The Ritz this isn't but then again you aren't ( or at least shouldn't ) be paying that much. Great for stag do's but I certainly wouldn't take the girlfriend there. The rooms are extremely basic but beds were clean although the shared shower could have done with a damn good clean. For some bizarre reason the shared toilet was...

Worst place I have ever stayed and our standards aren't high on a lads weekend. No toilet in the triple room but it had a shower - which had clearly been used as a toilet by many and rarely (never) washed judging by the smell. The warm friendly staff don't exist and the main guy looks like he is involved...

First off, location is not bad if you want to stay near the red light district. I am not expecting anything fancy since this is not the Ritz but the hotel feels dry and lifeless. The staff didnt even bother to smile and looked like they are not happy about your presence. What made matters worse are mice/rats inside our...

Thank the good lord I was melted. This hotel was in hostel and not the part in town at the start! Staff were ok but it was smoker friendly as much as being allowed to loitering at the front door. The room had a shower n no toilet! The cat only had one ear, that's how cheap it was! Needed...

Me and 5 other friends stayed here for 4 nights and had a great time. The location is top notch for everything, I recommend the little cafe near the canal for breakfast! Room was a little small for 6 of us, but served our needs perfectly. The staff were very friendly and didn't mind it when we had our 3...

Basically, this not a hotel, B&B or even a guest house. It is what a they call in Spain and Italy a 'pensione' which is just a very cheap place with a bed and shower. This place is ok if you are a single guy stopping in the city for one or two nights. But for any longer period or you are travelling...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
