With its small garden and the top floor library overlooking the river, this 18th-century mansion transmits a romantic and welcoming feeling. The neighborhood of Lapa retains much of its traditional character and is not so crowded and touristic as other adjacent quarters like Bairro Alto and Chiado.

What a find! Beautiful property with loads of charm! Excellent amenities that - complimentary in-room port wine, a lovely library and roof top area with an honor bar system, everything felt like you were in a private home! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a nice variety each morning and they even had gluten-free options on request. I was glad we stayed in this neighborhood, away from the busy, noisy central areas. Very easy walk to great restaurants and main attractions were a quick and very affordable Uber ride away. I won't hesitate to recommend this property to friends! Wish we had more than our two nights there!

Dear Guest, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We're thrilled to hear that you had a wonderful stay at our historic inn and that you felt like in a private home. We are also very proud to read that you appreciated our friendly and helpful staff, which is our most important asset. As for our location, As Janelas Verdes is nestled in the charming Lapa neighborhood, known for its rich history and a predominantly local population. It offers a quieter atmosphere compared to the more bustling and touristy historic districts. As you mention, it's still conveniently located for a leisurely stroll to explore the local culture. It is a flat area along the river Tagus and you may use the old Bica funicular, near Time Out Market, to reach Chiado and Bairro Alto, through one of the most picturesque streets of Lisbon which is Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo. We look forward to welcoming you again to our lovely city. Kind regards, Diogo Laranjo General Manager

All of the staff were very pleasant and helpful, from the reception, to the breakfast waitress to the maintenance man.
My room was on the 1st floor and we requested a room at the back of the hotel due to the noise of the cars on the cobbled street outside the hotel.
Library and balcony with views over the bay on the 3rd floor.

No complementary bottles of water in the room. A daily necessity for tourists during the hot months. A small bottle of water costs only a few cents and the lack of it is a serious failing. When I raised the matter with the reception I was told I could take 2 bottles for free, which are normally paid for, from drinks table near the lounge.
The WiFi was very poor and my wife had I frequntly could not open web pages on our computers.

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for staying with us and for your feedback. We are happy to read that you enjoyed your stay, in particular our friendly staff and the view over the bay from our library terrace. Regarding the WiFi in your room, we are very sorry for the issue you had during your stay. We perform regular audits on the signal and connectivity on our free WiFi system and as a result of your experience we will recheck and ensure corrective action is taken immediately. In the event of a problem with the WiFi in a room, we have an independent system dedicated exclusively to the public areas in order to guarantee permanent internet access to our Guests. In fact complimentary bottles of water are not available in the room, but we offer a free decanter of Port wine in every room and there are two permanent honesty bars, one in the library and another on the patio path, where you can choose any drink. Concerning noise of the cars, every room has double glazed windows to prevent disturbing noise from the outside. We look forward to welcoming you back to our beautiful city and having the opportunity to provide you with a most pleasant stay. Kindest regards, Diogo Laranjo General Manager

This hotel is converted from an old mansion in a quiet neighbourhood of Lisbon, between the French Embassy and the MNAA Art Museum. It has been restored and fitted to a high standard. A nice touch is the free coffee, tea and cakes and honesty bar all day in the garden room where you have breakfast or in the library on the top (3rd) floor with great views over the Tagus. You are a short walk from the bars and restaurants of Bairro Alto and a bit further to Praça do Comercio and Alfama; if you prefer not to walk there are bus and tram stops nearby. Buses, trams and trains to the centre or to Belém or Cascais are also close. For the quality on offer it is very reasonably priced.

The staff was absolutely amazing and spoke perfect English. The breakfast is simple, but just enough. We were offered a complimentary breakfast because we came early the first day. We got all the answers we needed from the reception on all visits and tours we wished to make. Complimentary tea and coffee, as well as cookies, available in the Library on the third floor, are a good bonus. Check out the view from the Library balcony, it is amazing. The interior of the hotel is pretty cozy and romantic. If I needed to criticize something, it would be the hotel location which is in the middle of everything, but not in the walking distance of anything. Uber was our best friend. It is not expensive, nor are the taxis (by Swiss standards anyways/Switzerland is my home country), so this wasn’t a problem. Overall, it was a lovely experience and we really enjoyed ourselves (2 adults from Russia and 2 adults from Switzerland).

