Stayed here for 6 nights and used points for payment. The room was decent, no air conditioning but did have a fan. This was not a problem because the nights were cool and you could leave the window open. Now the problem with leaving the window open was the bar and pizza place on either side. Music until 2am and everyone smoked and you got the smell of smoke all the time. This hotel is associated with the Monopolo where you had to check-in and out as well as going there for breakfast. The breakfast was nothing to rave about but it suited my needs. This was not my 1st choice of a hotel and probably will not stay here again when I return to Lucerne. All the employees were very nice.

We may have gotten lucky and was put in what looked to be a newly renovated room. This was a hotel room that we dearly missed towards the end of our multi-country anniversary trip throughout Europe. Check in was through their sister hotel Monopol nearby. The receptionist was so helpful and gave us suggestions on where to go in Luzern. We only stayed here for one night, but they were so kind as to decorate the bed and made our stay that much more special. The room was very spacious and the street noise was nonexistent with the balcony doors closed. The bathroom was spacious as well with an oversized bathtub. The bed was so comfortable to sleep in. We enjoyed a nice dinner from the pizza restaurant next door on the balcony since there were chairs and a table there. I wish we stayed longer in Luzern just because of this hotel room. Highly recommend!

This hotel was booked for me on a work trip and it’s been very disappointing. Extremely small rooms that are boiling hot. No air conditioning and the windows can’t be open while you sleep as it’s so noisy outside. They clearly know about these issues as the oom comes with earplugs and a rickety old fan.

The room is clean but it’s very basic. One single bed with a paper thin mattress. A small shower, toilet and sink. The door may as well be non-existent as you will be woken by the noise every time someone comes past the room in the night time.

On the first floor rooms (and even the corridor) you can hear the music from the restaurant below thumping away. If you’re a light sleeper then insist on a room as high up as you can!

I usually go with “you get what you pay for” but this hotel is not cheap. I’m disappointed by the quality of this hotel and will ensure we don’t book here again. It’s rated as a 3 star but really it’s a 2 at most. One step above a shared hostel room in a third world country.

Dear Guest Your recent experience at our hotel is very concerning to us, and we regret to hear about the inconveniences you faced during your stay. We understand how crucial a peaceful environment is for our guests, and we strive to facilitate this. Your feedback on the noise levels has been duly noted. With regard to the room conditions you've described, we'd like to clarify that we strive to provide a comfortable and enjoyable stay for all our guests. It seems, unfortunately, that we fell short of your expectations in this instance. We'd also like to address the issue regarding the noise from the restaurant below. The operators are indeed instructed to limit the volume from midnight, and we sincerely apologize if this guideline was not adhered to during your stay. We will engage in discussions with them to prevent future occurrences. While we regret to hear that you won't be returning, we appreciate your feedback and will take it into account as we strive to improve the hotel's experience. Sincerely yours Hotel Alpina

When I first walk into the room, I noticed a pair of ear plugs on the desk. I looked at my wife thinking did she request for that as I tend snore alot when I sleep.
After a while, I heard some music coming from below, then I realized what the plugs are for.
There is a pub near by and the music could played till late at night especially on weekends.
The other thing is that the flooring in the room is made of wood and whenever you step on it, it creaks. The hotel reception said that is because it is a old building.
Finally, there is a pizza place right below our room and the smell of pizza could be smelled from the corridors. Luckily the smell doesn’t travelled into the room.

The worse: the room. Do not book a single OR fall for the “room assigned at check-in” cause you’ll still get a tiny single. Mine was so small that it is the first time EVER (I’m 69) that I objected to the room size & was moved to another single bed room, just a bit longer in size. Beware.

The hotel & rooms are worn & need refurbishments. The shower is an accident waiting to happen; slippery without the option of a non-slip rubber mat: bring your own. The room is carpeted & the carpets need to be cleaned; mine was stained & only vacuumed: bring sandals (yuk!). Good were the water pressure & large windows which I kept open ( in October). Suggest
not booking any hotel without a/c in Switzerland even through October.

The staff ladies were excellent: polite, professional, kind & welcoming attitude: loved them. Also excellent was the ONE man taking care of the breakfast room. He worked non-stop doing everything & still was professional, courteous & efficient,

The only reason I would recommend this hotel is the location which is but one block from the train station & 2 blocks from the river, chain bridge, Jesuit Church & Lake Lucerne docks. That said, I will search for an alternative option. In my 11 days in Switzerland on the Grand Train Tour changing cities each bight, this was my “least favorite” hotel. Keep looking.

Close to the train station. Many restaurants nearby. Room was very basic albeit fairly clean. No air conditioning so it was rather warm. There was a table fan but didn’t help much. The hotel provided both earplugs and noice cancelling headphones (!) as the night life was very loud (think loud music beats) but not very easy to sleep with huge headphones…

No words can describe the worst experience we had at this hotel. Hellish is an understatement. We checked in at its sister hotel Monopol as other reviews said. There was no staff at this so called "Hotel" Alpina. Our room was facing the street and the bathroom has the clear see through glass. You have no privacy unless close the curtains. The room was unbearably hot in May with no A/C and you have to close curtains. The worst part: We had absolutely NO sleep the entire night because of the noises coming from the street and the bar around the corner. There was NO insulation. In the morning we work up with pounding headaches and my husband got really sick. We had to cancel the trip to Zurich and lost prepaid hotel fee and tour package. When we told this to the manager, Franzis, she said that it was like all other hotels in the city center, old building and city noises. What a response from the manager of the hotel from hell! Most of the hotels in Europe are in the old building at the city center and we have never had such horrendous experience. Usually the owners add the noise and weather insulation to those old building when they renovated them to make the "hotels". But Alpina obviously had the sham renovation with the modern interior and windows and not the real necessities for the livable accommodation.

Dear Socalbeachgal Thank you very much for sharing your experience at the Hotel Alpina. We do understand your disappointment and are very sorry to hear your bad experience. You are absolutely right in describing the area as a very lifely one with lots going on as you may expect in a city centre. Any rooms with AC are usually marked as such, which we have not. It is very unfortunate that your trip got spoiled becauce of one night. Best regards

I was really excited to start travelling after 2 years hiatus. I chose Switzerland as I had already made plans for the a 3 weeks trip in May 2020. I had to cancel it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
I picked Alpina Hotel in Luzerne due to its great loation and affordability. It is near many eateries and other attractions. I booked 2 rooms; 338 and 339. We get to enjoy the street view and marvelled at the beautiful building opposite our rooms. I noticed that the opposite building was built in 1537 [ need to confirm this ]. The street was generally quiet except in the mornings when rubbish trucks cleared did their cleaning.
The room has simple layout and mine has 2 sinks in the living area. The bed and pillows area are comfortable. The bathroom is small but all items worked well. I did not see any staff at Alpina as most of them were based at the nearby sister hotel, The Monopol, which is located about 20m away. Checking in was fast and easy and it was done at Monopol. I was grateful for all the guidance and assistance provided by the receptionist. Alpina hotel is located about 110m away from Luzerne Train Station and it was relatively easy to find. My room ; 339 is bigger than 338. All in all, I had a really great experience staying in this hotel.

Heartless scammers! We booked well in advance through Agoda and got booking confirmation on email. When we reached the hotel straight from the airport after 15 hours of travel with 2 children, the receptionist told us that the room was not available and when we checked Agoda customer service , they offered us an alternative hotel 4 hours drive from there.
With no choice, we had to find an expensive last minute air bnb nearby.
