Stayed at the Meningate B&B, this is right out side the Meningate itself. Clean and friendly hotel, rooms are very basic, it is more for groups of people on educational trips like us. The town is very picturesque, if in large groups ask for discount. Lots of good food and socialising areas, Attendance at the Meningate service a must, very... More

This was my first visit, as a staff member on a school trip. The accomodation was basic - very much like an old-fashioned basic grade youth hostel with uncomfortable, creaky beds and loose tiles in the floor. Also, I agree with other comments, 1 plug socket is not enough with 2 minimum people to a room with phones to charge-up.... More

Dear Alison, Many thanks for your review. Although a "Old fashioned, basic grade youth hostel" will not have wifi and ensuite shower and toilet onboard I do agree that some rooms are waiting for improvements. That is what we are doing at the moment but it needs a bit of time. Your review will be used now to focus on... More

The whole chain is aimed at Schools and groups - the facilities are perfect - they are just want groups want - good food at local restaurants and good groups accommodation. we have been to the chain many times and will continue to do so. The free Internet the free games and entertainments mean the kids love it and also... More

Service was good and we had a fantastic view of the Menin gate (location was perfect). There was however an extreme lack of plug sockets in each room I.e. 10 beds, 1 socket. The mattresses were grim as they were sticky and smelt but otherwise ok.

Dear Louis, Thank you for your review. We understand the lack of plug sockets and will work on a solution for this in the next coming months. However, the mattresses are being cleaned every day and all beds have duvets... Hygiëne is very important to us so I cannot really agree to this but will investigate. Kind regards, More

Having taken students there (as a history teacher) I have to say that this is what we expected for the money. The rooms are not the best, but the food was good and the location overlooking the Menin Gate more than makes up for it. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the students enjoyed the visit. Just don't... More

Dear, Many thanks for your review. We are doing our best to lift the quality of the rooms. Some have already been done, others are waiting for a bit of a quiet period but will certainly be renovated. Kind regards, More

This lovely property is located across the street and ancient mote from the ancient city wall a half block from the famed Menin Gate Memorial. You must see the 8 p.m. nightly WW I memorial service that has been observed nightly sine 1928 except during WW II when the Germans occupied the area. Bus loads of people come to view... More

For a supposed 'school' hotel, it is not all that school friendly. To start with, the hotel looks unfinished with wallpaper falling off and a huge crack in the arch into the dining room. The rooms themselves weren't very safe or hygienic. In our room, the toilet handle had been snapped off and you had to push a lever in... More

Horrible! I went as part of a school visit and I along with many others thought it was horrible! In our room the single glazed window was broken letting in a mighty draft the windows were condensed at morning and the radiator barely worked we had only a blanket and nothing more on an old spung up bed I wanted... As a battlefield tour operator specialising in good history for school groups, the three school hotels in Ieper and the new one in Albert are ideally located. Each has its own unique character with plenty of facilities for the group to relax in the evening. The key selling point is single occupancy, knowing the building is yours for the 3... More

After reading a previous negative review about the Menin Gate B&B, I felt compelled to write in with my very positive experience(s). As a history teacher, I have taken groups of students there for the past 6 years. In all that time, I have never found anything negative to say about the place.
