I visit Amsterdam regularly on business, and have always wanted to stay at Peter Boogaard's BYB. This February, I got to spend about 10 days there, and it is truly the most remarkable B&B I have ever stayed in...I would highly recommend it for its location, cleanliness, warmth, and comfort, and its great value for money. But best of all...

My wife and I visited Amsterdam for the weekend and we booked Boogaard's Bed and Breakfast because of the reviews that were on this site. It fully desreves to be number 1 as the stay was perfect. Peter is a great cheerfull host, very informative with lots of advice on places to visit. The breakfast is worth the trip itself....

If you are visiting Amsterdam, this is the only place to stay. I stayed there with my boyfriend in the early part of February 2010 and we could not believe our luck in finding it. Peter Boogaard, the owner, has decorated the B and B so well that it could easily be featured in an interior design magazine. Our room...

Peter is great! The B&B is quite close to the Central train station, and within walking distance to all the major sites. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Well, what can i say that hasn't been said already? Peter Boogaard is a gentleman who's attention to detail is second to none. He has spent much time, effort and money making his B&B the best experience you will ever find! Never have my fiancee or I come across such a gem of a place as Boogaard's. Peter prides himself...

All the other positive reviews say it better than I can, but I feel I must try my best. My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights at Boogaard's in the first week of February:- Location - A 5-minute brisk walk or 10-minute stroll from Amsterdam Centraal train station. Lovely, quiet street in the beautiful Jordaan district. Same distance again from...

This is the most comfortable, convenient and pleasant B&B I have every stayed in -- on three continents. Our room was very comfortable, and it was effectively a suite as we had the living room (shared with only one other room) to ourselves. The location is superb, absolutely central, and the house is beautiful. The amenities are outstanding: free wifi,...

A real gem of a place - nice and central, fantastic rooms (with amazingly kitch decor), brilliant breakfasts, two very lovable dogs and a a very lovely owner who was the perfect host. This was a bit of a step up for us price-wise as we normally stay in cheaper places, but it was well worth it. From the moment...

Staying at Boogaard's is like staying at your favorite relative's house. It is beyond outstanding. My girlfriend and I drove up to Amsterdam from Germany. There is a parking garage close to the B+B but I dislike driving in cities. We parked at the Park and Ride at Bijlmer Arena on the edge of the city (only 6 euro a...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
