The Hotel was a quick, 8 minute walk to the conference centre at oudemanshuispoort, at the University of Amsterdam. Its right on a quiet, but picturesque canal, and is very close to rembrandts square. The service was great, the breakfast perfect for my needs and I loved the decor. My room was modern and exceptionally clean. My windows opened all...

We chose this hotel after searching quite a bit. The hotel was recently renovated and looks good. we got a triple room, and it looks tight, but we weren't getting on each others way. the place was clean, and we were happy with it. as far as cons: -for our triple room, the windows didn't open all the way. since...

We stayed for 1 night in one of the quad rooms, which was perfect for us to bring the cost down. On first arrival there was nobody in reception. After waiting there for 15mins, calling out and ringing the bell, someone eventually turned up. The guy was very arrogant and assumed we knew everything about the hotel already. We were...

In 12 years of staying in hotels around the world, this is the first one I have ever complained about. Tiny bathroom, not even enough space to squeeze between the toilet and the wall to get to the shower. Single room was quite claustrophobic and a strange layout. Not very well-informed staff, couldn't even say where any internet cafes could...

Having taken what seemed like a bit of risk when we booked 3 nights at the Hermitage after reading some of the reviews here, we were very happily surprised by the stylish decor of both the public areas and our double room on the 4th floor. The en suite shower and toilet was small, but very new, as was all...

The hotel fire alarm went off three times between midnight and dawn. The receptionist explained it was people smoking joints in their rooms. We had a triple room. It was cramped, but then so is most Amsterdam accommodation. The bathroom was so small that you couldn't sit without opening the door. But it was clean, the beds were comfortable and...

The hotel is now called Hotel Hermitage Amsterdam, it advertises all rooms with flatscreen tv, telephone and coffee making facilities, however none of the rooms actually had these. Everything was clean however we paid for a large double room but were given a small double room, they advertised it had a canal view which is true however there is also...

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
