Set on the absolute waterfront of Cascais’s dramatic Atlantic coastline, Farol Hotel reflects the unique charm of the township. Delightful old-world houses and cobbled streets frame a graceful bay on Portugal’s spectacular Estoril Coast to tell the story of a bygone era. The capital, Lisbon and the international airport are an easy 35-minute drive along excellent roads. A local train also runs between the city and Cascais. Lisbon is served by full service and budget airlines from all the major European hubs, which include Frankfurt, Paris, London and Zurich plus Stockholm, and Moscow. Arrive fuss-free and in style at Lisbon International Airport with a pre-arranged Farol Hotel limousine to meet you and transfer the short scenic trip to Cascais. As a proud member of prestigious Design Hotels, Farol Hotel is a wonderfully eclectic composition of adventurous architecture that embraces a remodeled 19th century private mansion that was once owned by the Count of Cabral, together with unique contemporary additions. The result is an inspire union of the old and the new. The Farol Hotel has a non-smoking policy in all its areas.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Bait and switch. Due to a mixup in our reservation we had prepaid for the wrong night. Hotel manager agreed to swap the reservation without penalty then refused to issue a credit at checkout. So we stayed one night and paid for 2. Geraldo Rivera looking Rico Suave dude was quite a smooth talker but just completely lied to us with a straight face. Nice hotel but integrity is in very short supply.

We spent the afternoon at the pool as guests and for the 75 Euro fee it included food and drinks. It was a wonderful day especially because the pool employees- Francisco and Alex - were absolutely gracious and helpful which made our afternoon even better. The pool overlooks the ocean and it was dreamy watching the passing boats, swimmers and wave runners on such a sunny breezy day.

Worst hotel experience - very run down but still charging designer prices. Most of the rooms are extremely small, there is a terrible smell, staff seems understandably unhappy. Many so called "sea view" rooms are facing the ocean but are below ground level so all you see is rocks and a public walkway. Multiple attempts to reach manager and no response. Ruined our weekend in Portugal. Extremely overpriced.

We had our laptop sunglasses credit card money and watch stolen from our bags whilst we at breakfast! We were ushered into a room away from the other guests by the manager Ana Maria Taverner we waited hours for the police and in the meantime was told we should of kept everything in the safe we were at breakfast for an hour and had packed our bags for check out we were then left with the police and she disappeared either the guests are thrives or the staff! I never post negative stuff and we was having a great time but beware of this place they seem more bothered about their name than the criminal activity that took place!!

They need to do a major renovation in the rooms as well as in the front desk. I felt for the prices they charge, the front desk should be more approachable and helpful; The bathrooms are way too old and the rooms’ wood-floors make a squeaky noise that only proves they need to be remodeled. Only the outside has been improved, but the rooms are just not worth the price. Won’t stay here again.

This hotel is in a spectacular location in a beautiful area near Lisbon. Lot of potential but fell way short - tries way too hard to be cool, hip and modern, but unfortunately misses the mark on most details which are important when paying this much for a hotel (it’s priced like a 5 star hotel but felt more like a 3 star). The room was not what we booked, the air didn’t work and it was entirely too funky for any normal adult. The bathroom had a clear glass door and the bedroom had a huge window looking into the entire bathroom that had a shade which produced no privacy. Just odd. Why is this necessary? The good news is that if you’re not watching your partner in the bathroom you can look at the spectacular view of the ocean! To be fair, they did move us to an upgraded room which was nice (and functional) which we appreciated. The staff was moderately friendly and kinda / sorta helpful but seemed somewhat untrained for running a fairly expensive hotel. No hello when we arrived, goodbye can we help on the departure. Just watched us leave. Again, not the biggest deal but when taken with everything else left a bad taste. The breakfast area overlooked the ocean which is amazing but the food was mediocre and the selection very limited…and a serve yourself model. They kindly pointed me to the coffee machine the first day. Ok for a Holiday Inn Express but not a “luxury” hotel. And there was a ceiling fixture so low in front of the food I had to duck to walk by. Would not go back to this hotel.

We visited the Farol hotel for dinner. We had previously visited some 5 years earlier and it was always on our list if we returned to Cascais. This hotel is very quirky and dedicated a lot of its floor and wall space to art which gives it a very unique feel. There was some disappointment on arrival when we were informed that the bar was closed as it now only opened for the winter. The summer bar is now outside which was ironic as this was the coldest and windiest night I had ever experienced in Cascais. There seemed to no flexibility and so cocktails had to be taken in the lounge which was not the same. The meal was excellent, not cheap but good value for money. Even if you cannot afford to stay at this hotel, try and visit you will not be disappointed.

Well, I may be biased because we just stayed in 2 other 5 stars hotels, but this one is just not on the same level. I give it 10/10 on location, lobby, and pool area. Our room on the other hand was very dated. We saw some pictures of other rooms that look more updated but ours for sure was not. No full size mirror, no charging outlets for phones. We brought adapters, but all outlets were taken up with lamps and the tv. The tub height made it difficult to access and water was all over the place because of the type of shower head. The water pressure if very good. Breakfast is fine.
