Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great hotel in an ideal location looking out over Falesia beach. All the staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms kept clean. Lunch was cooked fresh from a set menu everyday and evening meal was buffet with plenty of choice. Just a short walk into town to the bars and restaurants if you want to go out, and a short walk down to the beach. Would stay here again if returning to the area.

Stayed a week for a winter break from the cold and wet of the UK. We had four days of good weather but three with rain! We were in room 541 which had good views over the outside pool and bay. It had a balcony which attracted the sun in the mornings. The room was spacious with a twin bed , easy chairs and a good shower. Plus the usual toiletries, kettle etc. Our package included private transfers to and from the airport which was excellent. We also had vouchers for some meals and could purchase more. The food was mostly buffet style with a huge choice including vegetarian meals. Mostly the food was good although they struggled at breakfasts to keep some things topped up plus the vegetarian food was not hot. We ate in the table service restaurant, La Basilica, one evening which also had a local singer and accompaniment. The hotel is situated on the edge of the village amongst a number of other hotels but was an easy walk into the village and beach. The hotel has an indoor pool as well as the outdoor one, a spa, jacuzzi and steam room. There were also classes in Tai chi, yoga etc. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were informed the hotel is closing later in the year for a refurbishment which is why some facilitites eg some of the lockers for the indoor pool weren’t working.

We are just home from a week's stay at the Porto Bay. We normally stay at the Tui Blue but decided to try another hotel in Olhos. Regretted our decision but the Porto Bay is fine and we had an enjoyable week away. We loved the view from our room over the sea and the sandstone cliffs. The beds are super comfortable and the room was one of the refurbished ones so was modern in appearance. The breakfast area is well stocked l but hectic in the mornings and they have no vegan options other than beans and eggs. Here the Tui blue shines out as better as they have a whole vegan section on each buffet morning and evening. The Porto bay labels their food which is great but maybe adding in vegan cheese in the mornings would help. And not just lactose free yogurt which are not vegan. An older age profile is evident here too so maybe less vegan guests. The indoor pool opens quite late at 8.00 am and is way too hot. It was like taking a bath. 31degress C is very warm but the pool area is nice and calm and has a Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna but the last two have to be booked and paid for a minimal fee Why? Covid is over now so can not see the reason not to have open access. The food in their onsite pool restaurant is awful. Soggy salads pre dressed making the meal unappetizing .Go elsewhere for lunch. We went back to the Tui Blue for a superior lunch time menu but that ends at the end April when they move to AI. We feel the Porto bay is battling with a building that needs a complete revamp, some sections are so old now it is a shame and no amount of cosmetic fix ups will help. We found ants in our room on the last day and overall the standard of cleaning is not as high as that in the Tui blue next door. I hope when they take over this hotel next season that they keep the cleaning staff on as they do the hotel proud. So to round off, our week at the Porto bay was fine and enjoyable but had its niggles. This Porto bay is nothing like as good as the Porto Bay hotels in Madeira.

My husband and I visited for 5 nights in March for our babymoon. Unfortunately we arrived late at night and discovered the aircon/heating system in our room was broken and we had to be moved however this was handled very quickly. It was just inconvenient as we arrived so late and had already unpacked before we discovered the issue. We really enjoyed the room- agree with some reviews that say the rooms are a bit dated however this would not put us off as they are still very clean and to a high standard. Beds are extremely comfortable. Rituals toiletries in the bathroom is a really lovely bonus. The breakfast buffet is excellent- the hot food was not to our taste however there were plenty of other options to choose from like cereals, fruits, breaks, pancakes, pastries etc. The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous and there are many nice places to just sit and relax, not just by the pool, the look out points were our favourite. We also took the steps down to the beach one day which was lovely and easily manageable for me at 6 months pregnant! We ate around the local area for lunch/evening meals and also got Ubers in to the Old Town which was very handy. Would highly recommend Frank's near the hotel for amazing high quality food. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and would be particularly keen to return once the refurbishments to the rooms are complete.

Dear Guest, We would like to thank you for sharing your opinion about our hotel. We regret that we were unable to meet your expectations. We will pay attention to your notes so that we can improve the points you mentioned. We inform you that the hotel is fully booked with a check out at 12.00 which does not allow a check in at 11.00. We understand your dissatisfaction but check in is from 14.00 to give us time to clean the rooms. Check in and check out times are clearly announced in the hotel information. Best regards,

We have stayed at PortoBay Falésia several times and have always enjoyed the experience. A sea view room makes our visit special. The quality and range of food in the Madeira restaurant, for breakfast or dinner, is exceptional.
