We wanted a quiet place for this visit to Amsterdam. We were attracted to the location of V-Nesplein which is still in the heart of the city, but seemed to be set apart from the noise, and is walking distance to the Metro and the main train station. With the hefty price of the room, we expected some luxury, but not to be. The room was spacious enough, but it was quite dark. The heavy dark curtains did not help much. We were quite disappointed with the furnishings and furniture. The bedside lamps were way too low for comfortable reading in bed. While the bed is comfortable enough, the two chairs provided were not usable. They are very uncomfortable go so deep that a short person like me cannot get out of them without any help. One cannot even sit on them to tie one’s shoes. They also never show this in their website pictures, but what goes for their closet or clothes storage space is nothing but naked rough planks of wood held together by naked tubes. They look as though they have been sourced from a junkyard. We also requested for a quiet room. Instead, they put us next to the staff’s restroom. Its door starts banging at 3:30 or 4:00 in the morning, when the staff start coming in. We paid for breakfast to be included. It was very convenient that the hotel has a Lobby Bar & Restaurant, but the selection was very limited. As we were there for 6 mornings, we practically sampled everything. While the staff are very attentive and accommodating, (coffee and water for tea always served very hot), for some reason, the breakfast was always served cold. And this is also something that never fails to amaze me, how professional chefs manage to take the taste out from something as simple as scrambled eggs. They were not just cold, but very tasteless as well. There was really no justifiable reason for this as the kitchen is right there, at the end of the bar, unless eggs are pre-cooked and plated and served when they are already cold. There really is nothing luxurious about this hotel, though I have to commend the restaurant’s staff. They were really very pleasant and accommodating except for a couple who were rather grumpy. High marks also have to go to the Housekeeping person who took care of our room. She was very efficient and reliable. The room was cleaned on time, supplies, especially clean towels, were always sufficiently replenished. But sadly, this is not a hotel we would even contemplate going back to in the future.…
