I stayed here for 9 nights for a conference in the town. I am so glad I chose this hotel. I was given an upgrade to a double room due to the length of my stay, which was very nice. The room was spacious and had a balcony with a view of part of the lake. Unfortunately I didn't have much time to enjoy it as it was a busy week. The bed was firm, just as I prefer, and very comfy. The room had air conditioning, which was great, as the temperature was in the high 20s for all of my stay. Plenty of storage and the bathroom had everything I needed, once I found the hidden cupboard behind the mirror! The staff were so friendly and helpful. I want to mention the reception staff Maria Theresa and Monique in particular who were very kind and happy to do anything they could to help - thank you very much! They let me use the hotel's laundry room to iron a few items and even went to the restaurant next door to get some ice for me to help with inflammation from insect bites, which I had a bad reaction to. Beware of the midges when sitting outside at night. The location of the hotel is perfect, the road in front of the hotel is very quiet, hardly any traffic, just a few steps and you're walking along the pathway alongside the lake. Only 10 minutes walk to Piazza Grande and the Palacinema where our conference was held. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. A nice touch from the hotel was the 24 hour access to tea and coffee, as this isn't provided in the rooms, but is accessible in the breakfast room at any time. I found the hotel to be extremely clean and comfortable, and quiet. Not sure how many rooms were occupied during my stay, but I didn't really hear anyone else. I would definitely recommend staying here.

In a group of 23 with Road Scholar, we were scheduled for 3 nights. On the second night at least 9 of the group tested positive for Covid. Those folks could not continue on the tour but were allowed to stay in the hotel. The hotel must be commended for the safe and excellent care. First day they placed breakfast outside the door, other days we could go down and bring choices back to room. No maid service but clean towels were provided. We could pick up an evening meal at the desk, without meeting other Covid carriers. The hotel had obviously been through this before and were careful and kind. My wife and I were negative but elected to not continue with the "Covid tour." As the tour ended in 4 days, at least 11 stayed at the hotel for 3 more nights before departing for Zurich Airport and home to the US. We all had to pay for the room and meals by ourselves as Road Scholar abandoned us. It is a lovely hotel with a great location, but they do not have air conditioning and the temperature was 85-90 degrees making sleeping very unpleasant. Armand

We spent three nights in early September in a room overlooking Lago Maggiore. Reasonably priced, comfortable room with a magnificent view, great location, good breakfasts and particularly helpful staff who helped us navigate the perils of parking, advised us on places to eat and were very friendly.

I stayed at the Geranio with my two young sons for a (very warm) couple of days. We had a really lovely time. The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from Locarno station, and is about a 10 minute walk from the Piazza Grande in the town centre. There is 2 hour parking outside the hotel, and longer 4 hour parking spaces a few minutes up the road. However spaces could be hard to find at busy points. The hotel has a deal with the nearby multi storey car park opposite the station - you pay 14F for 24 hours. The reception staff were so helpful, full of ideas of where to go on days out. Guests also get free local transport under a local Canton scheme to cut congestion - so we caught a bus to Ascona to enjoy a walk through its historic centre. The room was fine. Without air conditioning it could get very warm in the evening, however it was pleasant to sit outside on the balcony. The children slept on a sofa bed. Breakfast was a good choice of cereals, bread and ham/cheese. There is also coffee available at any time, which was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend Hotel Getanio, we enjoyed our stay.

