Breitner House is set in a characteristic Amsterdam townhouse overlooking the Oosterpark. It offers 2 large, classically decorated suites with modern features such as a flat-screen TV and iPod docking station. Both rooms have the atmosphere of the 1800s with authentic ornaments, big Italian chandeliers and antique furnishings. They have luxurious bathrooms with a bath tub and free toiletries. Every morning Breitner House serves an extensive breakfast including champagne, in the classic dining room with views of the park. In the direct area several restaurants are available for lunch and dinner. Amsterdam's famous Museum Quarter including the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum is 15 minutes away by public transport. The Artis Zoo is 500 m away. Amsterdam-East is a great choice for travellers interested in cycling tours, city walks, museums shopping and nightlive.

Detailed Reviews
Breitner House is a unique, warm, and luxurious experience. This boutique hotel has only two independent beautifully appointed suites, which is a definite benefit now. The setting is as if you were living in an art gallery with carefully chosen artwork, furniture, and lovely objets d’art. Added to the engaging setting are the complimentary coffees, wines, candies, and fruits making your visit feel like visiting a private, lovely country house. The warmth of the hosting also gives a comforting feel to it all.
You can be as private or as social as you wish and any question or need was very nicely handled. And the breakfasts are gourmet level. Camilla provides a wide variety of cold cuts, cheeses, jams, chutneys, fresh fruit and juices, yoghurt, dips, pastries and breads that are very high quality. In addition, the warm entrees vary and each and every one was delicious. I don’t know how she does it. The sparkling wine offered with breakfast just added to an already special experience. The coffee was excellent and the latte/espresso was very much enjoyed by my husband. In fact, after breakfast I was ready to lounge in the spa-like bathroom in our suite.
We traveled with our daughter and so had both suites. Frankly, I had a hard time choosing ours. Hers had a well designed bathroom with a shower and the fireplace in her room made our winter visit feel very cosy. They are both large and well lit with sitting areas and she didn’t even use the front room adjacent to her sitting room. Ours had a large living area with a sofa to sink into as well as another beautiful ceramic tile bathroom with shower and separate tub with heated floors. It was such a comfort to come back to the house after long days walking, sightseeing, and Ubering around Amsterdam, sometimes in the rain. Either suite is an excellent choice.
We felt privileged to visit Breitner House and although we have stayed in amazing boutique hotels, top Kyoto ryokans, and large hotels, it was a peak quality experience for all of us.

This is the best place to stay in Amsterdam for a completely different experience, made possible by the hosts, who go to great lengths to make sure that we are absolutely happy. This B&B feels like a home because it is one! Our room ( we took the first floor one), was large, beautifully decorated (early 20th century style), and comfortable. Breakfast is an unforgettable experience, the table is decorated beautifully, wonderful breakfast goodies and classical music to round it off. Nothing is too much trouble for Camila, who was always at hand during our meal. Camila also made sure that our pre-stay requests were met and then topped it off with two lovely bottles of wine and some chocolates. Definitely the place to stay in Amsterdam.
The only warning is that this place is for people who have no problem going up and down steep stairs. The house has historical value, so it is understandable that the hosts did not change the interior layout.

I cannot explain the experience you get while staying at the Breitner house. It is one of the most beautiful homes in Amsterdam. The way it is furnished and the history in the art and decorative pieces is awe-inspiring. The champagne breakfast is such a treat and the owners are such sweethearts. Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough. Such a beautiful stay.

What a wonderful experience with a wonderful host in such a historically elegant and charming home! Camilla is such an elegant and entertaining hostess with a fascinating personal history. Her art collection alone is worth the price and then there are the extravagant rooms and breakfast.
The location is very convenient for public transportation as well as walking. The park across the street is beautiful and historically important (becomes clear once you visit the Rijks Museum).
The rooms are well-appointed and decorated. It is like living in a historical mansion. The entry can be challenging and definitely not recommended for those who have mobility challenges. The stairs are narrow and steep—you must climb up and then back down even for the first floor (but there is a “hidden” way to get your luggage into the lower suite without navigating stairs).
The breakfasts are opulent extravagant affairs fit for royalty. More food than can be humanly consumed—but fortunately, nothing goes to waste. We consider ourselves so fortunate to have experienced this B&B and hope to return before Camilla’s eventual retirement.

