Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There was a large group of us that stayed at the house this past weekend for our friends hen party... and in every sense it was perfect! From the minute i had booked the trip i had been in contact with Francisco, who was fantastic! I always had questions and queries for him and he always replied quickly and always so helpful. When we arrived at the house i met with Anna, a lady that worked there, and also spoke with Francisco who told me about the layout of the house etc.. he was extremely helpful and gave us recommendations for food that night which was brilliant! (Check out the market which is a 10 min walk from the house).. excellent food, lots of choice! The house itself was amazing... all of the rooms had their own bathrooms. And everybody got given towels. The terrace was incredible.. we spent most of our time there, lapping up the sun and making most of the large space and amazing views! We will definitely be back in future :)

Nice location and accommodations, and the host, Francisco was very pleasant and helpful. They have a lovely open terrace overlooking the city where you eat a nicely prepared breakfast. My only suggestion is to ban smoking on the terrace during the breakfast hours. It's not asking too much to start a fresh new day by enjoying breakfast in a pleasant outdoor setting, and not having to breathe in second-hand smoke from chain-smokers puffing away thoughtlessly, stinking up the otherwise clean air every morning.

Response from fcpcc1, Owner at The House

Dear Paul F., Thank you for your review. It is always nice to know our guests had a good time! It was certainly nice knowing you and D.! You actually are touching on what I think is a very important subject, that of how to best manage the liberties of people that have different preferences. Unfortunately, and despite being almost an anti-smoking activist myself, I am completely against what you suggest. You see, it is my opinion that we are living in an age where it is becoming normal for people not to speak and discuss matters normally and directly with others; I find this sad and even dangerous as we are allowing governments and platforms to do this for us instead. This has seriously negative consequences. Here at TheHOUSE we fully support human interaction (that is why, for instance, we don't have TV's), the whole concept came from this idea. I expect my guests to actually properly talk to one another and be able to sort out, for themselves, small matters like the one you bring up. I am quite sure that in 99 out of 100 times, if one asks kindly for someone not to smoke whilst one finishes breakfast, this will be accepted without any problem. And I am willing to risk the one time where it might not be like this to make sure that, here at TheHOUSE at least, we still live as people that know how to interact with strangers normally. I wish both all the best, Francisco

My husband and I had four days in Lisbon en route to a wedding in the Algarve. The House was recommended by family members who had stayed there in 2013 and we loved it too. We were in one of the newer rooms on the 3rd floor (the original rooms are on 4th floor of the building). Not fancy but spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with fresh orange juice, eggs however you want them, meats, cheeses, different breads and preserves. And really good coffee! The roof terrace is spectacular and it was still warm enough to have breakfast there in the sunshine .... glorious. Francesco and Sonia couldn’t have been more helpful providing maps and invaluable advice on travel and sights. It was great to be a short tram/bus ride from the centre but away from the main tourist areas. Within 10 min walk from The House we found super neighbourhood restaurants, cafes and bakeries. So do stay here and have a good look round ..... it’s great!

The House is a wonderful B&B. I first stayed in the The House in 2013 as a solo traveller and had such a lovely experience that I brought my mother and best friend back in 2018. One of the highlights is the rooftop sunroom where we enjoyed sunrises and breakfast each day. The location of the B&B is ideal; beside the Basilica (and Jardin) de Estrela and along the Tram 28 route for easy access to the city centre. One day we found ourselves wandering through some funky and cool neighborhoods (Alcântara & the LX Factory) and walked our way to Belem. I highly recommend The House and hope that I find my way there again.

Lovely B&B in the city centre. We were a big group and the staff often went out of their way to help us. The rooms are nicely decorated and the breakfast was very tasty. The real draw to this accommodation is the beautiful rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the city.

I chose this hotel for a quick, overnight stay for a business trip. Francisco and Sonia are wonderful and the hotel is more like a home. Lovely terraces, with views of the water. It's not fancy, but clean and correct. The rooftop terrace is not to be missed! I plan to come back - if they have room for me! (This is a very popular place.)

When first shown the views from the rooftop you are immediately in awe. It’s as good as any view we saw in the city. Francisco (owner) was wonderful. He went through the map with us and showed us what to see. we walked all day the first day, clicking up 10 miles and got the 24 hour bus/tram pass on day 2. Breakfast at the hotel was excellent, with freshly squeezed orange juice, fruit salad, eggs of choice, cheeses, meats and much more. I would recommend the hotel strongly. Thanks Francesco ! My mum and her two friends, all in their 70s, spent a few days at The House Laat September. They thought the hotel was fantastic but it wasn’t until something went wrong that we realised how good the staff actually were. My mum knocked over an expensive vase (€3000) in a local shop. The shop owner was not helpful at all, threatening to call the police and demanding passports. João from The House came to the shop immediately to help my mum and her friends. He even provided a statement and further information so that I could advise my insurance company and put my mum’s mind at ease. He stayed in touch for week after to make sure Eve was OK. João is like having somebody from your family in Lisbon with you! More than just somewhere to stay!

Very nice stay at The House. The owner, location, and terrace all make this a very nice place to stay. Francesco goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable and provide hints and tips. The location is in Estrella, to the NW of the downtown. Within walking distance (if you're fit, there are a lot of hills) or easy to take the historic #21 tram at 3 euros each way. The terrace has a great view of the whole city and river. Great place to hang out, have a drink. The included breakfast was very good: eggs made to order, different breads, fresh fruit, yogurt, good coffee and juice. My single room, while small and a European shower (if you are big, it's going to be a problem), was adequate. There is a common room to read, hang out, as well as the terrace. Would recommend and return.
