Perfect location, comfortable clean beds, impeccable service, delicious breakfast, what a treasure of a hotel! Highly recommend!!!

My husband and I stayed with our two children (ages 10 and 12) in the Blacksmith room. My husband and I had the main bedroom with oversized king bed with very soft and clean bedding, such a cozy bed and our kids stayed in the upstairs bedroom that had two twin beds. There is an oversized bathroom with a full size tub, glass enclosed stand up shower with the best water pressure ever, no joke this is a spa quality shower! There is a small galley way separating the king bedroom from the bathroom and stairs to the kids room that is appointed with a mini fridge ( with complimentary bottle of sparkling wine), nespresso coffee maker and tea kettle with plenty of tea bags choices. The room was very clean. The decor is very charming and whimsical. The best is the breakfast each morning, don’t miss the breakfast! I won’t spoil the surprise of all that’s included, but the breakfast was very special. The service from staff was wonderful. Location is awesome- you are in the charming neighborhood of Jordaan- full of great restaurants, coffee shops, shopping and incredible canal walking. We rented bikes from neighboring discount bike rental and that was definitely the way to go- everywhere in Amsterdam is just a few minutes by bike. There is also much to do next to the hotel by foot if that is more your style. I will definitely recommend this hotel to others and we will be back! This hotel is truly a gem!!

I’ve looked at this hotel several times but our trips to Amsterdam always seemed to fall through. When we finally decided to go, it was the only hotel I considered. We arrived a few hours before check in but they were able to get us into the room right away which is always so appreciated after the long, overnight trip. We stayed in the Shoemaker which is a corner room, on the smaller side but ample for two. Nice canal views, small bathroom but good shower head and water pressure which can be tricky to find in Europe. We found the location to be perfect, very pretty on the canal and walkable to everything we wanted to see. The service was top notch, they were always checking in to see if we needed anything or if they could do something for us. They have a small gallery area where breakfast is served (or they will bring it to your room) and you can get drinks and snacks in there during the day/evening as well. Drinks and sandwiches from their kitchen next door were very reasonably priced. The one note I have regarding the room was that some of the furniture, while obviously chosen to fit the theme of the room, wasn’t useful or necessary. A small table to enjoy breakfast or drinks at would have been nice. But overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would certainly stay here again when in Amsterdam. The thoughtful and charming gift at check out was also such a nice touch as you’re leaving.

I booked Hotel The Craftsmen based on reviews. It was a lovely hotel in an excellent location, only a 10 minute walk to the central train station in Amsterdam. The hotel is very small. The rooms unique with furnishings for each room. Our room was nice, small and awkward. The ceilings are not high, so if you are 6 feet tall or more, this is not the hotel for you (including the shower). The welcome bottle of bubbly was a nice treat. There was a bottle of still water and sparkling water in the fridge, along with coffee and tea for you morning wake-up. There was little place to put anything. The bathtub took up a good portion of the room and honestly, when we walked in, there was a distinct smell that we ended up figuring out was coming from the bathtub drain (almost sewerish). The bathroom and shower were nice, but again, had a hard time because I kept hitting the ceiling. The Dyson Hairdryer was fun to try, but the ceilings made it difficult to dry my hair. The best part of the hotel was the morning breakfast, which included: yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, warm fresh hard boiled eggs, fresh bread and croissants, meat and cheese, butter and jam, freshly squeezed orange juice and any coffee or team drink you desired. There was also a warm plate of mini pancakes that came out with powdered sugar drizzled on top. It was a treat. Upon departing, we received a departing gift of two coasters with the hotel design on them, which was very nice. Overall, a good stay, but for the price, the room could have been a bit more comfy and practical.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Hotel The Craftsmen. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed our central location, the unique design of our rooms, and the special touches like the welcome bubbly and breakfast spread. It’s great to know that you appreciated the variety of fresh offerings in the morning and the departing gift. We do understand that our historic building comes with some quirks, including lower ceilings in certain rooms. We appreciate your feedback regarding the layout and space limitations, as well as the bathtub concern. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and will certainly have our team look into it to ensure future guests have the best possible experience. Your comments help us continue improving, and we truly value your perspective. We’re glad you had an overall pleasant stay, and we hope to welcome you back in the future—perhaps in one of our rooms with higher ceilings for a more comfortable experience. Kind regards, Clara Hotel The Craftsmen

