Due to time limitations we spent only one day at the Ambassade Hotel. It is a really fine place to stay. It is beautifully appointed, well-located, and the staff members were consistently professional and very helpful. Note also that the price was very reasonable. We stayed in a first floor room with a canal view. The room was beautifully decorated...

This is my 4th or 5th stay at Ambassade. I keep returning because the service is outstanding and the location is right in the heart of the most beautiful part of Amsterdam. Also, I am an author, and my book, along with 4,000 other books written by guests of the hotel, is in their newly renovated library. This visit, we...

This small hotel set in several historic, exceptionally restored houses along the canal brings together all the elements needed to enjoy and wonderful stay in Amsterdam. It is located in a quiet location in easy walking distance to most of what you will want to see in the city center. As others have mentioned, the staff was exceptional. They were...

We recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. Everything was great, the staff was exceptional. The room we stayed in was very quiet and comfortable. The only downside...we had a 5am pick up to the airport and I ordered coffee and snacks for us the night before. When our driver showed up the gentleman behind the desk ran to...

I love art - and this hotel is art in itself - the building - the art on the walls - the library and the great staff - and unique rooms with atmosphere! Our teenager got the most lovely room to herself in our triple suite. This is certainly a place with personality and it stands out as a great...

Loved this hotel. Everything was perfect. Staff are so friendly and lovely to chat to. Room was really comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Shower was amazing! Thoroughly enjoyed a game of chess in the impressive library, with a cocktail and some cheese! Couldn't have asked for more. Thanks to you all. Would definitely recommend and come again if...

As a disciple of Rick Steves, I can only echo his sentiments. A superb canal side splurge, but well worth the money. The interior is a tasteful art gallery pleasing to the eye. The bar and siting area are an oasis to a worn out traveler arriving from an overnight flight, as well as a delight to the traveler taking...

Great location, fantastic service, friendly and approachable staff, great food, scrupulously clean rooms and facilities, very comfy bed. Fantastic bar-library. Walking distance to all the main city attractions including the museum's quarter. Our room was a tad on the small side but great views and we weren't spending a lot of time there....Expensive, yes but worth it. Would not hesitate...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Over the years, the Ambassade Hotel has expanded considerably. Starting with just one canal-side building in 1953, it now has 57 hotel rooms distributed among 10 of these buildings. Eight of these canal-side homes are on the "Herengracht" canal, while two others are located on the "Singel" canal. Other buildings are in use by the Ambassade Hotel too, but for other purposes: a few houses further along the Herengracht is the hotel's Float & Massage Centre known as Koan Float and 150 meters further along the Singel canal you will find the hotel's conference room. Except for the building at 335 Herengracht, all the canal-side buildings are physically interconnected. So as not to unnecessarily damage the original character of these canal-side homes, small sets of stairs and landings can be found at various places in the halls and in some of the rooms themselves to bridge the differences in floor elevations between the buildings. Over the years, two lifts have been installed, making all rooms easily accessible. The Ambassade Hotel has a bar and restaurant/brasserie called 'Brasserie Ambassade' that specialises in the classical French kitchen. The canal houses have been carefully restored to maintain their authentic character and all rooms and suites have been stylishly furnished and decorated. The furnishings are predominantly Louis XV/XVI style with the use of colourful fabrics and in all rooms and public areas you will find original paintings by artists from the famous CoBrA movement. ... more   less
