Absolutely shocking. A smelly room, with no double glazing on the windows. In the winter months, prepare to freeze. The carpets smell very bad as if they have never been cleaned. Slow, sometimes non-existent internet connection. In no way is this anything like a 4 star hotel, it would be good value if it presented itself as a budget motel....

Very friendly and welcoming hotel. Breakfast is very good with organic youghurt, good variety of cold cuts and local cheeses. Scrambled eggs were also so creamy and soft. I am not friend of fitted carpets and didn't like it here either. Would like more to have floors made from real wood. No complaints about the room. It was clean, quiet...

The hotel is well located, just on the side of the city center where you can walk easily. My single room was a bit small, but like as in many others hotel in the city. Clean, warm, good quality. Breakfast is a bit expensive.

We stayed at Jan Luijken for a long weekend, we were pleasantly surprised at the quality for the price. The service was impeccable, rooms perfect, location second to none. Right next to all the best museums.

Our third visit. Chosen because of its location close to the Van Gogh museum- nice shopping street behind; a canal cruise stop nearby and good restaurants. So close to the 197 bus stop from the airport. Comfortable hotel and very welcoming staff.

The location of the hotel is really perfect! You will be right in the middle of the museum district and the tram is just around the corner. There are also many bars, restaurants and a super market. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our room was quite big and very clean. The breakfast is fantastic. It's served until 10:30...

Stayed in superior room with breakfast inkluded. Took some time before we figured out the heating, but when that was done we were happy with the room. Thou the bathroom was a bit on the chill side. Breakfast was okey, but the selling point for us was the location, right in the museum district. Would love to come back

Though we weren't exactly the usual types staying at this hotel, the staff welcomed us straight off the bat and even guided us (in an awesome old style elevator with no door) to our room that had an amazing city view out of a roof top window. The room was spacious with an old-style twist, but the modernized bathroom made...

The hotel is situated in a side street but close to everything, especially all the designers stores, excellent shopping area. It's also within walking distance to everything - museums, city centre, tourists attractions. Hotel itself is on the "old" side, but clean and tidy. They do breakfast but not dinners. Water kettle and coffee machine are provided inside the rooms,...

We stayed here on our last night in Europe on a family Christmas holiday. Loved the hotel, and especially the location - walking distance from so many great museums and neighborhoods. Clean, quiet, comfortable rooms. Good breakfast with more variety than many we sampled - though not inexpensive. Would definitely consider for a future stay -- hopefully for more than...

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