We cannot recommend Breitner House highly enough! From the minute we checked in to be greeting warmly by magnificent host, Camilla, to sadly leaving 2 days’ later, we felt truly privileged to have spent quality time in this beautiful romantic and historic home. The building and plush decor and furnishings are from a bygone era. We stayed in the breathtaking Breitner Suite. The champagne breakfasts set you up for the day and are amongst the best we’ve ever had anywhere in the world. Thanks so much Camilla! We will be back and would like to try the Israels suite next time 😊

Let me preface this review that we did enjoy our stay of 5 nights at Breitner House in the George Breitner room. However we have to be honest and frank to the readers on TA and ourselves. The hosts Camilla and Guido were friendly and hospitable. However, the suite itself was a bit of a let-down. The bed was not comfortable, well just one side that my wife slept on. It had a depression from wear and tear and could not sleep comfortably. The mattress needs to be replaced. The suite was stuffy and hot at night. There was no air-conditioning and no air circulation and noticed particularly at night as we weren't much there during the day. There were no fans. It was difficult to open the windows and moving the curtains was a chore due to the decor that was in front of the window sill. We were afraid of breaking the furniture. We could not close the curtains facing the street at all. We were told this by Camilla. So at night there was a yellow glow through the room from the street lights. Talking could be heard through the door that was blocked off through the suite. There was a lack of soundproofing. The wooden floors creaked each time we took a step. There were stains on the wall of bedroom from either water or rust and peeling paint on the ceiling. Yes it is an old building but you would expect not to see this in a 5 star B & B. The sinks in bathroom didn't drain water quickly even after figuring out the correct method to open the plugs which were not obvious. On the last day the neighbours were doing renovations and the noise was very audible. The hosts apologised for this and yes was out of their control. The wi-fi and TV reception was sketchy at times and disconnected itself and they apologised for this as well & was out of their control. Guido organised a 3 hour canal tour for us with the other couple staying there and this was a highlight of our stay as was our breakfast feast daily. Literally food kept coming from the kitchen with various Dutch delicacies and on the table cakes and fruit, cold meats, cheese and smoked salmon, profiteroles & poffertjes and strawberries and yoghurt and fresh squeezed juices -everyday a different combination of fruit. On days where we had an early start we were accommodated and breakfast was still sumptuous. The accommodation emphasis was on the aesthetics rather than the creature comfort of the guests. The bathroom tiles were very slippery when wet but were advised to be careful by Camilla. The water pressure in shower was low and controls complicated to get the right temperature by trial and error. This B & B is beautiful and tastefully and stylishly decorated but be aware it may not meet everyone's expectations.

Although we were expecting a " hotel" and were somewhat initially taken aback by this nondescript residence on a residential street, the charm and overflowing hospitality of the marvelous hosts Camilla and Guido quickly reversed our hesitations and made us feel "at home". The nondescript building we soon learned was really a historical cultural center for painters. The rooms are filled with art and "tons " of chotckes (maybe too much). Suite was large and very comfortable.
Cons- No AC and no screens. Bathroom, although redone and quite nice is on a different floor level (several steps), so if you are going there in middle night you need to be quite careful.Bathroom floor ,particularly shower floor, made with very slippery tile, and when feet are soapy, one needs to have ice skating skills to be able to navigate safely. Be careful. Very awkward that the entire front room has no usable window shades or curtains, nor do any windows open. This is obviously quite awkward at night, especially since this is where the TV is.The bedroom does have curtains against this front room's side so there is privacy there. Location requires a bus or taxi to get to anywhere touristy.

