Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is one of several Swiss Star properties in Zurich. On Booking, it's called Swiss Star Guesthouse District 4. TripAdvisor doesn't make the correct link. It's located directly behind the Brauerhof, which also has rooms available (Swiss Star Brewery). None of the Swiss Star properties have a reception. When you make a reservation, you'll be invited to check in online. At the property, you check in through a machine. By simply entering your key code, you'll receive your room keys. There is no elevator, so you'll have to carry your luggage up the stairs. Reviews suggest that the rooms come in different sizes, even though they're all the same price. I must have drawn the short straw, as my room was positively tiny. I didn't have a desk, so I had to use my laptop on the bed. I didn't even have a chair. The free Internet comes courtesy of an external provider (Monzoon). The credentials to check in are displayed on the wall. Since the property is located in a party neighborhood (close to the famous Langstrasse), the rooms can be noisy at night, especially on weekends. Ironically, the party people in the street are less of a nuisance than the addicts doing drugs outside the property.

The area is Zurich’s rld very crowded and noisy especially in the weekend. Room was good and clean everything worked just fine and we were really happy with the amount of money we paid for it . Good choice if you’re on a budget

Stayed here during my short stay in Zurich. I chose this guesthouse for its good value for the money and its proximity to the Zurich HB. The wifi was good and room was neat & clean. Though I didn't like the neighborhood, too noisy for me during night.

First of all, beware that not all rooms are the same size. For the same price, you can get a room of a decent size or a room the size of a match case. More than this, the common toilet is a disaster, very dirty and with various degrees of defects (sink was not working, for example). Also, beware that this is located in the Red Light District of Zurich which, besides the fact that it's very populated and noisy during the night, could bring you, as neighbours, some more than dubious characters (prostitution is legal is CH, by the way). My advice would be to add an extra 40-50 CHF and stay somewhere better, Zurich has a lot of option from which to choose from.

We stayed at the swiss star Guesthouse ( District 4 ) apartments in Zurich for 2 nights in december, the apartments are situated only a 15 minute walk from Zurich HB, so a good location for traveling around town, but the area is not the nicest but we always felt safe. The room was nice, it was a bit on the small side and being on the top floor, the roof cutting into the room was a bit irritating but not a major issue. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and well equipped. The bathroom was small but they did provide soap, body wash and shampoo. One more issue but not major was only 1 of the 4 windows had curtains, but being on the top floor was not a problem. We would recomend staying at these apartments if you want to do Zurich on a budget, for 2 nights the price was £139. If you dont have a budget then maybe look for somewhere different.

We needed somewhere cheap and within walking distance of the railway station, and for this, the guesthouse was fine. It is not staffed - you are emailed an access code, which you type in to a box at the entrance hall and you are dispensed the key. The room was clean, had everything we needed, plenty of towels and toiletries. The room was very warm - there is no air conditioning, but we knew that in advance. With the windows open and ear plugs if you are light sleeper, it was fine for a night. Given how expensive Zurich is, this was a bargain as a place to sleep for a night.

First up, when you pay money to stay in any room, no matter hotel, apartment or airbnb, you expect the room to be clean. But, ours wasn't. There was half eaten chocolate some hair clips, etc of previous person who stayed in the room. Our room was nothing what looked in photos. It was damn too small with not even a place for them to install TV. They places TV in the side on a table which is you want to watch, you have to move on your own to the front of the bed. The room was so small that i wondered why they even kept a dressing table and chair which given the size of room was occuying more space then of any help. The bed was pretty small for a double bed and the pillows were pretty soft like you cant feel them under your head. The wifi requires that you have a phone connection on which you can receive SMS. Normally, I dont activate international roaming on my phone, luckily this time I enabled the international roaming which enabled me to get SMS. Moreover, the SMS from their website is not received in one go. They leave it on you on deciding how to enter number like 0065 or +65 or just 65. Even you enter tired in a hotel room and just want things to be frustating, you may find these things pretty frustating. Like other Swiss hotels, there is no fan or AC in the room but we went to Zurich in summer and this hotel is not close to train station. So, coming from train station to this hotel, we were feeling pretty sweaty and hot. So, we felt pretty uneasy in the hotel room. The next thing you would do is to open up the windows, but the windows on one side was too close to another apartment that the people saying in that apartment can almost see everything you do, even with curtains we weren't feeling the privacy because of closeness of apartment. On the another side there was parking leading upto the main road which has couple of not so elegant bars and restaurants. So, there is constant noise that comes from the street. In terms of bathroom, the shower space was too small to fit and the glass doors were almost falling off. Moroever, they didnt even provide basic things like a towel in the bathroom. Luck for us, we were carrying one amongst two of us to use during the two day stay there. Also, since this is apartment stay, so dont expect that in multiple days of your stay anyone is going to come and clean the room like you would imagine if you were to stay in hotel room. Lastly, there is no lift in the apartment. So, if you are international traveller, carrying big luggage bags, then be prepared to carry the bags up and down the stairs with you.

Very nice place in relation to the situation and the price. You're in the centre of the city and it just takes 5 minutes by foot to go to the central station and Bahnhofstraße. Everything was clean and it's more than enough for a couple of days. I wouldn't search for another thing if I visit Zurich again!

We had a huge room with nearly everything you need-no glasses or coffee cups main downside. Easy walking distance to the train station, we left our luggage in lockers there it was really easy and convenient. Would recommend for anyone staying a night in Zurich

Location - The property is right in the middle of the red light district. This was very intimidating, especially for my wife. As we neared the Guesthouse,we observed a heavily increased police presence. Two seperate incidents where people were being searched by Police. Barbed wire around some of the premises nearby. Numerous sex shops on the street & several ' unsavoury looking characters ' on the street. On top of that there were very high noise levels from street level activity all night long & well into the morning. The room - our room , I think it was ' number 4 ' was a tiny corner room & seemingly much smaller than the ones featured in your website. The fridge didn't work, the TV didn't work, the bedside light didn't work. There were no curtains on the window & we were directly overlooked by the property across the street. There was no air conditioning & as it was extremely hot ,we had to open all the windows. This was only of mnor assistance in cooling the room & the downside was that it only made the loud external noise even more audible. The floor was dirty and when my wife accidentally dropped some clothes on the floor, they were almost black with dust when she picked them up. Clearly no effort has been made to clean the room properly ,in advance & to ensure that all electronics were working. The bathroom was fine but it was the only acceptable aspect of the whole place. Needless to say,we had a sleepless night, sweating heavily all night in the ferociously warm room & my wife couldn't sleep anyway with woorry that there would be trouble or that one of the unsavoury characters might gain access to our building. The fact that there was no reception meant there was no one to speak to about our problems. Another guest that we met who had problems accessing his keys apparently rang numerous times to the allocated phone number but got no answer so we didn't see any point wasting our time ,calling an unattended phone We would never have rented this room if the true nature of the location had been clearly flagged and even if that was the case, there was absolutely no excuse of the room. We stayed in 6 different hotels in Switzerland/Italy during our trip & this was the only problematic one.
