I booked this hotel due to its proximity to the airport and because we were arriving from the west coast of the U.S. well after midnight.

We arrived exhausted and were informed that we could not have 4 people in our room. I traveled with my two daughters and their friend. All we wanted to do was lie down, catch a few hours of sleep and leave to pick up our rental car at 8 a.m.

After much discussion, begging, and pleading, the hotel continued to tell us “no” that we couldn’t have 2 people per bed. Admittedly, this was an error on my part. However, Hotel Monaco was 100% unwilling to help us out and we had no where else to go at 1 a.m.

We were forced to pay full price ($230) for an extra room. They would not even consider giving us a small discount for the confusion and it was obvious that the room would not be otherwise rented at that hour.

The rooms were dilapidated and outdated. Worse than a Motel 6 in the U.S. and definitely not worth $230, but they had the leverage.

On a positive note, the breakfast was great!

The front desk staff was not very nice and lacked customer service skills. Another example is that when we asked to use the airport shuttle to go get our rental car, it seemed like a major inconvenience instead of asking to use a free service provided by the hotel.

Overall, this was a poor start to our Portugal vacation and this is the very first bad review I have ever written on Trip Advisor. I was so displeased, I was compelled to put this writing.

The hotel is a very short trip the to the airport and convenient if you arrive in the middle of the night. Even still, I would never stay here again out of principal.

Good hotel close to airport. Decent but basic breakfast. Rooms very nice and comfortable beds. Nowhere to get a drink in the hotel between 10.30 am when breakfast finishes and 4pm when bar opens. With no coffee making facilities in room this was disappointing.

Staff generally very friendly.

Pretty much need bus or taxi to go anywhere as location not great - unless you want it close to airport for work reasons, in which case it’s fine.

Shuttle bus not offered to us so not sure it was available when we traveled.

As a mum travelling alone with child I asked if I could have a later checkout ( just 2 hours extra to prevent us from having nowhere to go but flatly refused by Joana on reception. Told I’d need to pay a whole extra nights accommodation for this. Other than this I was happy with the accommodation.

Rooms cleaned daily. Pool cleaned daily.
Food at bar basic - burgers & pizza but ok. Not Portuguese food as advertised though.

All in all an average hotel & served our needs for couple of nights

I really enjoyed this hotel. It's a distance from all the faro amenities, but it only a few euros in an Uber to reach the heart of faro. There is a free shuttle bus each morning and evening to take you to and from the faro old town and the beach, but we chose to do things on our own schedule.

It was only my son and I who stayed here for 4 nights. We loved how quiet the pool area was, and spent lots of time there. The hotel is basic, but clean and served our needs well. The air conditioning in the room was a must! The rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff were all friendly, particularly the lady working at the bar. The hotel was clean, although a little dated. But that didn't bother us. Breakfast wasn't the best I've seen, but we enjoyed what he ate. Quality of food in general was poor. We had dinner by the pool one night, and it was terrible. But that is the only negative of our holiday.

We booked the shuttle bus to take us to the airport after check out. This was a seamless process, and it was very helpful. All in all, we enjoyed our few days spent at hotel Monaco.

Enjoyed a 3 night stay at Hotel Monaco in Faro, upon arrival was greeted at reception and quickly got my key to the room on the 3rd floor.
The room was very modern, the staff had closed the curtains so the room was cool. Air conditioned unit kept the room Icy cold which suits me, very comfortable bed with a small lcd tv mounted above a small desk. Hdmi plugs behind tv if you wish to pop in your fire stick.
Complementary wifi with speeds good enough for streaming Netflix etc
Small balcony so if you wish can sit out, the bathroom was of average size with a bath tub with over head shower. Adequate for showering!
Plenty of storage space, small safe and a fridge to keep your drinks cold.
Small pool outside with plenty of loungers although I never used this.
The bar is quite spacious and the bar staff very attentive to your requests.
I read a few bad reviews about breakfast, well yes it’s served in the basement but is well lite and decorated. Plenty of choices for all, only hot items were scrambled eggs and local sausages. Staff constantly kept all the food stocked up and kept the area clean.

Overall I’d stay here again, Uber to/from airport 6 euro (although there is a shuttle) only 5 min journey and around 8 euro to Faro town centre less than 10 mins so it’s a handy base.

Also free parking in the small street outside and is mainly in a residential area which is very quiet day/night.

