Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a great hotel! It has individual style, is clean, comfortable, and well kept. The staff were wonderful, particularly the restaurant team who served us well towards closing time, due to a flight delay. I make a special mention of Gabriele S and Milton A who were very welcoming and helpful; and a big "Thank You" to the hotel team for the gift of bubbly and cake for my Wife's milestone birthday.

We were very excited when we first walked into the hotel. It seemed charming. We had organized in advance the ability to pay for suite upgrades. They were inexpensive and well worth it. The young lady at check in (Iris) was pleasant. The problems began when the sun went down. Outside our window was a large gathering of homeless folks. They were drinking, loud, singing, playing music and partaking in drugs! We looked out the window to see a guy lighting up a pipe - but couldn't tell if it was marijuana or crack... but clearly not a tobacco pipe! The women in our group did not feel comfortable going outside without our entire group (5 men and 2 women). It's sad because the area was beautiful at night. The front desk staff (other than Iris) were less than friendly. A bit stand-offish, and could not provide basic city information on where to find open restaurants or bars/pubs. Again ... unfortunate as we were really left to ourselves to find places. To top it off, most of the restaurants in Ponta Delgado are closed on Saturday and Sunday? What? Closed on the weekend? This of course was not the fault of hotel, but the staff was very unwilling to help us with suggestions. We did eat one night in the hotel restaurant. The food was excellent the price was good. Carla (our waitress) was very accommodating and very efficient. Kudos to her. Finally -- I think we were sleeping on concrete! The beds were the most uncomfortable we had encountered on our trip. Really hard. Some people like firm - but HARD is really uncomfortable. Woke up more sore than when we went to bed. All in all, nice location, and restaurant dinners were good. Service (in general) was poor and the homeless situation around the hotel makes this a less than desirable location. Would likely not stay here again.

We arrived the hotel after 6 1/2 flight delay - T&T (tired and frustrated)! Thanks to Carla & Carolina with their calm & bright smile. Things have been not just good but VERY good for the rest of our stay! The breakfast buffet cooking with HEART. We didn't try the lunch & dinner even we plan to try the 1st night but so many choices near by! We can't wait to return to The Azores islands and Hotel Tailsman is on top of our list in Sao Miguel!!

My husband and I stayed here for one night in late June 2023. We arrived around 7:30 am (a 10-minute taxi ride from the airport, 10 euros). PROS: Location, Professional Staff, Cleanliness What would I change? The ensuite bathroom was a bit dated. The reception staff was very nice and professional. They are highly fluent in English and answered all of our questions, including giving great recommendations for places to eat. The hotel was fully booked, so we could not check in immediately (our room was ready at 1:50pm). However, they were able to store our luggage in a place that we could access it as we needed until our room was ready. They also offered us the use of toilets and a nice living room area on the first floor. The location of the hotel is very central. You can walk to just about anything in town. We even walked to the pineapple plantation, which was quite a hike, but manageable. If you do need a taxi, they are plentiful. The front desk is happy to call one for you. (There are no Ubers or Lyfts.) We asked for a quiet room and they delivered! Our room (210) was located back a long hallway away from others. The window faced the courtyard area. It was very quiet. It was a spacious room with room to lay out our luggage, a nice table and chair, credenza with kettle and TV. The bathroom had the sink and closet separated from the toilet/bidet/shower. Everything was clean and well-maintained. A note for Americans: The outlets were all sunken, so we could not use the power adapters that we brought. Our adapters were designed for flat outlets. Look for adapters that will work with a sunken outlet. The rooftop pool was very nice. It also connects to the gym area, which had all the basics. Even if you don’t plan on using the pool/gym, make a trip to the roof. There are amazing views of the island!! We had breakfast at the hotel. It was a nice buffet spread with typical fair (eggs, beans, tomatoes, bacon/sausage, toast, yogurts, granola, pastries, fruit). There was also a waffle machine and a cappuccino machine. They also serve lunch and dinner. We had a refillable water bottle for excursions and the staff was happy to fill it up for us at breakfast.

Excellent hotel with great customer service. In center of town. Rooms were very big. Hotel is certainly 5 star for the customer service. Room has a fridge and coffee maker. Very very clean. Has a swimming pool with a small park in front of the hotel.

We had a relatively good stay, however, with a couple quirks. One was our room which was located fronting the outdoor garden which now appears to be a hang out at all hours of the day and night. Most nights were noisy and disruptive to our sleep. All staff were friendly and welcoming namely front desk, our house keeper and Carla and the young lady in training at the bar. However, with the exception of one particular lady working at breakfast was unfriendly and border-line rude. We also found that breakfast was a bit disappointing and undesirable. Eggs were always cold. Cold eggs are not something nice to eat. We believe that management should seriously consider offering fresh eggs done to guests liking a la carte. The fresh cheese didn’t seem to be that fresh? The only thing we found to be fresh was the bread. Also, Having fresh brewed coffee served at the table would be a nice touch. Coffee machines are something one would expect in a school cafeteria not at a 4 star hotel. It’s okay that guests completely serve themselves etc etc but it lacks a personable experience especially when it didn’t appear to be that busy for the staff. In a good note, location is great and conveniently near various restaurants, coffee shops, shopping and waterfront.

Great location, good breakfast, comfortable bed. Though, our room didn't come with nice view, and A/C didn't run well. (Possibly, we didn't set correctly.) We opened the window, then, the noise from the kitchen was a bit loud. TV has so many choices including English channels. Pool was nice, but small. Bathroom was big and clean.

The hotel is beautiful and has a very nice location in the center of the town and not too far from the marina at all. While each room is a little different in dimensions and layout, I found that it added to the charm of the building. We did have some trouble with the climate control (either being too hot or cold.) The restaurant in the hotel was absolutely delicious if a little more expensive than some of the other restaurants nearby. The reception staff were very helpful and available every time we needed something. My biggest complaint is not really with the hotel, but there are many beggars who would catch you on the way out of the door. Other than that, we had a pleasant stay.

It ticks all the boxes. We stayed there for 6 nights and were totally satisfied . The reception staff, the room and the restaurant were all great and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. They have their own carpark which costs a very reasonable 6 euros per night. We did not use the pool or gym as we were too busy visiting the incredible island.I would highly recommend this hotel for everything. It suited us perfectly . We would certainly choose to stay there again.
