Worst place in the world. I booked a room for 2 nights through hostelworld. When I arrived at the hostel and was checking in, they told me since I'm 37 they couldn't provide me with accomodation because they have a policy which doesn't allow guests older than 35 to stay at a dorm. They said they were fully booked and kicked me out. To make matters worse, they charged me with a cancellation fee equal to the 2 nights I had booked. They didn't reason with me, just kicked me out and left me with no room and stole 80 euros from me. If I make a booking through hostelworld, they have my birthdate and information, so they are literally stealing my money, if they have such a policy they should have not allowed the reservation to go through. What these people are doing is illegal and yet they refuse to answer any email or refund any money. Horrible experience, wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Be very careful with this hostel! In the House rules, it is written - "Check-in is only possible for guests aged between 18 and 35" And if you are older or younger, then you will be denied accommodation and the full amount will be deducted from your account. These restrictions are not very visible in the description. According to the girl at the reception, they refuse clients very often (in 20 minutes, they refused two more guests). The receptionist asked me to cancel my booking, and she will ask the hotel manager not to charge my account. She said that they always do this and usually the manager does not withdraw money. However, this is a LIE - because a few days later the money was withdrawn. Manager named SAGE SCOTT - replied that this is the policy of the hostel and "forget about your money!"

I had a booking with this hostel for months. I arrived to the hostel for my stay to discover I wasn’t allowed to stay in the property. I was exhausted; having only recently arriving into Amsterdam from the international airport. I was distraught that I wasn’t allowed to stay due to my age?! To make matters worse, I had to pay a cancellation fee 85 euro when I was still looking to stay there and it was there fault I couldn’t! Disgusting, horrible place. I returned back here a few days later to meet my tour group ; to find that there were people of multiple ages and backgrounds staying there - why I was discriminated against I will never know. It was completely disgusting, discriminatory behaviour. Awful place. Do not go here.

To begin with, the place is really really expensive for what they offer. It felt more like a prison cell rather than a shared room. There were all sorts of shady people in the hostel, and also in our room who were high on drugs, or acid. We were told that everything has been paid, including all the taxes, however, at the check-in we were asked to pay again for some additional taxes (city tax). We also paid extra for the breakfast, however, it was very minimal with just bread and some ham and cheese, which was really not worth the price that we paid. There was, of course also some bottled juice and cereal and muesli. The location of the hostel is the only thing that is good, but everything else is even below the bare minimum. Even in the room, there wasn't even a table or a chair to sit or to keep anything and in the toilet the shower was also the weirdest shower that I have ever seen, which barely gives any water and you have to spend a lot longer there to shower. Everything is done in a cheap way and even the showers are designed to save water, but it only becomes an annoying factor since you end up spending more time in the shower. The same goes for the sink, and the fact that the water stops every five seconds so you have to keep pressing the button again, and again. The hot summer days were really hard to sleep in and it wasn't even a fan in the room let alone an air conditioner. To make matters worse the windows were also not opening fully, and had a lock which would open them only for a few centimeters. The check-in process was OK but even the keys that we received from your digital inverter, only created more problems and could be a lot simpler with normal keys. In a nutshell, you should only go there if you are unable to find anything else or anything cheaper than this place, which was also the case for us, but it is not recommended in any way other than that.

We have just come back from the best weekend here . Travelled from the Uk to celebrate my sons 18th birthday . A groups of 7 of us The people are great , the staff are awsume, the rooms are clean and own bathroom. We had an 8bed door for the weekend and absolutely cannot complain about anything. We will be coming back here that’s for sure . The vibe at the bar is amazing and we met some other really cool people . 100 per cent recommend this place … absolutely faultless

You get what you pay for. Cheap but top end. As long as you expect bunkbeds you’ll be fine. Good mattress, duvet and pillow. Secure rooms. Clean well fitted shower rooms. Good location in the centre of town. All staff were helpful. Would return

After reading lots of mixed reviews I was a little apprehensive but ended up pleasantly surprised. We had a group of 12 (stag doo) in three 4 bed rooms with private bathrooms. Check in was easy and straightforward, credit to the girls at reception. The rooms were immaculate, not one bit of dirt even in the bathrooms. Our room had a electronic coded lock and the code was emailed to each guest that was staying in that room making it very secure. Bunk beds were surprisingly comfy, bedding was clean, a small bath towel was provided and was ample. Shower gel also available in the shower area. Bar area again was very clean and tidy, nice atmosphere and cool to hang around in before heading out. Location was good, a slight walk nothing major, we found rickshaws were cheap and easy to get too and from the hostel. Checking out was a breeze. Couldn’t fault Hans Brinker. If you need a cheap place to stay that’s clean and friendly then it will fulfill your needs. 😊

We had a group booking for 48 people. I couldn’t have asked for a better place for us to stay. Location is perfect, so close to everything. Bar area amazing with very reasonably priced drinks and snacks. The rooms were basic as expected but all we needed was somewhere to sleep and wash and they provided that. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. I had to contact the hotel a number of times in the run up to us coming to confirm numbers, payment details and more and they were always helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who isn’t looking for a 5 star, a nice place to use as a base for their visit to Amsterdam.

I booked a mixed dormitory bed for 3 nights. I left in the morning, leaving my pyjamas etc. in my bed under the sheets. My backpack had no valuables in it, so I left it in my locker unlocked. I got back later and noticed my bed was made and my locker had a lock on it. All my stuff was dislocated. I did not feel comfortable staying there any more. I wanted to check out after 1 night but they wouldn't check me out early since I had made the booking for 3 nights. No refund anything or taking responsibility. I wouldn't recommend this place. The overall vibe was cold, and I'm actually glad I spent the rest of my stay in a much nicer hostel in Noord.

This hostel is poorly managed and I would recommend you keep searching the internet for a different place to stay in Amsterdam. Here is a small snippet from our experience to try convince you to not book - The hostel staff cancelled our booking as we were running late (despite notification of our late arrival due a cancelled flight), the reception staff then made us rebook online upon arrival at 2-3am and pay additional booking fees & money for the room before giving us they keys despite them being at fault. Upon discussions with management in the following days, they are refusing to refund us the amount we paid above our initial booking despite them admitting it was a mistake on their end. Would rate our experience with this hostel a 2/10 if I’m generous.
