Reviews summary

Hotel Phoenix emerges as a gem in the heart of the action, with its prime central location often commended by many travelers for the ease of accessing local spots and enjoying breathtaking Matterhorn vistas. Guests consistently commend its immaculate condition and the cozy, alpine-inspired atmosphere that extends from the well-appointed lobby to the modern rooms, complete with festive decorations and inviting fireplaces. While the Matterhorn view rooms and inclusive breakfast are seen as providing great value, some guests mention additional costs and a wish for more flexible booking options. The service at Hotel Phoenix is frequently lauded for its warmth and meticulous attention to detail, ensuring a memorable stay for guests. However, the rooms, though clean and equipped with modern amenities, are sometimes found to be on the smaller side. Despite this, the overall sentiment is one of satisfaction, particularly with the hotel's amenities, which, aside from some desires for more in-room features, leave visitors impressed.

I stayed at the Hotel Phoenix in Zermatt for a few days while touring Switzerland. The hotel is clean and cozy warm in the winter. The staff are friendly and helpful, excellent hosts. They clearly care about the quality of the breakfast room, it was topnotch with everything you could want and a very nice new automatic hot beverage machine. I booked a Standard Double Room with Balcony & Matterhorn View, Breakfast included through the hotel website, and received an excellent value for the price. Luckily, the weather cooperated & the view of the Matterhorn from the balcony was outstanding. Everything in the room worked properly. I would absolutely stay here again if I return to Zermatt. I arrived by train, make sure you call the Hotel Phoenix for a transfer to the hotel. They will send one of the little electric bus taxis to pick you up for a lower price than if you hire one yourself.

It's always hard to find the right hotel in a country/city you have never been to, especially when all you have to go by is google maps or the internet to guide your search. We feel like we hit the jackpot after staying at Hotel Phoenix! My husband and I were traveling with our 13 year old, which can often make it challenging to find a room that can accommodate 3 persons. We found the rooms at hotel Phoenix to be spacious and very comfortable. Our room had a pull out sofa that was super comfortable for my teen and much better than the cot beds we are often given in other hotels. The room had comfortable beds and a great shower, which is something I always hope for but you never really know until you get there. And we had a cute balcony where we could relax in the evenings with a cold drink while the sun went down, and we had a view of the top of the Matterhorn which made it even nicer. What I appreciated most about this hotel was the lengths they went to for breakfast to work around the COVID regulations. Many hotels have simply canceled breakfast offerings, because it's simply much easier for them to be safe that way. But as a traveler, having the breakfast included is such a perk and so much more convenient. Hotel Phoenix went to great lengths to ensure you still had a great breakfast, but changed how they offer it to ensure your safety. Breakfast was broken up into three time slots you could register for and you were given the full menu to order from the day before. In the morning we walked down to the dining room, we had a table reserved and already set up with breads, fruits, etc. Once we sat down the warm foods and drinks were brought to us. Really well done, and I'm sure is a lot more work for the hotel, but we really appreciated it! Would totally love to stay here again and would recommend this hotel to all my friends traveling to Zermatt.

We spent a few days at the Hotel Phoenix in July 2020. The room size was fairly standard, but stylishly decorated and well thoght through. There was good lighting - even for reading in bed, and no ugly wires hanging down from the TV! There was a small balcony, well separated from the others, we even there we had privacy.
The breakfast buffet was closed due to Corona, but the hotel staff prepared the breakfast to order on a tray. There was a very nice selection of food and drink, and the staff made sure that everyone had exactly what they wanted. Coffee very good, so were the eggs.
The proprietors and staff were all without exception friendly and helpful.
The hotel has a very attractive cosy bar area, and offers access to an adjacent private gym. The gym is extemely well equipped and free for guests to use. Unfortunately they don't open early in the morning.
Whole-hearted and unreserved recommendation!

We loved the warm hospitality in this hotel. The hosts took great care and attention in explaining everything; the breakfast dishes, the key attractions in town, etc...

We loved everything;
1) delicious soup
2) super fast WiFi
3) warm comfortable room
4) view of the Matterhorn from our bedroom
5) rain shower
6) huge room

Taxi fare to this hotel is CHF17 for a couple with luggages, but if you booked the taxi for arrival and departure to the train station it's only CHF10.

We stayed 2 times and loved both a balcony room and regular room. The hotel is very well managed, so everything is nice, clean and processes work smoothly. The hotel manager impressed us with her back country knowledge, providing 3 choices for reaching a hut we planned to visit. The location is close to the town center but also in a very quiet location where you can open your windows at night to let in the cool, clean mountain air and hear the nearby stream. The breakfast buffet was great, high quality items and plenty of variety. Delicious coffee and my wife had 3 of the soft boiled eggs.