Absolutely fantastic experience at the Craftsman. From the second I stepped in the door, the staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly and helpful. I truly can't say enough about the level of hospitality they showed me on my trip. They went above and beyond at every opportunity. The breakfast each morning was amazing and eating in the gallery allowed for all sorts of great people watching. The water pressure in the shower was the best I've ever experienced in a dutch hotel, and the hot water was instant. Very appreciated on chilly February mornings. I stayed in the bookbinder, which was advertised a tiny room meant for one and, while it was small, it never felt cramped or confined. The decor was quirky in all the right ways. Would (and will) absolutely stay here again. Thank you to all the staff of The Craftsman for making my trip a remarkable time!

I did tons of research on our pre-cruise hotel stay in Amsterdam, I found this cozy small boutique inn with only 14 rooms by watching YouTube. Now, Amsterdam is expensive and since Taylor Swift was in town, probably more so. We even had a few “swifties” here.

We were in the Cartographer room on the 3rd floor facing the famous Singel Canal. We didn’t hear any noise up here. The room included a nice leisurely breakfast on the ground floor. There is a very very small elevator/lift to take your luggage up to your room. The bed was extremely comfortable, shower good, did not use the claw tub. They had real drinking glasses in your room.

All the staff was amazing - impeccable service!! We are seniors in 60 70’s so we opting for the lift rather than the circular stairs which were very beautifully painted I might add. LOCATION was fantastic - 8 minutes to the Anne Frank House, Pure Boat Canal Rides, Tulip Museum, Cheese Museum and 10 minutes to the rail station. Restaurants nearby, too. I highly recommend Chris from AirBnB Experiences for his local “Windmill, Chocolate & Cheese” tour in Zaanse Schans - which is about 20 minutes north of Amsterdam. Also a wooden shoe factory there, too.

AND it only took 30 minutes by Uber/Taxi from the hotel to the food buffet on the cruise ship. Probably should give a shout out to the Port of Amsterdam, also. The easiest and fastest embarkation ever for us!!

(One can really tell the differences between small inns and those huge 400-room cookie cutter hotels.)

We unexpectedly ended up in Amsterdam after our visas didn’t come through on a trip to Africa. I initially booked 2 nights at the hotel and then extended 3 additional days because we liked it so much.

The hotel is in a location ideal for exploring Amsterdam. The train station and the tram line are both within walking distance.

Our first two nights were in the clockmaker’s room. The room has a high, beautiful ceiling looking out over the Singel canal. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the shower has plenty of water pressure and hot water.

Our next three nights were in the cartographers room on the 3rd floor, also overlooking the canal. Again, the bed and pillows were comfortable and the shower has plenty of water pressure and hot water. The room also has a claw foot tub! We slept with the window open! So lovely.

The best thing about the hotel is the staff! They are so friendly and helpful. They do a great job making sure the guests are comfortable, the rooms are clean, and that everything runs smoothly.

The room rate includes breakfast, which can be brought to your room or eaten in “the gallery” overlooking the canal. The breakfast includes boiled eggs, meats, cheeses, jams, breads (the best croissants), yogurt, fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee, etc.

The hotel has a great list of recommendations that are spot on about things to do and places to eat.

Great spot!

If you are looking for a break from the huge chain hotels try this unique property. The building is from the 17th century and is charming. Each room is themed after a historical craft (shoemaker, boat builder, tanner, etc) and is furnished with antique artifacts that reflect the craft. The hotel is very intimate, only 16 I believe, so it's very quiet. I also like the fact that the small number of guests makes it possible for the friendly and helpful staff to actually know who you are. It's also in a great location: a 10 minute walk from the Central Station, a 5 minute walk from tram lines, and easy walking distance to the cool restaurants and shops in the Jordaan neighborhood and the Anne Frank House. Although the building itself is very old our room (and I assume all the rooms) have been thoroughly updated with A/C, modern bathrooms, USB charger outlets, etc. The elevator is a hoot. It's tiny. Only big enough to hold two people or one person and a suitcase. So if you have a lot of luggage you are going to need to engage in a little shuttle diplomacy. Otherwise you will need to navigate the narrow, steep and winding staircase. Another welcome touch is the nice complimentary breakfast which can be served either in your room or in the very pretty common room on the ground floor. If you tell them what time you want to eat the day before, it will be laid out and ready when you come downstairs! All in all, highly recommended.

