The Ambassade is a lovely small hotel on a quiet street within easy walking distance of many of Amsterdam's museums and tourist sights and only a short walk to the tram which can take you to others. It is on the Herengracht which is one of the canals ringing the inner city and is made up of a number of...

The location of the hotel is near the city centre and easy to get around. The hotel was clean and the room as well. The staff was wonderful, helpful and appreciative of every guest there. They were more than happy to suggest places to go, how to get around and anything else. The bar there has a great story, all...

The hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful when we arrived. The room has it's own entrance, and was over two floors, which felt a little odd but it was comfortable and quiet. Couldn't fault it. The real highlight was the hotel bar, which is lined with books. It was wonderful to relax there with a coffee or a glass...

Beautiful hotel and such friendly staff. Room was quite a walk from the lift but we had a gorgeous canal view. Bathrooms were lovely. Plenty of storage. Breakfast was tasty. Excellent location for all tourist attractions - most within walking distance and plenty of fun places around to eat and drink. We would definitely return. However our first floor canal...

We had a room facing the Herengracht Canal which was picturesque but a little noisy at night. The hotel is both charming and business like providing a high degree of service. Loved the decor with is simple in the public rooms. If I return to Amsterdam, I would definitely stay here again.

We normally stay with a hotel facing the Singel. This hotel offered, although on the next canal had rooms facing the Singel - we took one. A wonderful room with full view of the canal. Short version is, would we book this hotel again - YES.

We have been staying at the Ambassade for more than fifteen years, I suppose, normally returning almost every year. We have tried one or two alternatives over the years but we always found ourselves returning to the Ambassade. We like the hotel for its location, its unique character and the fantastic level of comfort and service. Admittedly, you have to...

I was delighted with our choice of hotel. Beautiful and convenient spot, quiet, as per their own description, and very well appointed. Our triple room in the eaves was funky and comfortable, and the service was without fault. They even lent us a plug adaptor that I forgot to bring. The bar area downstairs was just right for a drink...

A collection of 10-or-so interlinked canal-side houses, the hotel spells quiet luxury from the moment you step through the door. Art adorning the walls, a mixture of classic and modern furniture filling the many rooms on the ground floor, a reassuring smattering of technology and amazingly helpful and friendly staff. The room was large, overlooking the canal; good bathroom with...

After a bare bones airbnb in Paris, Ambassade was a luxury experience. The hotel staff were extremely helpful, making dinner reservations for us and locating a store where I could buy a prepaid SIM card for my unlocked phone. After we left, 2 bottles of Johnny Walker were missing from the room refrigerator and were retroactively charged to my Visa....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Over the years, the Ambassade Hotel has expanded considerably. Starting with just one canal-side building in 1953, it now has 57 hotel rooms distributed among 10 of these buildings. Eight of these canal-side homes are on the "Herengracht" canal, while two others are located on the "Singel" canal. Other buildings are in use by the Ambassade Hotel too, but for other purposes: a few houses further along the Herengracht is the hotel's Float & Massage Centre known as Koan Float and 150 meters further along the Singel canal you will find the hotel's conference room. Except for the building at 335 Herengracht, all the canal-side buildings are physically interconnected. So as not to unnecessarily damage the original character of these canal-side homes, small sets of stairs and landings can be found at various places in the halls and in some of the rooms themselves to bridge the differences in floor elevations between the buildings. Over the years, two lifts have been installed, making all rooms easily accessible. The Ambassade Hotel has a bar and restaurant/brasserie called 'Brasserie Ambassade' that specialises in the classical French kitchen. The canal houses have been carefully restored to maintain their authentic character and all rooms and suites have been stylishly furnished and decorated. The furnishings are predominantly Louis XV/XVI style with the use of colourful fabrics and in all rooms and public areas you will find original paintings by artists from the famous CoBrA movement. ... more   less
