I took bus 397, you can buy tickets on the bus right out front of the airport. It was about 40 mins. You get off at the Museumplein stop and its a 3 minute walk from there. It was all very easy.

I'm not quite sure where Amstelveen is in relation to the hotel but I can tell you that for our first time being in Amsterdam, We had easy access to the trolley's, not far of a walk at all, and they are easy to understand in terms of having to transfer from trolley to trolley. The front desk employees are quite helpful. Andre even mapped out our route for us on a map! Safe travels!
