My recent stay at a Renaissance hotel Lucerne offered a mix of positive experiences marred by a distressing incident that has led me to share this review. Firstly, I want to acknowledge that the hotel itself provides good value for the price, situated in an excellent location. The check-in process was notably pleasant, thanks to a very friendly and helpful staff member. Such hospitality reinforces my loyalty to Marriott, where I’ve been a proud member for over 20 years, achieving Platinum status for life. However, a significant oversight occurred during our stay which I feel is important to share. Upon our arrival, we were informed that only one of our two rooms was ready. Subsequently, my wife, ensuring the safety of her valuables, secured her rings and watch in the room safe. Unfortunately, in the hustle of relocating to our second room later that evening, these items were inadvertently left behind. This realization dawned on us a day and a half later while at our ski hotel, and there is no doubt in our minds that these items were left in the safe; it was a moment observed by our two children and myself. Upon contacting the hotel, we were informed that the safe was empty and that it is standard protocol for the cleaning staff to open and inspect locked safes after guests’ departure. This was news to me, and it has led to a very unfortunate situation where we must consider the possibility that the items were taken without being reported. I want to clarify that this review is not intended as a malicious accusation. My loyalty to Marriott remains strong, but I feel it is crucial to share this experience to serve as a lesson to others. In response, I plan to file a police report upon my return to the town. This incident has led to a resolve that my wife and I will no longer bring valuable jewelry on our trips, nor will we use hotel safes in the future. It is also disheartening to report that attempts to discuss this matter with the hotel manager were unsuccessful; I was told he was too busy to speak with me. While this review cannot rectify the loss of my wife’s jewelry and watch, my hope is that it will educate others on the precautions necessary when entrusting valuables to hotel safes. The overall experience has slightly dented my confidence in what has been many years of trust and satisfaction with Marriott.

This is my home away from home when I travel to Lucerne for business. Walking distance from, well everything, they cater to Americans (the Times at breakfast, American music, staff speak perfect English, etc.) It even has an ice machine and a gym, which is an everyday thing in the states but not in Switzerland. The cappuccino at breakfast is the best I have ever had. Just 2 blocks from the train and great restaurants. The only reason I would not stay here is if they are sold out.

Perfect stay, great desk staff always friendly and helpful. They were always busy but took time to greet everyone and seemed genuinely happy to work there. I stayed in a larger room on the fourth floor. It was clean and quiet with plenty of space. Breakfast was included and was excellent. The staff in the breakfast room were attentive and quick. It was my fourth time staying here and will stay again.

Hubby booked this hotel and although it was not in the old town which I normally prefer, it was still a terrific location and hotel. The service was outstanding, Sophie helped us SO much with recommendations and help with travel. The room was large and bathroom was very nice. Only downside was the often noisy hallway outside the door which woke us up on more than one occasion. We did not do breakfast or eat at the hotel but there are plenty of options close by. The train station was a short 5 minute walk which was great and also a short walk to the old town and lots of restaurants and shops. We highly recommend this hotel!

I was first thinking that ok..this will be a regular hotel room..and Marriotts are nice.. I was wrong.. IT is not just a Marriott. It is a beautiful more like a boutique type hotel. The staff were great. The location is a short distance from the train station and everything is close and walkable. The hotel gave a transportation pass for the entire city. We used the bus to come back into town and it was easy (first time I took a bus in 40 years) All the main attractions for downtown are right there. The shower...best shower I have ever had in my life. The bed was very comfortable and I slept soundly with out outside noise ever even being heard. The dinner in the hotel will not get a thumbs up, skip that one, but the breakfast was outstanding and one of the best we had in Switzerland. It was a buffet and made to order eggs and pancakes. I would definitely stay here again.

Rooms were comfortable and the bathroom was spacious with good water pressure. The location was great, just a 5 minute walk to the train station. The hotel was lacking in decor and style, but it was a pleasant stay. The front desk staff were also very friendly.

