arrived on the last two days of the Christmas market which was right outside the front door of the hotel. Room was very clean, well organized, and stylish. Reception was very kind and helpful. The location was very easy to walk from the train station and very close to major attractions. Couldn’t have been better.

My wife and I stayed a couple nights at the Hotel Schlussel this past June and really loved it. The room was very comfortable and we slept like rocks. The staff was super helpful and accommodating as well. Plus, the location is perfect. It's on the quiet side of the river, but nearby lots of great cafes and stores.

No matter how much you travel, you should always be prepared to be blown away by the most surprising things that get thrown at you when you are on the road. Some could be negative, but the positive ones are always pleasantly memorable. Like my stay in this quaint little bed-and-breakfast boutique in the heart of Lakeside Lucerne’s old town. I was very nervous about booking here after so many mixed reviews. But I took the plunge and decided to stay here as everything else in the old town was super swiss francs expensive! But I was at least happy that I managed to score a super cool budget deal. But what got me super excited was being allocated a charming room with a cool view like this! Working from the road cannot get any better. And the best part was what happened next. I fired up the Wifi connection(as this is the most important thing when you are working remotely and quickly checked the speed. I couldn't believe the blazing speed this mom-and-pop bed and breakfast provided that I had to use multiple services to double-check!!! I have never seen this speed anywhere in the world in all my travels!!! Super value for money. LOCATION: Fantastic location right in the heart of old town. DINE + DRINK: Cozy restaurant in the first floor that served regional fare as well as good coffee to get refuelled ROOM: I stayed in 402, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Wonderful view of the historic buildings packed around a charming courtyard! IN good weather, you could just chill all day long at the lovely balcony that came attached to the room looking into this courtyard ; SIZE: Reasonably spacious room; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: COmpact bathroom with a Stand in shower; TOILETRIES: Not the fanciest cosmetics, you might need to bring your own. FACILITIES: No Gym or Pool - just pure Swiss Chill! SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs sweetly. HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Unbelievably high-speed Wi-Fi that works well all over the property. I could hit connection speed upto 300 Mbps!!! Something that i least expected in a b&b kind of place like this, especially in a smaller town.
