Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wonderful old building from around 1900 at the edge of beautiful woods with pleasant walking paths. The hotel owners over the years managed to leave the old charm intact and resist over-renovation, so the atmosphere feels very authentic, even in the restaurant wing that was built in later years. The restaurant has an old-fashioned high-ceilinged but cozy Dutch character. Bedrooms: ask for one of the bedrooms with high ceilings if you like old-fashioned patrician-style charm. We did suggest more choice of pillows as pillows were quite hard. But we slept very well and will gladly return when in this part of the Netherlands.

The location of the hotel is lovely. Unfortunately it is not a 4 star hotel. We stayed in a room that had a jacuzzi tub that didn't work and also a trouser press that didn't work. When we spoke to reception they said the reason was that it wasn't a comfort room ( so it seems they just charge less for the room rather than repairing it). One particular member of staff was particularly rude to me when I asked some questions about the menu at dinner so could understand options for my child, actually walking away in the middle of me still trying to understandthe options. Had we an alternative restaurant to eat at nearby I would have left immediately. We had to change room on the final night and paid the reception (2 previous nights rate had included breakfast) there was no mention that this rate didn't include breakfast, on check out they charged us for breakfast with no apology when suggested they should have made this clear during the payment of the room. The comfort room while big was unclean, the bath had hair in it and cobwebs on the ceiling. The hotel in general feels like it needs a good clean. The charm of it being an old hotel shouldn't mean they don't maintain it well. I will not stay here again.

My room (121) was huge, with its own living area, desk, two arm chairs in 1930s style aged, brown leather, and a bathroom big enough to be a bedroom in a London budget hotel. The front desk staff were friendly, and the whole place oozes heritage and charm, but the wifi is excellent. The corridors are a little noisy and my room had a wooden floor so the sound carried. The ceiling was extra high too, with elegant curtains. The shower was powerful and warm. My only disappointment was breakfast which was a little sparse with dried out scrambled eggs and a more two or three star selection. No complaints otherwise.

We often stroll around Mastboss with the family and sometimes stop by the hotel to get a small bite for to go. We once had a week-long team meeting there with my company. This time we were passing by and my younger son was thirsty. We stopped by the hotel’s take away spot and asked for a small glass of tap water. The lady at the counter informed us that they only have water for sale. I understand the rational of running the businessman don’t have problem paying 2,5 EUR for water, but I was asking for a glass of water for a kid. Anyway, apparently customer service is something that the hotel will disregard if there is a 2,5 EUR sales opportunity. I will make sure I will never use any services of this hotel/restaurant.

Response from Mastbosch Team, Gastenservice/Front Office at Hotel Mastbosch Breda
Responded 22 Feb 2021
Good afternoon Alexey, We genuinely regret that you have experienced your visit in this way. Given the current situation regarding corona, we are forced to charge a fee for our services for a change. In all sincerity, every meter and every euro counts right now. You indicate that you have been a guest with us before and that this has always been satisfactory. Therefore, we think it is remarkable that you choose to discredit us in such a way. We appreciate your input, but we were hoping for a little more understanding from our guests in these troubled times. We look forward to seeing you again. Sincerely, Management Hotel Mastbosch Breda

A wonderful historical hotel, there have been appropriate modern upgrades, while maintaining the charm In good weather there is a delightful outdoor patio for dinning. Just across the street from a lovely park. Service was very efficient.

The room we had was dirty. Bloodstain on the wall, holes in the carpeting, hairs and mold in the shower. It says 4 stars but this was nowhere near a 4 star experience. Had to pay €95 for a dirty, poorly maintained room. When I told the lady at the desk she said the manager would contact me a.s.a.p. but I never heart from them again. No way I'll ever stay here again.

Top Hotel. Nice, decent and polite and service minded staff. I checked in real late and in fact the bar was closed. But they served me a beer and, because the bar was closed, did not charge the beer, In the morning i had to leave early but the reception was open and staffed by a nice helpfull person. The hotel itself is beautifull and also beautifull located; near the centre of Breda andnext to e little forest.

Location is great, Breda on one side and Mastbos on the other side. Service was good as well. But the building it self is out dated. The hotel needs an intensive renovation. Room prices suggest first class comfort. We didn't find it.
