The Lucerne city hotel Waldstätterhof is steeped in history. The striking building with its impressive façade and turn-of-the-century charm was built in 1898 and is a listed building. However, this does not mean that you have to do without contemporary comfort, as the hotel has been carefully renovated and modernised step by step since 2004. The hotel has 96 modern and traditionally furnished, spacious and air-conditioned rooms and junior suites. The Comfort rooms are furnished with great taste and attention to detail and with an interesting mix of tradition and modernity. The spacious Premium rooms and suites are bright and modern and offer plenty of space and comfort. All rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV, minibar and desk and have access to the hotel's free Wi-Fi. The bright, light-flooded Waldstätterhof restaurant conveys a modern and fresh ambience. Here you can enjoy Lucerne and Swiss specialities such as Lucerne Fritschipastete, a fine Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, a veal sausage with onion sauce and classics such as a tartare of beef rump, prepared directly at the table. All dishes are made exclusively with fresh, high-quality products. In addition, we offer the richest selection of gluten-free dishes in the city and region of Lucerne. In the morning our hotel guests help themselves here from the large breakfast buffet and during the day the Waldstätterhof restaurant is a popular meeting place for a coffee or a glass of wine. For seminars, conferences, retreats and business meetings, the Hotel Waldstätterhof has seven elegant meeting and seminar rooms for up to 50 people. The characterful, elegant and bright rooms are also very suitable for parties and banquets for up to 50 people. The Hotel Waldstätterhof is located directly next to the main railway station and only a few steps away from the lake, the boat landing stages, the bus station and the old town and the culture and congress centre. Sights, shopping and leisure activities are all within walking distance or a short bus ride away. For guests arriving by car, parking is available in the inner courtyard.

My room was tiny. A twin bed was pushed against the wall, there was a large armoire and small desk with chair on the wall opposite the bed. The bathroom was so small, but sufficed. The shower was a good size, but the shower head kept falling down or wouldn’t stay at the angle it was set at. The water often fluctuated from hot to cold, even within only the first 5 minutes of my shower. I expect hotels to be able to maintain hot water while showering. I think some of the other single rooms did have a little more space with a chair to sit in, but mine did not. The food at the restaurant wasn’t anything special but it was adequate. I was given a code for the free WiFi in Lucerne, which worked, but in my room I only had 1/3 bars for signal strength of WiFi. They did provide a code for free public transit, which I didn’t use but it’s nice they provided.

The location near the city center is the best thing about this hotel. There are several others nearby, so personally I would try another one next time that had a more spacious single room.

Location couldn't be better, Right across the street from the train station so you don't have to haul your luggage a long distance. Also, it's a quick walk across the bridge to Old Town. Lovely old historic hotel completely updated inside, with clean and crisp rooms. Unfortunately there's a lively nightclub downstairs so we heard a constant bass thump until 3 AM on most nights from our 4th floor room. But breakfast is superb in a beautiful dining room and our stay overall was enjoyable.

This hotel has definitely gone downhill since I visited a year ago. Apart from the leaflet pinned to the back of the room door explaining what to do if there was a fire there was absolutely no information in the room, i.e. check out times, times the restaurant was open, TV channels etc. I twice told reception about lack of information in the room but in the 7 days I was there nothing was done. The staff in the restaurant didn't know I was half board, had to tell them most nights, service extremely slow some evenings. Housekeeping ok although the waste bin not emptied 2 days out of 7 and there was a pile of magazines left in the hallway for 4 days. Have stayed at this hotel numerous times in the past but this may well have been the last time, will be considering other hotels next time.

