Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely friendly staff... Willing to answer questions and give advice on the area. Cute Swiss chocolate and A beer incl. in price.... Handy location, close enough to walk to the city centre... Comfy bed , not too loud. Pretty cool hostel. 👍🏻

Pros: comfy beds, big lockers (bring your own lock or rent them from reception), close to the city (walking is possible if you're cutting costs), plugs at all beds, GREAT wifi, clean bathrooms, luggage store after checkout, free drink each night (you can't 'save' your drinks for 1 night, you have to have one per day), friendly staff. Cons: LOUD! Even on non party nights - bring ear plugs or don't sleep. Was also pretty hot with no aircon nor fan.

So I have no idea where that picture of the map wall was taken that makes this place seem so quaint and nice, it's rather an average bar with average rooms upstairs. I was unable to charge my things while I slept because the plug in the locker didn't work. Didn't have a pillow when I got back one night. Oh and did I mention that it is in the red light district? Yeah forget about sleep. The noise came in straight through the window. I might as well have slept on a bed roll in a subway station like a homeless guy.

Zurich isn't well off for hostels so if you can't get in the HI place, or don't want to pay its prices, then Langstars offers the main alternative. Unfortunately, in terms of cost alone, you're not going to save a great deal by coming to Langstars. I know this is Switzerland, which doesn't do cheap, but Langstars' charges are outrageous considering that it's pretty basic and that it's located in a red light district which must have a higher concentrations of prostitutes per head of population than any other European city. Well, they do warn you about that - or should do. Good points: clean bathrooms and toilets, cafe downstairs, food shops nearby, lots of plugs and charging points, cozy common room upstairs, outdoor balcony. Bad points: cost (not sure how anyone can describe this place as cheap), no dedicated bike lock-ups (they advise you to carry them upstairs to the balcony!), tiny kitchen (more of a sink with a fridge and microwave) balcony was a mess of overflowing ashtrays and stacked furniture, noise all night into morning at weekends, seedy street scene. And did I mention cost? The cafe staff were obviously keen to get my payment to stay upon arrival but the guy didn't even bother to say 'thanks - hope you enjoyed your stay' when I checked out. You notice things like that. It's good to know Langstars is available but I'll probably favour the HI hostel next time I'm in Zurich.

Quite cheap place, really well located great for you that wants to save money to other stuff . The lows. Im here no during the summer so the room was quite warm, lots of noise coming from the street and there is no 24h reception. So make sure you come before 23:00.

By now I've forgotten the name of our kiwi bartender as it's been over a month, but I promised him to write so here we go. We stayed at the hostel for one night only, but with so great people meeting us in the reception/bar they made it memorable. Yes, the rooms very a little tight and only the one bathroom on the floor, but who travels to spend their time in their hostel room? Go hang out in the bar instead. You can easily walk to the hostel from the train station, but if your bag is too heavy there is a bus you can catch. before we went back to the train in the morning we had New Zealand coffee and it's seriously the best coffee I've ever had(then again I very rarely drink coffee, so I'm no expert). Thank you so much for the excellent service, I'll be back next time I go to Zürich!

I stayed in the room for 6 and it was far too compact even though only 4 of us were staying in there at the time. My backpack did not fit into the lockers provided so I had to leave it in front of the persons bed below me, making the room even smaller. I believe there was also only one shared bathroom for all of us females which is not ideal when there were so many of us. They also have no laundry facilities. The female staff member was very nice. Pretty good location; close to the city centre but tough walk to and from the station especially if you have a heavy load on your back so it would be a good idea to take a taxi or bus..but be prepared to pay big $$$. Bring an average sized lock for the lockers.

The reception is in a bar, what makes me guess it's not 24hour but after you get your key you don't have to worry. The location is great. I went walking from the main station. I was in six bed mix dorm. There was a small kitchen next to the dormitory and a common room. Only one mixed toilet on that floor that wasn't so clean. The power plug were located inside a big wooden 'box' where you're supposed to leave your luggage and lock it (with your own padlock). I didn't see any elevators, so if going up about some flights of stairs is a problem for you, beware. Bottomline, I've been in way better hostels around Europe paying way less (it was CHF 50 for one night), but you can't expect lower prices in Switzerland.

This is the place for backpackers located only 10 minutes from the center It's basic, but clean. You have lockers, sheets and towel included. Good (and free) wifi in the dormitory. Except noisy surrounding in weekend nights. You can enjoy the live music in the cafe bar downstairs. For families this is not a good option
