Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Awful place. Don’t be fooled by the buildings externals. Nobody should ever use this place ever again, shame on the owners. It’s disgusting what is taking place here and the owners should be ashamed of themselves

On arrival I had to follow the a4 paper signs sellotaped to the walls to find reception.. at reception there were staff talking to each other then I was asked over this talking who I was Formalities over I went to my suite to be greeted by a stained carpet. Black marks in the bottom of the loo. Stains on the side of the bed and no mattress protector Reception said if I could wait a while they could find me another room I asked if I could eat and was directed to the bar. That was closed Though on yet another visit to reception they insisted it was open All in all. DONT GO It’s awful and nothing like the website. There were other people complaining Would not recommend

Doesn’t even deserve a 1. Having to cancel my wedding 6 months before it’s due because the government have taken over the building at such a grand place is disgusting. Talk about getting millions for doing this, your reputation is going to be massively affected.

We have visited many times over a number of years. It was once a very nice hotel. The out side is still stunning but the inside has been neglected. When we first visited a few years ago you had two bars, one on lower level where you could sit out a snooker room, a large dining room a restaurant and you could even have afternoon tea with Prosecco in the stunning foyer. Their was even a gym and pool. What happened! we visited in August of this year for three nights and booked out after just one. Nothing left What a shame.

What you see is not at all what you get. Staff really unfriendly and not helpful at all, bar was freezing cold, information on site not correct, charged us 20£ too much for noisy, small, out of date rooms with view (through a broken window that could not be opened) on a container. Definitely not the 4 star they pretend to be

Booked and whilst on my holiday they cancelled . After 2 days of calling finally got through to someone , no apologies offered just stated they had a contract booking and now have to cancel all bookings. First of all you have a contract to honor with everyone that booked. They are obviously incompetent and Have no manners.

We stayed here for a wedding in September. Let me start with the positives. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The bed was comfy, the towels were nice and there was a Smart TV in the room which was a pleasant surprise. However, the room was terrible. It was small, only one thin pillow per person and not cleaned thoroughly. There were four spiders in the bathroom, cobwebs around all the windows and even cobwebs in the bedside drawer. There was no lightbulb in the bedside lamp, there was a hole in the wall from the door handle and the room was freezing! Tried to turn the heating and it wasn’t working. We informed reception and they told us that there was no heating available! Luckily staff found us an electric heater (the last one we overheard them say). Other guests attending the wedding also complained of the cold rooms. Another thing that bothered me was the passive-aggressive sticker about reusing towels for the environment. Don’t preach sustainability when you are using single use plastic cups and amenities in the room. Another note for amenities, there was no shampoo available. We stayed two nights and had no turndown service offered. This is not a four star hotel. Overall staff were pleasant but there never seemed to be anyone on reception. A lot of the staff were very young and inexperienced. There was one older gentleman in a suit who was waking around everywhere but never seemed to be there when you needed him. During the wedding ceremony, staff were still setting up for the drinks reception - which is fine, except that they were walking around outside in clear view while the couple said their vows! It was distracting for guests and surely there was another route staff could have taken to set up outside. Poor management and hotel rooms in desperate need of renovation. I would not stay here again.

Booked 3 rooms for 2 nights, all left after 1 night. Rooms were poor, showers filthy, lightbulbs out in several lights in one room. No mattress covers and the carpet was dirty/ gritty under foot. Restaurant was mediocre didn’t even have vinegar when 2 of the 3 available choices had chips on the menu, we asked if they did a cheeseboard and the waiter offered cheesecake, buffet breakfast was poor again watery scrambled egg left under a hot plate, honey or marmite was all that was on offer for toast/croissants. The building and grounds outside are beautiful and this hotel could be so much more but I wouldn’t be in a rush to visit

Booked at the last minute relieved to find a dog friendly hotel. Stoke Rochford Hall is exactly how the negative reviews on trip advisor describe it. Beautiful building which needs some tlc and money spent. Interior is tired in the main rooms, and disgustingly filthy in other parts with the legacy of when it was used as a teacher training college very apparent. Hot water is variable, food in the bar and restaurant often not available, though given the poor cleanliness of the public areas I would not like to eat anything that came from an unseen kitchen! This is most definitely not a 4 star hotel as it claims. The corridor to our room in the courtyard was disgusting with holes in the wall, smear marks everywhere and half eaten food on a carpet that had not seen a hoover in a very long time. Our room itself was clean and comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and obviously trying their best, well aware of the poor standards (we heard lots of guests complaining). I would read the reviews as they accurately describe this place, then if you have a sturdy car to get you over the hundreds of potholes on the approach road, and feel this is value for money, then good luck with your stay. I won't be visiting again.

I booked a night's stay inside the actual main hall, and when I arrived, I was told that they were not able to place me there due to a wedding party having booked all of the rooms inside the hotel - I was subsequently placed in an external building block. In addition, I was also advised that the restaurant was closed to guests (other than the wedding party), although "I had probably already been informed about that"! No I hadn't, and it was one of the main reasons I booked there, as I wanted to bring my family for an evening meal. Anyway, after I was given my room key, I walked to the external block, and the corridor was very messy, rubbish and refuse everywhere, takeaway cartons on the window ledges, very bad smells, shoes and sandals in the corridors.... and when I got to my room I found the space either side of the bed was approximately 8 inches, the space in front (to the chest of drawers), 18 inches, a tiny shower and toilet, and nowhere to even place my suitcase, let alone store it. I went back to complain, to be told that there were no other rooms available. An hour later, the Manager came to me and told me they had 'found' a larger room (great, I thought!), so on checking the room, the furniture was sparse, no TV, and I counted at least 10 spiders. That evening, after a 10km drive for some food, I retired to my room - after clearing a few more spiders in the room, I went to sleep, only to be woken up at 2am by another spider crawling across my face! While attempting to catch that one, I saw another crawling up from the gap between the headboard and mattress, so, after catching them both, took the duvet out of the duvet cover, stuffed it down the gap, switched the pillows to the end of the bed and tried to go back to sleep. I awoke at 0600, cold, and decided to take a shower and leave early, but there was no hot water! That was the final straw, I brushed my teeth, packed, got dressed and left the hotel before breakfast.