I was a coordinator for a group of 18 friends who spent 15 days on a Swiss Rail vacation. The Zurci based Tour Company which arranged the tour recommended Waldstatterhof Hotel for our 2 day stay in Lucerne. The check in was efficient and fast. However, we did not hear that the Lucerne Travel Card (a letter size sheet of paper) contained the password for Wifi. The password was a strong of numbers instead of the usual password format. 3 out of 9 rooms called the reception to enquire about password. The receptionist on duty (Initial H.A.) asked one friend to call me to find out about the password or to go downstairs to the reception desk.
When I left my key on the way out, he and another young lady on duty at the time asked me why so many of my friends called them about the password. They said that they were busy. We have travelled the world for the past 15 years as a group and have never encountered such terrible attitude. They should know that they were in the service industry. The guests should be treated with respect even if they asked stupid questions.
The hotel is very well located close to the train station. Rooms are adequate for a 3 star hotel. The restaurant downstairs was decent.
Management should educate these two young receptionists to treat their guests better.
It is a shame that our vacation was tainted by the less than professional attitude.

The hotel is centrally located and easy to get to. However, there are better options in Lucerne. We booked two rooms - a regular one and a premium room. The regular room had air conditioning and the premium one did not!!! Not sure what was so “premium” about it. It was slightly larger then the regular room but that’s it. Its baffling to me that you have a hotel with half the rooms having air conditioning and half not having it?! Especially the newer/bigger rooms don’t have air conditioning. When we inquired about getting a room with an AC, we were told there was a fan in the room. There was a small fan for a big premium room which didn’t do anything - the room was still pretty hot, especially in the summer time. We asked if they had a portable AC, which a lot of other hotels provided in Switzerland, and they did. It. We had requested for a quiet room and our room was in front of the main street. It was very loud! Overall, not the best experience, especially when traveling as a family.

Unfortunately I would not recommend this hotel. The location is wonderful close to everything you want to be. The hotel rooms do not have air conditioning and you're able to open the doors/windows the problem is they are in a very popular area so it's extremely noisy and loud. Was not able to sleep. I asked the staff for a fan and it helped a little bit. The rooms are extremely small in the hotel is a little bit dated. Unfortunately the shower was also a mess went from extremely hot water to cold water to hot water making it very uncomfortable. I asked the staff as well for just a sheet so I wouldn't have to be under a hot comforter as the room was very warm never received it. The staff was mediocre and not all that friendly. Although on checkout it was a different staff and they were much nicer. Lastly the hotel does not have its own internet they rely on the cities internet and that's fine but unfortunately in my room it was so weak that I really couldn't get much.

The Waldstatter Hof is my go-to place in Luzern! Right next to the train station, the hotel has excellent single or double rooms that are clean and modern and with all amenities one needs. It's perfect for a quick stopover in Luzern or as a base to go for the day skiing at Engelberg. The breakfast buffet has everything necessary including scrambled eggs and bacon! Staff are extremely pleasant and friendly and helpful with anything from directions to here or there and keeping bags for the day and providing a place to change after a day of skiing on check-out day. Will never need to look for a different hotel in Luzern!

Based on some of the reviews my expectations were higher than reality.

The location is great in the center of the city, right next to the train station and only few minutes walk from the famous Kappel-Bridge.

The room was small. The bed was very short and squeaked at every movement on it. For this price I would have expected more quality and space.

Breakfast was ok, but the bread was not really fresh.

I loved the 19th century building of the hotel. The room was very modern, though, very large, had a small balcony, a large desk, a built-in wardrobe, a safe, and a comfortable chair. The bathroom was very nice too.
The staff was very friendly.
The only thing I didn't appreciate so much was that the mattress was too soft in the upper part.

Clean
great Location, just 2 minutes from the trainstation an all major sights including boattrip and wooden bridge
Great breakfast, very fresh, super nice waitresses
Very friendly reception staff.
Rooms are very clean, not big, but totally enough.
If you are looking for a nice and clean hotel in the city center with outstanding staff, than dont look any further.
I normally book four or five stars. This hotel is totally a four star hotel.
Thanks everybody!

Always have had showers here. Be sure to ask for a room with a large area shower. Some of them are quite small. That said, I would stay no where else when in Lucerne. Great hotel, great staff!

Personally I wouldn't rely on it. But I stayed at this hotel for a week during a heatwave and found the ceiling fans provided excellent air movement and ventilation - it's not quite air con, but most old buildings in Europe don't offer air con anyway.
