A friendly welcome, the rooms are in adjacent buildings.
We had a room on the first floor, the stairs are a bit narrow and steep.
The beds are a bit soft for our taste, but the climate in the room is good
and the sanitary facilities are new. We didn't have breakfast.

You go in the bar to sign in and rooms are a couple of doors down - room I had didnt have ensuite but had own wc/shower opposite. Basic - double bed in a converted feront room - clean tidy nowt flash but at 57 euros inc a very good breakfast it was value.
Whilst it was opposite the station i disagree with previous review - the area was not rough or frightening - far from it.
Recommend for budget types who wanta bed and a tv and shower but not looking to spend all day in there room
Negatives, lack of pillows only able to give us one, the rooms are very basic no tea & coffee facilities. The breakfast lacked choices only cold meats & a lack of cereals. it would have been nice to have had a choice of hot breakfast on some days. I was on the ground floor and as it was so hot we didn't even have a fan, and did not feel safe opening the window all night. I was quite disappointed at not having a balcony room as this is advertised on bookings.com site and it is evident that this is not the case for all rooms. It would have been nice to have a reception/lounge area, with grounds that you can sit and relax and not on the pavement outside on the main road. The stairs to the upstairs in the hotel are very steep so not good for people with mobility problems. I felt that this was more like a small guest house rather than a hotel. Also be careful when booking this via booking.com as there is a cancellation charge, which I was not aware off when booking and the hotel will not waiver this, this is also a reason why I was not able change my booking when I discovered much more updated hotels. If you are looking for a base in this area, then this hotel is fine. If you are looking for comfort and leisure this is not the place.
Good points are the staff are nice, the hotel lounge is lovely, The hotel is conveniently placed for transport links. All in all the room I was in was not wotrth the money. I don't know about the other rooms, But I think they need to up their game quite a bit before I would be back.
I knew they were near the train station, so that wasn't a surprise, but they are right across from it, and that added with the other problems made us decide to look elsewhere for accomodations. First of all, we couldn't find a place to park, so my daughter drove around while I went in. I didn't find a door for the hotel proper, but the hotel bar was visible and I went in there and asked how to get into the hotel. The barmaid told me that I was in it and I asked where I'd check in, and she said right here, in the bar. I asked about the parking and she told me that it was €1.80 per hour from 9am-8pm and no charge the rest of the time. I asked about the €4 parking I'd been told about and she told me it was down the street.
She went outside and pointed out to me where it was, and it was waaaaaay down there! It would be bad enough with just our luggage, but we also had baby stuff to carry. My daughter told me she didn't feel safe staying there and I agreed, the area around the station looked pretty trashy. Now, the woman at the hotel I spoke with was very nice, but I would not recommend this to someone with children or someone who had a vehicle. It might be just fine for you though if you don't have a ton of stuff to lug around or aren't traveling with children. I don't know that I would stay here if I was traveling alone either.
If you can find another hotel, use it instead.
We had booked room for five days, but wanted to leave as soon as we where shown our room. Badly ventilated and no aircondition.
What a delightful Hotel... now under new ownership. The room (No. 22) was very modern with a wet room, and high quality bathroom furniture... a very comfortable bed and small balcony/fire escape on which I enjoyed the fine June weather whilst I used the free wi-fi (high speed and easy to access).
It only took a 10 minute stroll to the center of Town and the lovely cafes along the canal..... was distracted to go to the Cheese Museum, the Beer Museum and the slightly bizarre but recommended Beatles Museum (which was on my stroll into town).
There were on or two very slight niggles but that would be 'nit-picking' on such a friendly, good-value hotel i.e. the first floor stairs are very steep and narrow and would not be ideal if climbing stairs is a problem (not me) of one had heavy, bulky luggage (not me)... ask for a ground floor room in that case.
Breakfast was good with a plentiful supply of freshly squeezed orange juice and a fair selection of cheeses, hams, eggs and breads.
I highly recommend this excellent, small, family run hotel and will return again with my wife for a holiday to enjoy Alkmaar more and will definitely stay at the Stad en Land
"Choose a room in the back and on a ground floor as there isn't an elevator and the train station is across the street. Quiet room however"Read full review
