Vila Belgica is a lovely Bed and Breakfast situated on a hill overlooking the town, the ocean and Pico. The host was very welcoming and friendly. We checked into the Atlantic room was quite lovely and had a nice patio. Parking was a bit tricky, but manageable. Unfortunately we were unable to complete our stay here and had to change accommodations shortly after checking in due to the cats on premises. The listing states that it is not a pet friendly accommodation and that pets are not allowed, but there are multiple cats and a dog that live on premises. The host stated that one of the cats knows how to open the window screen and enter the room. She also stated that she took in a couple of stray kittens very recently. With my husband's strong cat allergies and the fact that I'm pregnant and should not be around stray/outdoor cats due to risk of toxoplasma, we unfortunately had to leave after being on property for about an hour and a half. We were refunded all but 10 euros to cover the cost of laundry as we sat on the bed while trying to figure out alternative accommodations. We were sad we could not stay and enjoy this B&B, and recommended it to anyone that does not have an issue with animals.…
On arrival Yvette was waiting for us because she had an appointment in town later that afternoon. We were not that late and a note on our roomdoor was okay for us, but now she made us feel late. Yvette makes a very nice breakfast with different bread and a freshly baked egg every day. In the breakfastroom/kitchen there is a fridge that guests can use for their own stuff or the take a drink (honestylist). The B&B lies on a hill just a few minutes by car outside of Horta. The views of Faial, Pico and Sao Jorge are very good. The terrace on top of our room (Atlantic I think) is a good place for an afternoon drink. If you want to stay in Horta, don't stay here. But if you don't mind driving a few minutes and sleep (comfy beds) quiet, this is the place to stay. Parking your car (take a small one) is on a narrow side street. One day we were just home for a few minutes and didn't want to park the car difficult so we took Yvettes for a minute. We shouldn't have we noticed when she got home. We have mixed feelings about our host: friendly, explaining about the area and the restaurants, but also not so flexible, which as travellers we are.…
I found Villa Belgica a beautiful house with a lovely garden. Location is also great, high up the hill offering marvellous views of Horta and Pico mountain. It is about a 10 minutes drive to Horta. I had a very large room with a comfortable bed. Good breakfast, really nice to serve 2 different kinds of fruit every day. Very small parking in front of the villa.
Relaxing stay at this gem of a B&B. Yvette provided excellent breakfasts each day. Room was clean and comfortable. Short drive into town where there are good restaurants and a busy marina. The grounds and the views of Pico were breathtaking!
*Truth be told we were there in June 2018. Someone was asking about Faial and it reminded me to write a review. I didn't realize she was on Trip Advisor or I would've written one last year. Yvette is an incredible lady! Her place is beautiful with the most amazing views! Her breakfasts are so delicious. Her recommendations are spot on. I would highly recommend her Bed and Breakfast as a first choice to stay on Faial. I hope to return someday.
