First time we had visited Faro, have to say it has taken us by surprise, the people, old town/cathedral, restaurants, bars & food are all great.

The hotel itself is 4 star, the real star of the hotel is the breakfast, I've only had breakfasts like that in genuine 5 star hotels, the food is amazing, combined with the lovely restaurant & the fantastic rooftop terrace, one of the big highlights of our holiday was sitting having a coffee (or 2 plus breakfast treats) sitting on the terrace & watching the world go by in the marina.

There is no beach nearby so without transport may not be the best location for families with young children, although a catamaran ride (around 35 euros each) is well worth the money & will take you to some beautiful islands & beaches, apparently from June the hotel lays on a shuttle to take you to their beach club, but wasn't available in May.

There seemed to be plenty of ATM's but they are expensive to use, bank exchange rate in the UK is about 1.18, using an ATM worked out about 1.05, we think taking cash (which a lot of restaurants insisted on) is probably a good idea.

The pool & sun area is very simple but perfectly adequate, nice sun beds, free towels (nicely laundered), there never seemed to be an issue getting beds, although our trip didn't include the weekend. The pool is basically an over-sized jacuzzi. The whole area is surrounded by glass so no issues with wind.

The room although ours was just a standard room, was well presented, twin beds joined together to make a superking, the bedding as were the towels of really good quality, there are usb sockets at the bedside (both sides), a good hairdryer in the bathroom, a fridge & safe are provided, if I have any sort of criticism but wasn't an issue for us, there are no coffee making facilities, small paper cups are provided but no glasses, the room was serviced every day.

The hotel is about a 15-20 minute taxi ride from the airport, cost around 10 euros, although the airport is quite close we never found noise from the planes a problem, in fact a lot of people (myself included) tried to capture planes in 'unusual positions', above peoples heads etc.

We ate out everyday, not once did we have a poor meal, plenty of choice of cuisines, we ate regularly on a lunchtime at Rua De Conselheiro (adjacent the hotel), this avenue comes to life on a night, shouldn't be missed with la Forchetta perhaps our favourite, prices for meals varied between 30 & 80 euros for 2 people, often 2 courses plus a couple of drinks/bottle of wine.

We stayed for 3 nights in January before moving onto the Algarve for a few more days. I must admit I had deliberated between this hotel and the Hotel Eva Senses which is also situated overlooking the Marina but chose Hotel Faro instead (if you want a balcony you may prefer Eva Senses). Getting there was easy from the airport as the Bus (think it was No. 16 - you can pay on board) was already pulling in as we came out of arrivals at the airport. Journey was about 25 mins and then you turn right out of the Bus Terminal and you can see the Hotel Faro a few mins walk up on the left on the corner. Easy! Check in was straight forward and the receptionist very helpful. We had rooms on the third floor, just under the restaurant, which had views towards the marina one way and over a derelict property the other (see photos) but we slept well and were very comfortable.

The one thing that makes this hotel is the restaurant/bar on the roof terrace (and small pool/jacuzzi area which was out of action when we were there) which has a fabulous view of the marina. We had dinner there the first night which was very nice, but a bit of a limited and fussy menu and more pricey than the local restaurants nearby. Service was attentive and the food was good. Breakfasts there were fabulous with a tremendous buffet choice of options. We grazed for a good hour each day enjoying a leisurely and hearty spread to set us up for the day. After breakfast we would take a coffee outside and sit in the sun on the more sheltered part of the wrap-around decking area. We also had a few drinks up there in the evenings watching the sun go down over the horizon. Very nice!

Faro itself had a a nice old town area with the Cathedral where you can climb up the bell tower and the rest of Faro was streets of shops, restaurants and cafes and about a 10 min walk max to the Church of Bones which we also visited. Our 2nd day in Faro we decided to catch the bus to Estoi (again easy from the Terminal) to visit the Palace de Estoi which was very pleasant on a sunny day in January even though a little confusing to find at first when you arrive in Estoi. Afterwards, we just had a toastie at the cafe in front of the church on the main square. The 2 nights we dined out we went to Faaron Steak House on a street behind the hotel (great steaks and popular) and Bel'Antonio on a neighbouring street near the hotel for a simple pasta or pizza (small inside and busy).

We enjoyed our stay but after 3 nights we were ready to move on to the Algarve for the rest of our time in Portugal.