Reading the reviews prior to arrival, I noted that there appeared to be issues with the staff and the air conditioning. The latter concerned me due a medical condition. I made contact with the hotel prior to arrival and was assured all would be fine. And it was. The welcoming staff had the room cooled prior to our arrival and furnished a portable fan. Very comfortable room (junior suite) with ample space and many amenities. The hotel staff and those in the restaurant were all friendly and quite accommodating. The location is excellent with the train and bus depot nearby. Many restaurants and other shops were within steps of the hotel. Short walk to the Lucerne river and to the many bridges that connect to downtown business/tourist district. Overall, an excellent experience. Highly recommend

My husband and I drove to Lucerne from Munich for a one-night stay at the Marriott Renaissance. This is not a hotel that I would recommend or ever stay in again. As with previous posts the staff was horrible. We had just driven in and parked in front of the hotel while we sorted a few things out on our phones. The front desk clerk came out and asked if we are checking in. We were taken by surprise as he then proceeded to open our trunk and take our belongs out before we even exited the car. He rushed us through check in. We are Amex Platinum and Marriott Bonvoy , so an upgrade, bottles of water and complimentary breakfast are normally included in all of our stays. We were not offered any of those. The front desk clerk said he had upgraded us to a nice room. When we went to the room, there was really nothing special about it. The worst part was that at 7am we started hearing jingling keys right outside of our room. Then items being taken in and out and a door opening and closing. We realized that he had placed us right next to the housekeeping closet. The noise continued through the morning until we left. When we went downstairs to check out, I explained what had transpired. The Check in clerk was not phased and said it was the first time he was hearing of this. There was no effort to make it right. We paid around $470 for that room and another $50 for their parking. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on a hotel and staff.

Dear uafzal1, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at the Renaissance Lucerne Hotel with the Tripadvisor community. On one hand, I am happy that you were very satisfied with the city centre location of our property and hope you got to explore our beautiful city, even if it was a short trip. On the other hand, I regret to learn that we could not convince you with the allocated room. As I do not have your booking details, I can unfortunatly not take a look into the provided membership benefits. Thank you for understanding. Nevertheless, I hope you had a great time in Lucerne and that you choose to stay with us again when your travels bring you back to the area so we can show you the great hospitality and service our team worked very hard to provide every single day. We stayed for 3 nights in a Studio Suite with 1 king bed and 1 sofa bed. We are a family of 3. The hotel has a great location and is an easy walk from both the train station and the sights in Old Town. We could easily walk everywhere we wanted to go. This was the hotel's best feature. The room was small but was adequate for our family. The bathroom is very small and there is no door on the shower. Water pressure was great, but the room got very wet after every use. The room was very warm even when it was cool outside. The AC would make some minimal improvement. I was surprised since the outside temperatures were only in the 70s, I wish were could have opened a window. Something was leaking into the closet and floor of the 2nd room. It was enough water to soak a bath towel. I told the front desk about the problem twice, but it was not addressed. I mentioned it again at check out and just got a blank stare. Overall, the stay was adequate, but expensive. If I return to the area, I will probably try another option.

Dear yodakat, First, I would not only like to thank you for having booked with us, but also for having taken the time to share the made experience with us. I regret to learn that we could not meet your expectations concerning the design of our bathrooms and our AC system. Our hotel is in a century old building which reduces our ability to make major changes in the structure of the rooms or for example the AC systems. Nevertheless we did change these systems last year in order to make sure we can cool down your rooms as good as possible. I already had a brief conversation with my team in order to make sure all the necessary processes are in place and that all our agents can provide you with all the information you need and go above and beyond to make your stay memorable. In the hope that you still had a great time in Lucerne and that you will choose to stay with us again when your travels bring you back to the area. We would love to show you the great hospitality and service our team worked very hard to provide every single day. Best regards F.Winzap - Director of Operations

I am currently at the hotel and have never has such rude front desk staff. The women behind the counter could miserable. The general manager was lovely, I am a lifetime Titanium Elite member and would not recommend this hotel based on this! He promised our room quickly and the front desk manager purposely made us wait till 3pm (we were promised by 2pm and the rooms were ready then but they still make us wait-the maid confirmed they were ready). I also asked for them to make dinner reservations and they never did. When we walked back into the hotel the front desk lady’s looked down and didn’t greet or engage with the guests (we were not the only ones in the lobby). Also, the hotel does not have proper air conditioning, I know it is an old property but it made our room uncomfortable. I would stay away from the Marriott property! I am 58 with over 1,100 Marriott night and this is the first time I felt it critical to leave a review.