Dear Tatiana, Thank you for staying with us and for your comments. We are glad that you enjoyed our Inn, particularly our friendly staff and the free added values. As Janelas Verdes is located in the neighborhood of Lapa, an historic district that retains much of its traditional charm. Our location in reality is far enough from the very touristic quarters but near enough to be able to walk there, enjoying the local flair on the way. It is a flat area along the river Tagus and you may use the old Bica funicular, near Mercado da Ribeira (Time Out Market), to reach Chiado and Bairro Alto, through one of the most picturesque streets of Lisbon which is Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo. Spent the first three nights here on our first trip to Portugal. Great service, great boutique hotel in a very central location. within walking distance of the city centre and a tram a block away. It has a sunny garden courtyard in the back, where we ate breakfast every day, which was included. The room was quiet, nicely decorated, quite large, and had two windows that opened onto the street. On the third floor is an outside balcony that overlooks the river and nearby bridge - you can have coffee, snacks and drinks here at any time; they use an honor system to mark down what you take and it gets added to your final hotel bill. We really loved this place - it was a perfect spot to start our trip and adjust to jet lag from the flight from Vancouver, Canada (via Paris).

My husband booked this hotel in Lisbon as a 5 day break for my 60th Birthday and what a find, The staff were friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The room had been upgraded to a suite and was nice and spacious, with a lovely huge comfy bed. The breakfast choice was amazing with a great choice of fresh produce and hot dishes.
As a surprise Geoff had arranged a Birthday Cake with Portuguese Sparkling wine (Champagne) and balloons, the staff had laid it all out for us in the Library and sang Happy Birthday a lovely touch.
The balcony outside the library was a lovely sun trap with good views of the river, there was also a lovely courtyard which we had breakfast at one morning, a little chilly in early March for breakfast but in the afternoon a lovely spot for a drink with complimentary cookies. They also had a honesty bar which was really handy, with a good variety of beverages and snacks.
Our whole stay here at the 'As Jenelas Verdes' was really great a 2 minute stroll to the tram and bus stop with easy access to the centre.
We would highly recommend this hotel and would stay again if ever returning to Lisbon.
Many thanks to all the staff for such a lovely stay.

We spent 4 nights in this beautiful reasonably priced hotel. The staff was so friendly, flexible and welcoming. The room was immaculately laid out and stylishly decorated. So many small touches made our stay memorable. In particular we enjoyed the candles on the rooftop balcony which were lit up at night, the view, the relaxing courtyard where we had a delicious breakfast, and the comfortable bed. The location is fantastic and even though the hotel is on a busy street, the insolation almost cut out the noise completely. Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Lisbon.

The remarkable thing about this hotel is that it doesn't feel like a hotel but it feels more like an upmarket private residence. Sitting in their big sitting room on the third floor with its beautiful furniture, pictures and books makes one feel very special. There are drinks on the side and you serve yourself recording what you have taken with your room number. The rooms are a delight and we were particularly impressed by the small decanter port on the sideboard that was put there for our enjoyment. You tend not to see staff but the people on reception proved to be incredibly helpful whenever we needed information . A map seem to be magically produced which helped us on our way. We were in this hotel five days and as a result of our experience I would thoroughly recommend it .

I'll try not to bias my review of this hotel too much, as I was absolutely really wowed by the city and the people in Lisbon. On arrival, we were upgraded through the hotels.com gold membership to a better room, and given a number of other complimentary bonuses which were very gratefully received. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff, and although we didn't actually have anything other than breakfast at the hotel, the food was good - nothing amazing, though the cooked stuff looked good, but I'm not big on breakfast anyway so I can't really say too much about that.

I really liked the honesty bar system - it was actually quite nice to just be left to our own devices in the stunning library and to sit out and look out onto the beautiful view. It felt very homely.

The room was perfect - the bed was possibly the comfiest hotel bed I've had, and the stunning bathroom was a particular highlight for my partner and I. It was also very quiet and the blackout blinds were great.

Location wise, it was perfect for us. It was a short and pleasant 20 minute walk into the centre of town, and there were some nice places to eat or have a drink nearby.

I'd definitely stay here again.

This is a lovely little stay away from the immediate busy areas but within walking distance to many sites of interest such as the art museum next door (free entry with the hotel pass!) and lots of cafes / restaurants a bit down the street.

The library terrace was great, offering an extremely nice view of the water and well-decorated and pleasant ambiance. There is an open bar to sign out drinks and free water and small pastries (yes, including pasteis de nata) available pretty much all day after breakfast. The breakfast spread in the outside garden was a nice way to start the day and was tasty and well-stocked. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

I would definitely recommend the Clube de Jornalistas - which was about a 10 minute walk from the As Janelas Verdes - up a hill!! Its a little difficult to find as not well signed and below street level, but well worth it and where the locals go.

There is a very small garage underneath the hotel. Make sure your car is also very small - and that you are very careful entering and leaving the garage! I badly scraped the fender of the rental car exiting and had to pay big bucks to the rental car company...:(. Be sure to call ahead of time to see if there is space available. It is a small property... I liked the hotel very much, by the way, even if the garage is small

Hi They arranged a taxi that cost 90 euros return. There were 4 of us so we split it. Depending on what luggage you have there are buses that take you to the main train terminus, and it's then about a twenty minute walk, not recommended if you've got cases. There is a little bit uphill.