We are so glad we found this hidden gem. Our weekend in Faro was perfect. We felt perfectly safe at the hotel during the chaos of Covid. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and staff were constantly cleaning in the communal areas. All staff wore masks and a safe pack was given to everyone in our party which contained mask, gloves and hand sanitizer. Breakfast times were very well organised and the food itself was excellent. Loved having breakfast each morning on the rooftop watching the world go by. The sunsets from the rooftop bar and the views are amazing. The rooms are basic but fine for our needs, spotlessly clean and prepared every day and the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. There was free transport each day to the beach and beach club which is just about 10 minutes drive. What a beautiful beach and the drinks and food at the beach club couldn't be faulted. We will definitely be going back to this lovely hotel

We had already stayed two nights in another hotel in Faro, then traveled East for a few days, so this was our return for our last two days in Portugal. The Hotel Faro is in a great location for exploring the city on foot. Nothing is too far to walk, and you are surrounded by restaurants and bars. The crowning glory of this hotel is of course the rooftop restaurant and bar, which is a great place to watch the amazing sunsets with a drink in hand. ( But of course you could easily go here for a drink even if you're not a guest!). The buffet breakfast was good and plentiful, fresh orange juice and pancakes a highlight for me. Just a warning about the rooms - avoid room 317 . We found we were directly below all the kitchen equipment so had a poor first night's sleep accompanied by permanent mechanical humming. But the helpful reception and portering staff moved us to a better ( and upgraded) room for our second night. I asked to to speak to the manager who I have to say was absolutely charming and very apologetic. He then gave us a voucher for free cocktails in the bar which was a nice touch, and all the staff are very friendly and of course speak beautiful English ( apologies for my poor Portuguese!), The underground parking isn't free, but we used the free car par up by the old town walls, which is only an easy 10 minute walk. Faro is a great place for a weekend, and this is a lovely hotel.

Modern hotel in prime location overlooking the harbour and on the edge of Faro centre so walking distance to restaurants, cafes and shops. The hotel is modern with minimalist decor and very clean throughout.
Rooms are a good size, well decorated and very clean. There is a small gym on the !st floor which is free, there is also a sauna but there is an additional charge to use this.
The best part of the hotel is the 4th floor restaurant, bar, lounge and pool area.
The pool is small but heated, the bar / lounge provides an excellent viewpoint across the harbour. We only used the restaurant for the buffet breakfast which was excellent and very well stocked.
Service throughout the hotel was great.
We enjoyed our stay and am very happy to recommend.

Pros: clean room, decent size, fridge was useful. Shower was good pressure. Breakfast was good selection, though at busy times food did run sparse before being topped up. Great location to to old town, bars and restaurants.

Cons: our wine was corked at dinner, but we were still charged full price. We had an additional charge on our bill at checkout from the restaurant which we had not had and they had no receipt for, but they delayed us twenty minutes sorting it out which made us late for our transfer. Roof top pool was heated, but no where near warm enough.

This hotel has been one of our favourites we have stayed in by far. The food and cocktails are exquisite in addition to the most friendly staff who were so accommodating and helpful.
Their espresso martini has been the most delicious I have ever had. The pool is small but never too busy which was lovely. The rooms were spotlessly clean. Our room was located facing a main street and we never heard any noise late at night going to sleep. There is a shuttle bus to the local beach also where you can get 10% food and drinks in the beach club if you mention you are a guest at the hotel.
The breakfast buffet had a huge and delicious variety from fresh fruit, to freshly baked pastries (savoury and sweet!), to fried eggs, bacon and all your full Irish/English needs
We would highly recommend.

We stayed in Hotel Faro as part of our Jet2 city break. The hotel is based about 11 minutes drive from the airport so we just got an Uber which cost about €6 each way. The room was spotless and cleaned every morning when we went for our breakfast. Breakfast was located on the rooftop of the hotel, the selection was amazing with pastries, fruit, cereal and cooked breakfast too. They served freshly squeezed orange juice which was gorgeous😍 The view from the rooftop was lovely looking over the marina and we sat outside every morning people watching with our breakfast. We also visited the rooftop bar one afternoon as well I got a lovely strawberry mojito🍹They also have a pool on the rooftop which we didn’t get chance to visit but definitely would if we go back! The hotel is right in the centre with plenty of bars and restaurants around, there’s ferry’s about a 5 minute walk that you can get on to visit Faro beach and it’s about a 35 minute drive to Albufeira about €25 in an Uber. We were able to leave our luggage at the hotel when we arrived as we had an early flight and arrived a few hours before check in and we’re also able to leave it before our late flight going home. Only disappointment we had with the hotel is that check in was from 2pm and our room wasn’t ready until 2:30pm which wasn’t great after a long morning of travelling. But I would definitely recommend this hotel it’s in an ideal area for a city getaway.

We stayed at Hotel Faro for four nights last year and enjoyed it so much we decided to return for a week this year. We were welcomed back by the friendly staff at reception who were helpful throughout our stay. The room was clean and comfortable and provided everything we needed. The breakfast was excellent with a huge selection of well presented hot and cold food which we enjoyed outside on the rooftop terrace in the sun. The hotel is ideally positioned close the bus and rail station so we were able to visit different places in the Algarve.

We bought our stay as part of a package from Jet2. The hotel is ideally located being 5 mins walk from the bus or train station and only 10 euro taxi ride from the airport.
The hotel has had a freshen up in the last couple of years. Simple makeover but tastefully done.
The entrance is up half a dozen steps but disabled clients have a lift.

The staff are all genuinely friendly and are really interested in making your stay enjoyable. The roof top terrance and bar is where meals are taken. Relaxing view over the harbour. Sunday Brunch is worth it for people who appreciate food quality but not liked by those that prefer quantity