My husband and I have just come back from a city trip to Amsterdam to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. We love small, cosy B&B and were thrilled to discover one of Amsterdam's newest venues, the Breitnerhouse. We couldn't have picked a better location. Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by Camilla with a bottle of Prosecco and some delicious savory treats. Shortly afterwards Guido joined us and their hospitality can't be faulted. They are both really putting their hearts into this project - Camilla with her faultless taste in interior design and Guido with his fabulous breakfast. Both are hugely entertaining and know the city like the back of their hands. All recommendations for lunch and dinner were brilliant and one morning Guido even went through the trouble to drive us to the Joordan quarter to save us the journey and get us straight to the market.
Our suite was amazing and we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy the cosy terrasse in the sunshine. Beds are super comfy and there are lots of treats waiting to be devoured: chocolates, biscuits, wine, soft drinks - all included in the price. Breakfast was easily the most spectacular we have ever had (and we travel a lot) with all kinds of hot and cold delicatessen and fresh juice, champagne and coffee.
The location is perfect: an easy journey from the airport (45 min from door to door) and two main tramlines stopping in front of the house (one takes you to museums and Leidseplein, the other one to Centraal, Dam and theatres).
The only sad thing was that we had to leave - but we will be back!

As the snow now keeps falling in the northeast part of North America where I reside, I long for the five days I spent at Breitner House in early January. That was the first time in my life I rewarded myself and decided, against my supervisor's budget warnings, to stay in an exclusive place. Some luxurious places tend to be snobbish and pretentious, but as soon as I entered Breitner House my fears were dissolved. Guido treated me as a princess every morning, preparing a fantastic breakfast, and discussing politics, art and the city. Camilla treated me as if we knew each other for years, and shared our love for art, family and genuine life. Reading other reviews, I realize that this is a courtesy they extend indiscriminately to all their guests. What a fantastic pair of hosts!!! I have only one recommendation/advise for future guests: they might open their door to us, but we should by no means invade their privacy. Camilla and Guido are now in my short list of my favorite people in this world. And Breitner House will be the only place I will stay if I ever return to Amsterdam.

We stayed at Breitner House in October 2012. My wife and I, though well travelled, both thought that it was the nicest place we have ever stayed in. From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in the beauty and warmth of the house and the hospitality of its owners. They welcomed us in a very personal manner with a drink and cheeses and an enlightening chat, and by the time we got the keys to our room I already felt at home. Having seen the pictures on their website and considering the price we were paying, we had high expectations already, but even so the room in reality exceeded our expectations. The suite we were staying in was exquisite and palatial. It was decorated in the most sumptuous and beautiful manner by our hostess (who happens to own a shop downstairs selling exquisite objects and original pieces of art - many of which adorned her rooms). Biscuits, chocolates and wine were left for us in the room which also contained a nespresso machine and fresh flowers. The whole package in my opinion exceeded the quality you would get in a 5 star hotel, and it was warmer and more personal than a hotel (the house only has 2 guest rooms and therefore the hosts can afford plenty of personal time and attention to their guests). If there was any complaint it was that the room was so beautiful we were reluctant to leave it, even to go out for dinner, although we eventually dragged ourselves out to go to a restaurant that was recommended by our host (Nam Kee) which was an excellent recommendation. We were also given plenty of practical information and suggestions tailored to our taste by our hosts.
Walking into the dining room for breakfast in the morning was like straying onto the set of a sumptuous period drama. It was so beautiful that I, a self-confessed glutton, was reluctant to attack it lest I disturb its artistic beauty. The problem though was that it was as tasty, varied and inviting as it was beautiful so the glutton eventually won. All this work was created masterfully by our host (and hostess the next day), and it appeared that it was again almost personalized to our tastes and likes (I wondered if they had a special talent for tuning in to the needs and preferences of each individual guest).
We are already looking forward to our return visit.

I stayed at Breitner House. There are 3 Tram lines that stop within 1 minute walk. Very easy to get to any part of Amsterdam from there,
