If you fancy treading in the footsteps of 17th Dutch merchants and the artists who painted them, then staying in a canal house in Old Amsterdam can be very rewarding so long as you expect small bedrooms, steep stairs (no lifts) and a bit of extra cost for the privilege of an authentic experience. With a few canal house short stays under my belt, the Dutch Masters Luxury apartments at 580 Keizergracht really stand out. Three of us stayed in the Johannes Vermeer apartment with its spectacular open-plan living space overlooking the canal. This comprises a well-equipped kitchen for self-catering, a lovely dining area, and large lounge where you can gaze out the windows and pretend you're living in one of the huge Vermeer printed canvases which grace the walls. The compromise is two small bedrooms (the smaller of the two being very tight) but they both contain large and comfortable beds which - for us anyway - is all we ever need for a good night's sleep. The location is quiet and perfect for exploring on foot, but also close to public transport. The staff are friendly and accommodating and answer any queries very promptly. If I visit Amsterdam again, I wouldn't go anywhere else. …

We really enjoyed our stay here. The apartment had everything we needed and it was in a great location. Easy access to the trams and all the beautiful scenery in Amsterdam. We especially enjoyed using the courtyard for some time to relax and unwind. We hope to return to this great apartment!

Everything was perfect. Communications were easy and Christel was quick and superkind in answering all our questions. She was there waiting for us with the keys and we could have an early check-in that was superhelpful. The apartment (Rembrandt) is lovely, beds are comfortable, the view over the canal is romantic and beautiful, location is fantastic, the apartment has all the amenities including washing machine/drier/nespresso etc. It was a bit expensive but worth it. We would definitely come back. Thanks Christel!

Well maintained and well located apartment. The person looking after the apartment was great too. Recommended. The photos of the apartment we saw were a good reflection of what the apartment was like. Walking distance from most central attractions and close to multiple tram lines too.

Our apartment was Jeroen Bosh We were granted early check in, which was really appreciated after some 24 hours travelling. Christal met us at the apartment and explained how to use the appliances as well as the apartment security. The apartment was spotless and well maintained, a start package with coffee ,tea milk and biscuits was waiting or us. Bedding and furniture was of good quality and suitable for the apartment We, had access to a beautiful garden which was a plus after a busy day sightseeing. Nice to share a nice wine and nibbles away from the hustle and bustle of the city . There are maps and discount vouchers in the lobby of the apparent complex. Any issues we had were promptly seen to by Michael. The apartment is well located within walking distance of cafes and museums, a small supermarket is close by for some on going essentials. Dutch masters is within easy walking distance to a Tram stop to/from Amsterdam Centraal station, I recommend using the partner taxi service Jongsma Taxi from Schiphol airport. The streets in Amsterdam are congested with bikes and are uneven which makes dragging a suitcase difficult. We found the service provided by Jongsma Taxis well worth the extra cost. If/when we return to Amsterdam in the future we will once again stay at Dutch Masters. Cristal and her team are a credit to the organization. Very comfortable, beautiful decor, perfectly located and very quick response to any needs on behalf of the staff. I would have given five stars, but that means perfect and nothing is perfect. That said, any issue or question we had, was answered or dealt with immediately.

All in all we enjoyed staying in the Johannes Vermeer apartment. It is well equipped and comfortable. The second bedroom is up an extremely steep and narrow staircase. The window in this bedroom opens onto an internal hallway, not to outside light and air. The apartment building is well situated for walking to many tourist sites.

Excellent central location - tram stop close by. Close to museums and restaurants. Very comfortable apartment (lots of stairs up to the top floor!) and we loved the roof terrace in the Karel Appel apartment. Staff were helpful and very easy to deal with.

Look no further if you're looking for a VBRO/AirBNB experince without the hassle and risk. We had the Vermeer apartment which was well apponted and very comfortabel, Beds were divine. The location is perfect, in the posh canal house area area, just around the corner from the Golden Bend. The Dutch Masters team was 1000% responsive to all our many question and requests. We used their car service several times as well - very strong recoemmend.
