The hotel is located in Cascais, just arround the corner from the marina. It´s inserted in a complex composed by a lovely (restaured) lighthouse, Old Palace, 18th century building now used as a disco (trendy place!) and the hotel. Outside a large parking space and a small garden surround the old building next to the new hotel wing. Inside the...

I did struggle to believe that this was a 5 start hotel. The level of service was excellent, and we were immediately made to feel welcome. But the 'standard' room we had was of a very poor quality of finish. We felt that the room had not been refurbished in quite some time and found stains and general poor quality...

This hotel is superbly located at the Boca de inferno, where the Atlantic ocean endlessly crashes onto the rocks of Cascais. The bar is the ideal place from which to observe the drama. Sample the excellent sushi and a local wine. Sheer bliss! We visited in December when the place was decorated for Christmas in an elegant, contemporary style -...

Spent 24 hours on our wedding anniversary at this recently renovated boutique hotel. Rooms individually designed by a selection of well-known Portuguese designers. We chose the Ana Salazar room - sheer luxury and the most breathtaking view out to sea. From certain angles, it was as if we were on a ship in the ocean. Breakfast was very good and...

We travelled off-season by choice to discover this historical area. We were overwhelmed by the graciousness of the staff, their kind reception, the room, and, most surprisingly, the food. Everyone on staff spoke excellent English, and made sure our every need was covered. I had read other, and not favorable, reviews of this hotel, but I believe management has taken...

A great hotel in a truly dramatic setting, just a short walk (or run) from the main part of the town and at the start of a truly spectacular running experience. I visited recently and the weather was quite terrible. Wild winds and waves lashing the hotel and the shore line. That said, when there were breaks, the running path...

Was here sometime last August (but tripadvisor wont let me back date that far) It's a beautiful posh boutique hotel - room service was absolutely lovely. The view was breath taking. It was a bit far away from anywhere - mebe a 20 min walk from Cascais center. The actual hotel is lush lush lush our room was one of...

Enjoyed 3 nights at the Farol, considered style throughout with a monochrome theme. Staff were engaging and friendly- certainly an asset. We were there for a wedding and were blessed by good weather which allowed us to enjoy hanging out be the pool in October. Restaurant was excellent - both in its standard menu and in providing catering for the...

Upon arrival I was allocated room 306 in the old part of the hotel. As the photo demonstrates due to the design of the hotel a joist cuts right through the centre of the room which was not only off putting but dangerous in the dark. If you are staying in this property I suggest requesting a room in the...

Stay in this hotel! If you think you cannot afford it, borrow the money and stay in this hotel,! It will be worth it! Read the other reviews for location, facilities and whatever, all excellent. For us, the staff really made the stay so wonderful and the weather contributed to heavenliness of the place.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Planted on the edge of the rocks that rise out of the ocean, Farol Hotel is set in a mansion dating back to 1890, formerly owned by the Count of Cabral. In 2002 an extension was built, creating a superb innovative interface between the 19th century original building and the daring new contemporary structure extending over the rocks and offering superb views of the Atlantic and most picturesque sunsets. Unique in concept, the designer rooms originated from an invitation to select top Portuguese fashion designers to "dress a room." ... more   less