Staying at Hotel Geranio was one of the highlights of my two-week trip to Italy and Switzerland. The hotel rooms are sparkling clean, with generous towels and lovely toiletries, and a cute little balcony. The room is small, but there are a desk and a place for luggage, and also a good reading light on the bedside table, as well as a place to hang clothes. Also, a big assortment of coffee and tea is available day and night, and a bag of delicious biscotti are in the room when you arrive, so each night before bed, I had a cup of ginger lemon tea and some biscotti as I remembered the day with its many delights (the camellia festival! and the chair lift to Mt. Cimetta that was one of the most beautiful peak experiences I have ever had). The breakfasts are wonderful, with hardboiled eggs and ones you can boil yourself, along with meats, a wide selection of cheese and many kinds of delicious breads, yogurt, and fruit. Wifi worked perfectly in the room. So a 5-star review is easy to give, but I would really like to add another 5 stars for the wonderful help the staff gave me when I left my cell phone at the railway station. The woman at the desk called my phone, a man at the train station answered, and I picked up the phone moments later. However, in tearing the bed apart to look for the phone, I knocked my prescription sunglasses into the bedding and didn't see them as I was leaving. By the time I realized they were missing, we were on a train to Zurich. I emailed the hotel, they replied very quickly to let me know the glasses had been found, they mailed them to me promptly, and I so appreciated their kind attitude and efficiency. I certainly intend to stay there the next time I am at Lake Maggiore, although I hope I am not remembered as the ditzy woman who couldn't keep track of anything! Note: The hotel is convenient to several parks, the cable cars to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso, the chairlift that continues up the mountain to the top of Mt. Cimetta, and the Termali Salini and Spa, all within walking distance. Fall in love with Locarno at the Hotel Geranio!

The hotel was in a great location – across from Lake Maggiore. It is within walking distance from Piazza Grande Locarno and the funicular to Sasso di Madonna. Nice walking area along the lake. We were lucky enough to park overnight, across the street from hotel; otherwise, I believe there is a pay parking garage nearby. It was rather hot when we were there, so the room was very hot. No air conditioning, which is common in Europe. Room was a little outdated, but very clean. Breakfast was very good and it was gorgeous sitting on the balcony to eat. Front desk employees were very nice and helpful.

The hotel is Bed and Breakfast, it does not serve evening meals. This is not a problem as there are several good restaurants in Locarno. The room we had was at the side of the hotel, it was spacious and the WC and bathroom were in separate rooms, all part of the bedroom. The breakfasts were buffet style with plenty of choice, typically Swiss. Excellent hotel, would stay again if we go back to Locarno.

This was a last minute booking. I had my little dog with me and despite booking a pet friendly hitel, arrived to check in only to discovef no dogs allowed. Hotel Geranio au Lac is in a fabulous location just across the road from the lake. There ia a lounge o the first floor but no bar. Tea and coffee are availavble on 2nd floor, whenever you like. There are also vending machines. The hotel next door has a bar and Restaurant and there are numerous Bars and Restaurants and shops within 5 minutes walk. The train station is two minutes walk away and has a shop where you can buy food and drink. Reception staff very friendly and heelpful. Lovely buffet breakfast on Terrace. Convenient parking in front of hotel. Free from 7.00pm to 7.00am. Just 1 chf per hour, maximum 2 hours. You can pay after 7.00pm so no need to worry until 9.00am, there is also a car park nearby, by the Casino.

We stayed here for five nights in August 2018 - Room 312. The room had a huge balcony/terrace. There was plenty of storage space (and safe) – including a large cabinet in the bathroom. On the first night one of the beds squeaked loudly – but this was fixed (strangely) by moving the bed a few inches away from the wall. Breakfast (included in the rate) was the usual Continental Fare, but the variety was a tad limited. On one day they ran out of bread & croissants which took a long time to replenish. (We think they had to defrost it). There were no hot options – apart from an egg boiling machine – but keep an eye out for young kids pinching your egg! The hotel does provide (free) coffee making machines on the second floor. (There are no facilities in the room.) There is an entrance/exit on the second floor which goes out close to the Tourist Information Office & the station. (you need your room key to gain entrance.) There is a small supermarket next to the station. The one “downside” for the hotel is the lack of parking. There are spaces immediately outside the hotel – but these are limited to a max of 2 hours between 7 am & 7 pm. About 50 yards up the road the limit is four hours. The solution is to use the multi-story carpark near the station – you can buy a ticket from the hotel to cover the period you want and you can go in and out all day. You have to pay the receptionist cash for the ticket, because it is a separate arrangement to the hotel (hence you can’t use the hotel credit card machine.) It costed us 42 Swiss Francs for three days. The car park is about ten minutes walk from the hotel – turn left as you approach the Wild West Restaurant. All the staff, especially all the Receptionists were extremely helpful. We found the Restaurants close to the hotel on the expensive side. We would recommend the Tegola restaurant (turn left from the hotel and about 10 minutes walk along the promenade) we ate there three times during our stay – excellent Italian food. The hotel is convenient for the Ferries, Trains & funicular.
