Comfortable bed, extra pillows in the cupboards, enormous room, beautiful view but balcony has no sun in the morning, warm. However it really is run down and that is not made up for in charm and therefore it is very overpriced. Huge old bath (but no plug so you can’t enjoy it) with a shower attachment over it that you have to hold in your hand to wash your hair. So many doors off the room that led to other closed doors! However you can hear people in neighbouring rooms. With COVID-19 it was nice to be able to have the breakfast in your room (09.30 latest time you can have it) and the sparrows joining you on the balcony are sweet! You can hear the trains but not too bad. Cannot get hold of reception or housekeeping on the phone late in the evening. Covid-19 measures were good and reassuring. Staff courteous and helpful - you can park free on the quiet street outside until 07.00 and with a blue disk timer can leave it free there for a further 3 hours. Montreux city tax is exorbitant at 8 CHF per person per day but I guess the city has to play for the flowers on the lakeside somehow. Breakfast is OK but nothing special (I have uploaded photos). Would probably look for another hotel next time also with a lake view balcony rather than this one.

I would really recommend this hotel. It was our second time staying here and we loved it! Perfect location in walking distance to the centre of the town and lake. Friendly staff, big swimming pool, relaxing spa where we both got 30 minute massages (well worth it). Every room has a lake view where you can get your breakfast delivered up as room service, making for the perfect morning views ( attaches b is a picture) We also ate in the restaurant this time and the food and it’s presentation was amazing.

All round a very relaxing and pleasant stay. We will definitely be back for our third time!

The hotel is a wonderful quality building, that has retained it's charm from earlier days. The rooms are light and airy, with ornate plater ceilings, and French windows opening onto the balcony overlooking the lake. Old fashioned wooden French windows with quality espaliers at that! Spacious bathroom with shower over the bath with glass splash shield, plenty of pressure. In the evening a live pianist in the bar, with a good selection of drinks including whiskey, at reasonable prices (for a Brit in Switerland) Five minutes walk from the town, with a punctual and regular bus service, free with the pass you get as a guest.

This was a superb place to stay and I would be back like a shot of ever in Montreux again!

We had a very pleasant stay in this hotel for four nights in august. Though not every aspect of the hotel is brand new, it still has a luxurious atmospere. We had quite a spacious room, with enough room for luggage and storage for clothes and a vintage style bathroom. The bed was soft and I slept like a rose in it. The cherry on the top of it all was the balcony with a view on lake Geneva. I spent quite some hours there enjoying the view. Kept making photograph's of the ever changing lightfall on the lake and surrounding mountains.
The hotelstaff is very friendly and eager to help.

Though I did not use it, the area to have breakfast seems quite oké, and there is enough space in the hall to relax, if you wish to do so. On the third floor there is a swimmingpool, a fitness area and a sauna. Be sure to ask directions from the staff because I haven’t been able to find it myself. The hotel also offers different types of massages. The wifi is working well.

The hotel itself is located on the famous boulevard of Montreux about a 15 minutes walk from the bussier touristic part. The surrounding area is therefore quite quiet with the sound of many birds to enjoy. The entrance of the hotel is not situated on the boulevard, but on a road parrallel to it somewhat higher up. To reach the boulevard you can descend one of the nearby stairs. For us not a problem but for people with difficulty walking this might pose a problem. Speaking of walking, it is only a 25 minutes walk to chateau Chillon, a very pleasant walk at that. At 10 minutes walking you can find a supermarket (Coop).

The cost of the hotel room is comparable to other hotel rooms in Switzerland, yet you get more value for your CHF here.

All in all we had a great stay at this hotel and can wholeheartedly recommend it.

This was our second visit and in fact we enjoyed it so much we managed to get an extra 2 days at this calm hotel right on the lake. All rooms face the lake and have high airy ceilings, it is great to just sit on the balcony and watch the steamers pass by.

Superb Olympic size indoor pool, which has a garden and sun loungers facing the lake.

The hotel does not have a car park, but the road it is in is near enough just for access to the Hotel, with plenty of FREE parking over night plus 3 hours during the day. All you need to do is move the car a few spaces and change the dial, you never get a ticket!

Excellent hotel, at a quiet end of the Montreux boulevard. Lots of good health, beauty and wellness facilities. Friendly and professional staff. The hotel rooms offer a great view over the lake and mountains. Food and quality of the food are of high standard. I always look forward to the breakfast buffet, because of the variety of fresh artisan bread, fruit and cheeses. There is a beautiful indoor swimming pool and outdoor sun lounge area. The hotel is situated with direct access to the boulevard and lake. Both Chateau de Chillon and Montreux city centre are at walking distance, also public transport is easily accessible.

Quality of service and room were excellent. Patients with queries and detailed instructions were brilliant. Menus were varied and food great. Location was near bus, train and fronting the lake made the promenade easy to use. The Riviera Card made travel no cost, great benefit.

We arrived a little too early so we left our bags at the office which was very convenient. Everybody was very helpful & friendly. After a walk around Montreux we came back to check-in which only took us about 5’ great! Our suite was quite pleasant with a beautiful garden right infront of the lakeside. We reserved for wellness so we looked for our bathrobes but we couldn’t find any. Some cool english folks told us that we had to get them at the reception… That was a bit disappointing because we had to go back and get them… Wellness part is very disappointing and old. It‘s nothing like wellness really… My girlfriend wanted to take a hot bath but there was no plug to stop the water from draining… So we just showered and those showers are so old that I refused to wash my hair because it would have took ages! The hallways smell like 500 years… And the walls in the rooms are very thin… I was a bit disappointed for what we paid!

My favouritve hotel in Montreux. I have stayed here several times. This time I was here during Montreux Jazz festival.

The hotel is a typical classic Swiss waterfront hotel, however it is not restored to 100% perfection. There are still some old cracks and noises which is exactly what I like.

This time I had af family room on the ground floor. It has plenty of space, two bathrooms and a terrace with direct access to the garden and only a few steps from the lake.

Staff in the hotel is very friendly and breakfast is very good with great views over the lake if you are lucky.

There are only a few hotel parking spots but there is public parking on the road and also parking garages in walking distance which have electric car charging.

We come to the "Hotel du Grand Lac Excelsior" every summer and enjoy the ambiance and the great service there.

As one of our family members is disabled and uses a wheelchair, the hotel is just perfect for us.

"Hotel du Grand Lac Excelsior" is not just a hotel, but THE HOTEL in Montreux.

We look forward to our next stay at the Hotel du Grand Lac Excelsior.

Best regards,
Garosi

Get the train to St. Maurice or Brig from Geneva Airport and get off at Montreux. No telling exactly which train unless you mention a time.
