Every trip we take starts with tripadvisor and we have yet to be disappointed! So I'll start with a vote of thanks to all who post reviews here. Assuming you have already decided you want to visit Amsterdam, I will try to restrain myself from raving on about what an awesome place it is. First time in the city, and...

misceatdrinksleep met and exceeded our expectations on our first trip to Amsterdam. We walked from Amsterdam Centraal station (we travel fairly light) and even in the confusion and exhaustion of a long day of travel, it was no problem to find thanks to the given directions. We were greeted by Gabriel who immediately offered to bring our luggage upstairs. Thank...

I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Amsterdam. The Design Room was large, and the bed was perfect. Rachel and Pepijn gave us excellent information and helped us whenever we needed guidance. We loved the view of the canal. They provide a noise machine, and we didn't notice noise when we slept. The church bells and sea gulls added to...

From start to finish the staff helped us get acquainted with the city, and made wonderful recommendations based on our personal travel style and preferences. The rooms were large by European standards. The room was clean and well-appointed, and the views of the canal (2 windows!) were very nice and relaxing. We won't stay anywhere else now...this really was an...

My twenty year-old daughter and I stayed at this charming inn in Amsterdam. The breakfast was included and made fresh to order. The rooms were clean and comfortable and service pleasant and efficient. The extra touches like the snacks and drinks in the room and free wifi were appreciated. Best of all is the location. Close to major historic attractions...

This hotel made our stay in Amsterdam such an incredible one. My husband and I stayed on the second floor canal view room, the Rembrandt room. The room is on the small side, but has everything you need. A comfortable bed, a mini bar with free water, drinks, beer, snacks, and they restock it! There is an awesome coffee maker...

Stayed here during our March break vaycay. Really enjoyed it. Friendly, helpful staff. Great advice. Good breakfasts. They don't nickel and dime re mini-bar (in fact, it's free!). We had top floor room on the canal - a bit noisier there, but that was expected. The area is fairly trendy, and close to the Red Light district (a bit too...

We had the most relaxing few days in Amsterdam because of this B&B. The room was very clean, cute and comfortable. If anything, it was a chore to get out of bed because they were so comfortable. We had a canal side room on the second floor and it was a bit noisier on the Friday we stayed but we...

Me and my partner are in our twenties and it was our first time staying at the Misc. and therefore we didn't know what to expect. Before our stay the owners emailed us several times to keep us updated about our reservation and to make sure we got the room we wanted. When we arrived, I was so pleasantly surprised,...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.

“If you're an urban dweller, the canal-facing rooms won't seem too loud. As a New Yorker, I had no need of the white noise machine that was thoughtfully provided. The owners seem to think the quieter garden-view rooms in the rear are better, though, so if silence is important to you, try those. Be aware that there's no elevator and the steps are typically (for Amsterdam) steep and winding.”
