Located at the top of Marvao this is an excellent little hotel. Nothing fancy, just very well run by very friendly staff. The journey up is via very narrow streets so be careful, but it is worth it. Free parking very close by.
Our room was well appointed with good air conditioning, lovely bathroom and amazing views.
Breakfast is held in a small cosy dining room, or you can eat on the terrace.
There is a ‘hot tub’ on the terrace for guests to use.
Overall we had a great stay. Fabulous staff who were obviously very proud of their hotel.

If you're looking to stay in Marvão and visit the castle then there is NO BETTER location then Dom Dimis.

First off the staff was great, they allowed me to check in VERY early because they had a room available. The location CAN NOT be beat. You can walk to and from the castle in less then 5 minutes. The town is small so you can walk everywhere within 10 minutes but Dom Dimis is closest to the castle and at the top of the town along the castle walls. There's a nice little outside patio to enjoy the beautiful views of the castle, Spain and Portugal. Additionally there's plenty of parking and a good hearty breakfast if you're a breakfast person.

We had a night at Dom Dinis in the end of December and it was the perfect place to stay to visti Marvão village. The weather was cold and we had a misty evening followed by a beautiful morning made for stunning photos. The lady at the reception welcomed us warmly at the reception and showed us the rooms. The place has the local character and both the room of our friends and ours were heated, cozy, clean and spacious. The only issue was at the breakfast area in the morning that they had just four tables available in a rather small place which were occupied and needed to go back to our rooms are return a bit later. The friendly lady in charge (who was also the previous day at the check-in) tried to help us and suggest to us to have a breakfast at the veranda upstairs if we wanted breakfast immediately. We decided to wait instead. Choices at the breakfast were limited but still enough to start our day! Croissants were delicious! Dom Dinis was a great choice to stay at the beautiful village of Marvão!
Just go for it!

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The road to it through the town is 'interesting' and not recommended for too large a vehicle, but it is so worth it. There is free public parking close to the entrance. The location is fantastic at the top of the town close to the Castle. The receptionist was very friendly and spoke excellent English. Our room like others was cleverly set into the old building. Some have fantastic views down the valley. It was clean and contained everything you could need. My wife found the bed too hard but the staff did their best to rectify this. Breakfast was plentiful and excellent. The bar, owned by the hotel, is located across the road and includes a parrot. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if in Marvao.

This is one my favorite stays on our trip. The staff bent over backwards to make sure we were taken care of. The views were spectacular. The area is quiet almost contemplative. There are only 2 restaurants and a bar so no night life. But you are staying at a castle so how cool is that.

I wanted to stay for a week or more. This sweet hotel is located right next to a park and the Marvao Castelo. The room was wonderful, the breakfast was very good, and the view from the terrace was mind blowing. This a little shangra la, a place to park your feet, read a book, drink wine, all while being on a terrace overlooking majesty.

Great place for a weekend getaway. Very nice staff and very charming hotel. Small rooms but big enough to unwind after a nice day strolling around Marvão. Think about your grandma’s house and that’s the feeling you get here. Duly recommended!!

Our stay with Dom Dinis in Marvão was very pleasant! Dom Dinis is in a great location with beautiful sunset and sunrise view over Alentejo. Our room was very clean and neat. The hosts, Theresa and her husband, run a cafe just a few steps away from their guest house and we really enjoyed our lunch at their cafe. We were spoilt by their great hospitality! Dom Dinis guest house is definitely a place where we would recommend to whoever is visiting Marvão. A double thumbs up to them!

My visit to Marvao was one of the highlights of my travels in Portugal -- or anywhere else, really -- and staying at the Dom Dinis was one of the reasons why. I had noticed that this hotel was consistently recommended in travel articles about Marvao over the years, and for good reason. I arrived shortly before sunset, but the manager gave me great directions by telephone to enable me to find my way through Marvao's streets (most of which are pedestrian only) up to the top of the town where the hotel is located. There is plenty of parking when you arrive. The hotel fronts on a small square and an elaborate garden with the town museum (in a converted church) on the other side of it and the castle beyond the garden at the top of the hill. My room (# 14) was small, but comfortable, with a modern bathroom and a view towards the castle. A good and filling breakfast was served on a terrace with to-die-for views out over the Serra de Mamede. I was able to get up in the morning and walk up to the castle at 7:30 a.m. and tour through it when I had the place to myself before breakfast. Marvao itself, though small, has a couple of good restaurants (one of which, the Varanda, is owned by members of the same family that owns the Dom Dinis). Beyond that, however, the town has a timeless, end-of-the-world feeling: the silence once dark descends is deep as velvet. And the price of my night's stay with breakfast was $80 US. Does travel get any better than that?