Absolutely lovely - super friendly staff on reception were quick to reorganize our room when they realized I had asked for 2 bed configuration but it hadn't made it on to their prep list. Rooms were very clean and staff seemed to really enjoy their jobs. Lots of options at breakfast!
Notes - it is a solid 10 minute walk from the train station including a bit of a hill at the end so if that's a concern ask them to pick you up from the station.
The provided shampoo is super small - I'm sure they would have given us more if we asked but we didn't need it.
Matterhorn view from balcony was terrific!

Reasonably priced, due to its location but easy 10min walking access to all local food and shops and Gornergratbahn. A taxi from Zermatt main station is CHF 21 in case you arrive after 6pm.
Clean aesthetics in rooms - all wood furniture locally sourced, nice sized balcony, daily room service, we’re able to adjust temperature as needed, small sized standing only shower (no tub) which is fine but if you have frame of an rugby player or an American footballer - it will be tight, really really nice breakfast, including the bright room where it’s served and selection of local cheeses , fruits, coffee/juices and muesli.
The view of Matterhorn was a bit of a stretch - book the rooms with bay windows if that’s a dealbreaker.
The payment is taken upfront at check in.
Will definitely recommend as an option away from main thoroughfare.

My wife and I stayed at the Phoenix for 3 nights in mid September. We initially booked a standard room but had a option to upgrade to a room with balcony on the Matterhorn side. Needless to say it was well worth the view! In addition to the balcony our room had two single beds and met all of our needs. The hotel was a easy 5-10 minute walk once you get off the train. The hospitality was excellent and the reception desk was very helpful. Breakfast provided many options and my wife really enjoyed the high end coffee and drink machine! As a passive coffee drinker myself I was even impressed. Hotel is in a great location and we had no problem getting around town for shopping and restaurants. Tip if your planning on doing the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise just follow the river toward the Matterhorn and you will eventually see signs for the first of 3 lifts to the top. Was about a 10-15 minute easy walk from hotel.

My family stayed at Hotel Phoenix for two weeks between Christmas and New Years and we had a wonderful time. Everything exceeded our expectations - breakfast buffet, condition of the hotel, cleanliness of rooms, service, etc. All of the staff members were extremely welcoming. The lounge on the main floor offers happy hour every day with complimentary slices of cake. The fitness center is very large and fully equipped - great for guests who like to workout in addition to skiing. I highly recommend this beautiful hotel and can't wait to go back!

For us it was an amazing time and we look back on it very fondly. The hotel in my mind is just about perfect, feels very new and modern but having all of the touches of Swiss craftsmanship and precision. A really nice sized hotel, on the smaller side which was great for the personal aspect, and kept amazingly clean. The staff was awesome, we enjoyed them immensely. For us the continental breakfast was amazing, the kids loved getting up in the morning before skiing and going to the breakfast buffet, there is so much there and it was so good it was one of my daughter's highlights, we were still discovering new foods on our final day there.

For us I would call the hotel's location about perfect (see a trend here ha), it was located about a 10 min walk from the train station, so in a quiet neighborhood, and about a 10 min walk from the heart of the town's main restaurants (though some were almost next door). The location was perfect to start your first day of skiing with the Sunnegga Funicular a few minutes walk away. A great ski rental shop two blocks away, and the ski bus (free, and ferrying you as far as the base of Matterhorn Paradise gondolas), also just two blocks away.

The room exceeded our expectations, great town view and size and the staff was very accommodating. Night photo was taken on the street right above the hotel. We will return!

The “taxi’s” are like little 4 seater busses.. I felt ripped off with charge of 16 franc to take us a short stop to the hotel. But I’m told this is the set, fixed fee. I did note the hotel can pick up and drop off for 5 frank each? We didn’t know on the way to hotel checking in, (perhaps ask?) but did use it on checkout to go to the train station.

Do you offer gluten free and nut free breakfast options?
Zermatt, Switzerland
Glutenfree bread is offered upon request. It is not on the breakfast buffet so it does not mix with the other breads we offer. On our buffet breakfast we also offer local cheeses, boiled eggs, sausage, cold cuts fruit etc. Therefore you can just take what you are allowed to eat.

Dear Heidi By car you can drive only to Täsch (5km away from Zermatt). Zermatt is carfree. The car can be accommodated in one of many parking garages. A shuttle train will take you to Zermatt every 20 minutes. Alternatively, you can also take a taxi between Täsch and Zermatt. Kind regards, Team Hotel Phoenix Zermatt