Hands-down the best staff of any hotel anywhere! Some context- this is a small boutique hotel in the heart of the most popular section of an extremely popular city... and it was (for us) one of the most affordable options of the relevant competition. The staff were all quite young (20's, maybe early 30's) and *all* the most pleasant, professional, outgoing, engaging, hospitable lodging staff I've ever had the pleasure to stay with- and I've stayed at a lot of lodgings in my time. The property is exactly as described on their website, and was a charm to stay in for our 3 nights. The rooms are unique and quirky, and not for those who want their predictably bland big-chain rectangles that market the collection of points. If you want a uniquely pleasant Amsterdam home for a visit with a staff that are very evidently trying to go above and beyond (and doing so well), then I heartily endorse a stay at The Craftsmen. We commend the management for hiring such great staff, and the staff for being so great, and we wish them well in maintaining this same level of impeccable customer service in the years to come!

We stayed with the Craftsman for 2 nights for my Husbands birthday last weekend and we were so impressed by the cosy, boutique, friendly and elegant vibe within the hotel. Our room was the Cartographer which had a beautiful claw foot bathtub in the room and a separate en suite bathroom with amazing shower. The view over the canals was so stunning and the beds were so cosy, we never wanted to leave them. The breakfast was delicious as well, eggs, fresh mini pancakes, fruit, yogurt, pastries and cheese and ham board. The staff were all so helpful and friendly as well. What I thought was a lovely touch was the what’s app messages before the stay and the chat option when checking in, I was able to sort out everything so easily and if I needed anything the hotel were so accessible with the different communication methods. We got breakfast to the room and it was always so fresh and prompt. The location is great as well, the central station is just 10min walk away and it’s just perfect location, nestled away from the noise and bustle of some of the very busy streets but everything is a tram or a short walk away. There is a cool cocktail place as well just across from the hotel, called Tales & Spirits. I would highly recommend this hotel if you want a cosy, friendly and chill vibe, definitely good for romantic couple breaks. Would definitely go back again.

My husband and I recently stayed here for 2 nights and were very impressed by the attention to detail. Here are the highlights:

1. Room: We were given the Shoemakers Room on the 3rd floor overlooking the Singel Canal. It was extremely quiet at all hours even with the windows open. It had a small minibar and excellent A/C. There was also a USB port.
2. Location: It was a 15 minute easy walk from the Central Train Station and about 10 minutes to the “Nine Streets” shopping area.
3. Breakfast: Bountiful and complimentary. It included hard boiled eggs, meat, cheese, bowl of fresh fruit, bread, croissants, jam, yoghurt and delicious coffee. Upon request, they brought it up to our room although we could have had breakfast downstairs in the Gallery. On our departure day, we had to leave early to catch our flight so they gave us a breakfast picnic to go.
4. Design: So much effort has gone into designing the Hotel and utilizing antique objects from Dutch craftsman. It was a true pleasure to look around!
5. Staff: The staff were super friendly and helpful. We especially enjoyed chatting with Michelle, the owner, and learning about renovations and how she sourced antiques for the Hotel.
6. Communication: There was no phone in our room but the staff seemed to like to communicate via WhatsApp. This worked fine for us.
7. Little touches: We were given a bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival and a set of 4 pretty blue and white Dutch tile coasters as a departure gift.

We would love to return!

I'm not 100% sure, but there was definitely a little shop just to the right of the hotel entrance where you could buy sandwiches, etc. I think you should ask The Craftsmen about breakfast directly. It might depend on how busy they are ...