Our flight was delayed by 48hours and EasyJet put us into this hotel. From the outside and reception it looks ok and it says it is a 4star..most certainly not! The bedroom is very basic, no kettle or even a glass. Bed was not comfy. The bathroom has a shower over the bath and the smallest of bath towels. The view from the window was a large wall. We went to breakfast on the first morning, it is in the basement and the room felt really depressing, more like a school canteen. Not a lot of choice. There was a container with what was meant to be scrambled egg and next t it one with hot dog sausages in a fluid. Both look terrible. The orange juice comes from a machine and was like a sweet syrup.
We were told that we had vouchers for dinner. I asked if they catered for vegetarians and the reply was I could have soup or salad. The hotel is near the airport but there is no other cafes near by so we went to Faro by bus.
On return for dinner we were pointed in the direction of the bar, there is no restaurant. A number of people sat in at tables, no barman in sight but a lot of crashing noise coming from the back of the bar. The menu was very basic, pizzas, burgers etc. After about 30 minutes a male looking very flustered appeared and told us we would have to wait as he very busy. No hello at all. He was the barman, cook, washer-up and waiter. I went out and asked the young girl at reception if they had any staff and it was just her and him. I asked to speak to the manager to be told no one was at the hotel. I asked her to call the manager o I cold speak on the phone. She did make a call but didn't get to speak to her. After a hour and half my partners meal burger and chips arrived. The burgers looked slimy and were not cooked. The meal got handed back and we gave up. The following morning we went to breakfast and the tea and coffee machine wasn't working and still a poor show of food. The management should be ashamed. Go the Eva Senses Hotel in Faro and see how a real 4 star hotel is run.

I was unable to travel to faro on the dates specified for my stay book through Booking.com. Having given st least a months notice I asked for either a refund (them not to take the money) or to move the booking. I must have emailed them at least 6 times. They couldn’t be bothered to even reply on more than one automated email saying the booking was non cancelable. I asked to speak with one one. No reply. Now they have taken my money as a no show. Terrible. Advise avoid. If that’s what they are like before you even get there…!

Old facilities
A soap from previous guests was left in the bathroom, that made me wonder about the cleanliness and professionalism of the cleaning teams.
No one made up the room and I did not hang the do not disturb sign. When asked at the reception I was informed that I had to put the sign to made up the room, but no one informed me about that rule. When I asked about the yellow book to write my complaint they showed resistance.

After British Airways left the plane full of passengers stranded without any help at Faro airport, we ended up at the Monaco hotel by chance, just after midnight. The reception staff were brilliant, really kind, and in the morning helped us to do what was impossible the night before - to get a taxi to our original destination of Malaga. We didn’t see too much of the hotel but it was clean, comfortable and with a nice breakfast. It was the kindness of the people that made it special.

My wife and I spent 1 week at the Monaco in June last year. On the plus side, the rooms are fine for the hotel classification, the service was good and the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel has a comfortable bar with a large screen television. There is a pleasant but small pool area which was never crowded. One of the main problems with the hotel is it's location which is just off of a main road opposite an area of waste land (at least it was last year) and on the edge of a residental area. There are a couple of resturants about a 20 min. walk away and a few shops. The beach is about 3Km away as is Faro town. The hotel claims to have a shuttle bus to the beach and Faro, this service was never available when requested and in any case, ceased operating after 5.00pm. The hotel has a resturant located in a fairly gloomy room below ground level, with no natural light. Breakfasts are buffet style, are the same each day and comprised of the usual selection of bread and preserves complemented with salty canned sausages, scrambled egg ,canned fruit and fruit drinks(not juice). I can honestly say that it was the least imaginative breakfast I have ever had in a hotel of this catagory, and in an area with so much wonderful fresh produce! It is fair to say that, one evening we did try the resturant for dinner an it wasn't that bad. All in all this hotel is fine for a one night stop, two at the most but if you do not have your own transport do not even consider it.

Aalesley I do not know about the times that the shuttle operates, but the desk staff drive it and I suppose it will depend if 2 staff are available on the hotel desk when you arrive. I would suggest that you email or phone the hotel first - the English of all the people we dealt with on reception was excellent. If the shuttle does not operate when you need it, the hotel is only a very short taxi ride, costing 7 or 8 Euros. There is a taxi rank not far from the arrivals hall, but if no taxis are there, the taxi operators have a central number, (Faro taxis are run as some sort of co-operative), that we used several times. This is 00351289895795. They were very reliable. Terry
