Ok, so first of all, the Keep is not the kind of place I would normally pick. But after reading about it on a travel blog I decided to book it because of: 1. the location (right by the castle; 2. the price (£65 for 2 nights b&b with private bathroom for 2 people); 3. The view. The location, the...

About the cold first, after mentioning it to the owner, he immediately brought me a small space heater which worked surprisingly well for a large room with such a high ceiling. However, the extensive and numerous patches of mold in the bedroom and bathroom (see pics) which I did not mention to the owner since nothing can be done without...

The location of The Keep is the main quality of this charming hostel. Close to the city center and with a marvellous view over the city (not over the river though). Nice view from the room and breathtaking from the front terrasse. Two small towers make very charming places to sit with a cup of coffee or a beer. No...

Me and my friend stayed in The Keep for 3nights and we'd recommend this place. You get what you pay for. It's cheap place to stay with an amazing view, great location, friendly stuff. You can enjoy a breakfast out on the terrace. Refilling of breakfast was quite sow but al right. You share a bathroom as a description says...

I was booked into this hotel by my business colleague while I looked for more permanent accommodation in Lisbon. He chose this place for its position next to the Castle (right next to the castle, not just near it). Having stayed in some of the very best hotels in the world The Keep was a bit of a surprise. It...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
