Someone nearby, probably next door, had a shower late at night. The sound of the water hissing in the pipes came straight through the wall. It was loud.

Toiletries are separate little packs not dispensed from refilled containers.

Staff lovely. Beds comfortable. Location great.

Situated near the old town gate with a carpark just across the road, the hotel is then just a short stroll to the main part of the city. The staff (given all the COVID restrictions) were very pleasant and made the check-in process welcoming and professional.

The rooms are a good size and we managed to take advantage of a connecting room for kids. They are well laid out with everything you could want for a comfortable stay (except for air conditioning).

One of the best parts of the stay was the breakfast. A large selection of fruits, cereals and hot food that caters for everyone. Most enjoyable!

I visit my Dutch family and friends every year or so and since a couple of years I use Leiden as my base from where I drive in all directions.
I prefer taking a smaller hotel in town and having my breakfast in a nearby cafe of choice. The problem there is parking until I found de Oude Morsch that has a big parking across the bridge that charges max 16 euro per 24 hour day and is just across the bridge. The center of town (Haarlemmerstraat) is about 7 minutes walk to the other side. I did not have breakfast in my preferred lunchroom because the breakfast in this cute hotel is really somethin else and their (breakfast) restaurant can compete with any establishment in town.
I can continue writing a book but it is enough to state that my first choice for any future stay is this cute little establishment.
The building is an official historic monument which makes it even more special
but the flipside is that this restricts the owner to make major changes to the premises. My room looked anything like a hotel room but felt rather if I had rented part of a top floor in a private building. I actually would not mind staying there a month or so , all comfy and cozy in what felt like my own little pied a terre in Holland. The only thing missing was a fully equipped kitchen of course but the "Pippa" restaurant across the street is not too expensive and has a wide choice of dishes at 9 to 11 euro each you can enjoy outside at a 30 second walk from the hotel.
The drive from Schiphol is about 20 minutes on the 44 intercity direction Den Haag.
You go off at Leiden and then it's just straight down all the way (follow "centrum") no left or right turns till you see the historic gateway cross the canal on your left.
At that point you just passed the MOSPOORT parking on your right so make a u-turn safely and park the car. If you have a heavy load you can drive over the bridge and pull up to the right in front of the hotel to unload, back up and return over the same bridge (that's what I did ).

The room is the smallest I've stayed in in a city break, no cupboard just a small clothes rack, no dressing table for toiletries, very small shelf in the bathroom, all of which made it difficult for the room to be comfortable to spend time in.

We stayed for 3 nights and it cost us just under €600 so very very expensive for such a small room.

Parking isn't included and is an extra €16 a day. Breakfast is an extra €15 pp, if these things were included in the price it wouldn't have felt like such a rip off.

That being said the location was amazing, we took our dog and they left a blanket out for him which was nice, the beds were very comfy and the shower was amazing.

Like others have said if someone in another room uses the shower it is so so noisy in your room and there is a bar/restaurant right outside so take ear plugs.

Leiden was amazing and I would 100% go again but with the price paid for this hotel I don't think its a fair price and because of that I wouldn't stay here again, I'm sure there are more fairly priced hotels close to the centre.

This is a beautiful hotel. Simple but clean. Great location, walking distance to all the restaurants. Parking was simple, though the train station was super close so you don't need a car in this part of Europe.

Super nice and homey hotel in the centre of Leiden, just by the canal, walking distance to station, university, bars/restaurants. The place is really nicely furnished and the rooms are comfy and new. Nice bathroom with great rain showers. Very comfy bed. Staff is really friendly and forthcoming. Overall, I would definitely stay again and recommend.

Only minus points: the breakfast is not really vegan or lactose intolerant-friendly (my case) and although they provided milk alternatives there was no magarine for the toast or yogurt.
Other thing, toilet paper. I know small thing, but the one-layer one they had in the room did not really match the outlook of the place.

Amazing stay: the staff was super friendly and helpful, the place really clean and pretty with a cool decoration them, very comfy. In addition, the breakfast was absolutely yummy, with lots of options, fresh juices, eggs on demand, hot beverage on demand etc. ! I will definitely come back !

Leiden is a fabulous town and I loved visiting for four days in August. Full of fabulous architecture, restaurants and interesting shops, this university town (founded in 800) is a charming adventure.

I stayed at the Hotel d'Oude Morsch. It is located right at the entrance to the Old Town of Leiden and on a canal. Using an old 19th C barracks building for a hotel is terrific in concept. It's interesting re-use of an old structure. But holding too close to the original use and design leads to an uncomfortable stay for hotel guests.

Hard beds, all rooms abutting an outside dining area (very noisy all day and until 8 at night) , glass enclosed bathroom eliminating all semblance of privacy, and bedside tables made from old equipment chests with little room for a book, glass of water, or personal items will take you back to your days in Bootcamp! I would not stay there again.

But that being said, staff is wonderful, accommodating and they serve the very BEST "breakfast in bed" option I've ever had in my years of hotel in- room dining. When I left and registered my comments, the staff reduced my bill a bit, so I credit them with very good Customer Relations. And the location right at the entrance to Old Leiden and all the town offers can't be beat. So if you are not adverse to the limitations of Hotel d'Oude and enjoyed your early days in the Army (!) you will have a nice stay.

Excellent location Near the train station, with a small park and windmill right outside. Clean and new, but lacking a few amenities. They promote the owner’s restaurants, and seemed reluctant to give any other recommendations, which would have been helpful (we ended up finding a great place on our own though).

A pleasant place with really lovely staff. My ground floor room was pretty basic and overlooked the outside patio which did have some privacy issues. At night there was something a drain smell, carefully closing the bathroom door helped and the next morning they said they would look at it. Normally I avoid hotel breakfasts but her I paid the E18.50. It is in theory served on a plate. You may not like everything that is put in front of you, but you will find more than enough to eat. Extremely impressive.
Close to the station and close to the town.
